A huge spirit of Celestial energy poured from the body of the Devil Emperor and into Jin.
Everyone watched in amazement as Jin was lifted into the air and hovered as this vast power poured into him and he shined as bright as a star.
When the last of the energy entered him, he landed back on the ground. His blue glow had turned to a royal purple and become brighter and so his eyes changed from blue to purple as well, the power coming from him was felt by all.
He could feel it and so could Shadow, Jin had finally maxed out his Celestial Energy and ascended to Godhood.
Jin pulled the God of Knowledge’s Notebook from his pocket and checked the new entry, Shadow read it over his shoulder.
Power of Calamity
Through countless trials and rebirth, you have been guided by the Gods and fought to absorb the power of great beings. Your strength is limitless and ever-growing, there are none you can’t conquer. All who face you are met with Calamity. Your power is that of the Devils and Gods, you are a hybrid of all those you have absorbed.
You are a master of all magic, even that of the Celestial. Atomic and Lightning Magic are your strongest tools.
All weapons of magic you create will be imbued with the highest levels of Celestial Power.
All your previous blessings and powers have become ingrained in you and made permanent.
You can absorb power from Artifacts.
You are a new form of higher being that can stand with the Gods and have potential to climb above even the Higher Beings.
You now can create a Domain of your choosing to boost your affinity with that Magical Element.
Your powers of Destruction prevent you from blessing others and creating your own realm. You are a being meant to bring an end, not a beginning. Thus, Artifacts of War and Devils are all you may create.
“All that’s awesome, but that last part sounds more bad than good, right?” Jin looked at Shadow who had a growing look of concern on his face. “Seriously, what’s up with you?”
“Remember how I told you that Grim only wanted 2 things from me.” Shadow wondered what he was supposed to do and if Grim knew that Jin would become this, Calamity.
Jin tried to remember, but he was pretty tired that day, so the details were fuzzy. “Becoming the new God of the Void and killing some bad guy who would kill Death, why?”
“Grim said he wanted me to stop Calamity, those were his exact words.” Shadow pointed at the book.
Jin was confused. “Me? Why, I have no plans on killing him. I just want to take put the Incarnates and spend the rest of my days with my family.”
Shadow was silent.
Jin tried to comfort his distraught friend. “Look, we’ll just go back to Grim and clear up the confusion. Okay?”
Shadow nodded. “Alright, that sounds like a good idea because as scary as Grim was, I’m not going to kill you over some vague prophecy.”
Jin laughed and slapped Shadow on the back. “Yeah right, I’d whoop your ass if you tried.”
Shadow chuckled. “Let’s find out who’s stronger then after we rest for a bit, we never did get around to that duel.”
Jin smiled and lightning sparked from his eyes. “You're on.”
Horn flew and landed at Jin’s feet. “Holy shit! You’re still alive?” Jin motioned for Horn to stand and held out the weapon that Jin gave him, the Celestial Hellfire sword was drained of energy and nothing more than a charred stick.
Horn had a look of sadness. “Yes, your Lordship, but I broke the gift you gave me in this battle. Please forgive me.”
Shadow still held a strong hatred for Devils of all kinds, so watching them act like people towards Jin made him feel disgusted. But he continued to hold his tongue until they beat the Incarnates.
Jin was the opposite; he saw the Devils as beings that were used as pawns in the Devil Emperor’s war with the Gods. Most had been normal beings, but after being slain they had their spirits twisted and disfigured by the Devil Emperor and made to kill innocents.
“You’re good, Horn. After assembling all these Devils and recruiting them to fight on our side, I think you deserve a prize much greater than that.” Jin walked over to the bodies of couple Devils killed in the battle. He decided this was a great opportunity to see how strong of artifacts he could create now and as a way to reward Horn for his loyalty.
Jin no longer had to rely on the blessings of the other Gods after his Ascension, all these powers had now become his own. So, he focused on warping the materials from the bodies of the Devils and infusing some of his own magic. The end result was much greater than he expected, although he felt significantly drained of energy after creating 2 Celestial Artifacts. The first was a robe of pure purple flames, but it was cool to the touch, and the second was an ivory staff with a holy glow.
Robe of Chilled Hellfire
A Celestial Item that now amplifies the wearers Fire magic by 3x and imbues it with a minor amount of Celestial Energy.
*Can only be worn by those acting on behalf of Calamity
Staff of Golden Shock
A Legendary Item that allows the user to emit a Shockwave once an hour that will paralyze hostile enemies for 30 seconds within a 1-mile radius.
Jin handed off the items to Horn and he equipped them with pride.
Horn turned to the rest of the Covenant and raised the staff, they all clapped and cheered while Horn was showboating with his new items given by their new divine leader.
Jin watched and laughed, then Shadow began to mass summon Fallen from the Devils who died in the battle. Although some of the Devils Spirits were too twisted to be remade into Fallen.
Shadow recalled his Fallen back to the Void and Jin looked at his thousands of Devil soldiers and wondered what he should do with them. He knew it’d be too inconvenient to move with them all, especially when they go back to civilization and his new powers didn’t let him create a realm.
Jin also didn’t want to send them back to the Devil Realm until he had a chance to clear it of what remained of the Devil Emperor’s followers. That’s when he had an idea of someone who might be willing to help.
But before he was able to come up with a solid plan or ask Shadow for advice, Jin noticed a strange creature in the sky.
“Hey Shadow, do you see that?”
Shadow squinted and looked up; it took a second but he finally saw the small black figure way up in the sky. “Yeah, what is it?”
Then an even smaller black figure departed from the larger silhouette and was dropping towards them at an alarming rate.
Jin and Shadow stared up at the figure. Then they both got a similar feeling of dread.
“Horn use the staff!” Jin shouted and then prepared a portal large enough to teleport the Devils along with Shadow.
Horn used the staff and the figures in the sky became covered in a yellow outline.

The figures descent slowed dramatically and gave Jin enough time to pour in enough energy into the ground and open up a large glowing purple portal that encompassed the entirety of the Devil army.
They all fell in and so did Shadow, but Jin summoned his wings and kept himself from falling with them.
“Jin! What are you doing?” Shadow shouted, but Jin just remained silently staring up at the sky.
Then the portal closed, and he was in a familiar place, but for the army of Devils this place was unlike any they’d ever seen.
Shadow looked at the glowing fruit on the trees in front of him and then at the Devils filling this sacred place of the Gods.
‘Why the Hell did Jin send us to the Celestial Realm of all places?!’
Horn flew to Shadow and bowed. “Master Shadow, may I ask where we are and why Lord Jin did not join us?”
Shadow rubbed his eyes; this day was just getting longer and more complicated with every second. “I can answer that first question, but I have no idea why he sent us here or what he’s planning on doing back there.”
Horn and the other Devils looked around in amazement, they were hesitant to touch anything and were acting like everything in this world was made of glass or a museum filled with priceless artifacts. This surprised Shadow, he thought the Devils would start pillaging and destroying everything, but they were acting so civilized and docile.
“I humbly request to ask 1 more question, Master Shadow.” Horn continued bowing.
Shadow sighed; he got that Horn was trying to be respectful, but it was starting to seem overboard. “Just ask a question if you have one.”
Horn raised his head. “I correctly sensed those where the Incarnated Gods back there, so why did our Lord send us away instead of fighting with him?”
Shadow’s eyes got wide. ‘How’d this Devil sense those were the Incarnates and I missed that?!’
“Dammit!” Shadow exclaimed and focused on opening a portal back to Earth.
“What is wrong, Master Shadow did I do something to upset you?”
Shadow furled his brow; he still hadn’t quit gotten a hold of locating people’s energy and opening a portal across realms so this might take longer than he expected. “No Horn, it’s Jin. As soon as he sensed King, he probably lost all his reasoning to his emotions and wanted to kill King on his own without anyone interfering. Which is stupid, because if King is there, then so are the other Incarnates and no doubt they’ve figured out to kill him in a way, so he won’t come back again!”
Shadow desperately searched for Jin’s energy, he caught a faint sense and started to follow it.
“There!” Shadow began to open a portal. ‘I just hope I’m not too late.’
Before he could enter, the portal was forced shut.
‘What the Hell?’
The God of War appeared in the sky above them.
“Who dares bring these abominations into our Holy Realm?”
The God of War looks over the Devils and sees Shadow.
“Champion, actually Brother would be the proper way to greet you now. It seems that the power of the Void has been inherited by you. Why have you brought these monstrosities here?”
Shadow looks up at the God with defiance. “I didn’t, Jin did. Why have you stopped me from leaving?”
“I stopped you so I could obtain answers, all the Gods have sensed a great change in the power throughout the realms. Before seeing it was you, I closed off this realm from others until I could conduct a proper interrogation of the trespassers.”
“Well now that you know it’s me, can I leave? Jin is currently fighting the Incarnates by himself!” Shadow was desperate to get back, but the God of War didn’t seem to care.
“Soon, first answer my questions. Why are the Devils here and what happened in your battle with the Devil Emperor? There was a great surge throughout the fabric of reality, even the Creator felt it.”
‘The Creator?’ Shadow figured this must be another of the higher beings he’d heard of, he had seen the name before in the notebook too. “The Devil Emperor is dead, and Jin ascended. Then the Devils started to worship Jin after we killed the Devil Emperor.”
“That is good news! What form of God has he become and when will you dispatch of the Devils that remain?”
The Devils were all starting to get antsy from the Celestial words, some even placing their hands over the hills of their weapons.
“Jin is called Calamity now.” Shadow replied.
“WHAT?!” The world shook as the Celestial shouted in surprise. “If he has become the Calamity, then he now poses a bigger threat than the Devil Emperor and must be eliminated!”
Shadow was taken back by this since Jin was one of the God’s Champions. “Why, what’s so bad about this power? Even Grim has said I must stop Calamity!”
The Devils began to roar and yell. “You will not harm our Lord!” They readied their weapons to fight the God.
The God lowered from the sky and shrunk down to a smaller form beside Shadow. He blasted a power from his hand and knocked all the Devils away from their location and then placed a large red shield around Shadow and himself.
The Devils pounded and struck the red bubble, but it had no effect.
“Disgusting creatures.” The God then turned his attention to Shadow. “I shall explain the legend of Calamity to you, so you may understand the severity of the situation. Calamity has the ability to destroy not just living beings and even Gods, but the power to wipe realms from the universe and kill the higher beings.”
Shadow shook his head. “Okay, but Jin would never do that! He just wants to stop the Incarnates and get back to his family.”
“That may be the situation now, but the Calamity is immortal like all Celestials. One day the life he knows will be a memory and a Calamity exists only to destroy. When he no longer has his loves ones, he will only have a hunger to grow stronger and he will rampage through the realms until nothing remains.”
“No, even if a million years passed then Jin would still never resort to mindlessly killing innocents!”
The God waived his hand in the air and projected a vision of the past. There was a group of heroes and 4 Celestials engaged in a fight across a decayed landscape.
“This is a time long ago, while I was a Champion of the higher beings with the other original Gods. The higher beings granted us Celestial Power to fight the first Calamity of creation.”
Shadow looked at the beings in the vision, it was through the eyes of the God at the time. There was an old Mage and a young Elf Arcanist, the original God of Knowledge and Magic. Behind him were 2 blurry figures that were the higher beings, Jin recognized the black robe and figured that was Grim, but he couldn’t make out the details of the others due to the flashing from the powers.
The God of War wielded to large golden Celestial battle axes in each hand and his attention was towards the original Calamity who was fighting off the attacks of the others and black magic bolts from a man in dark tattered robes like Shadow wore, he was the old God of the Void.
The Calamity was a giant with 6 arms and 2 legs, he had glowing red tattoos across his body and a long wild mane of white hair. His 4 eyes glowed a bright purple and all his teeth were sharp as daggers. His face was a mix of rage and joy from the battle, he laughed as he fought off his attackers. But it was clear the battle had been going on for a while.
The Calamity then snatched up one of the warriors from the battlefield and crushed him in his hand and then sucked out his soul.
The Calamity was cut and burned, and all the old Gods looked drained, the old God of the Void dashed behind the Calamity and severed his Achilles tendons with a large black scythe of Void energy.
Then the God of War left toward the head of the Calamity and severed its head.
As the Calamity fell, Shadow saw the mounds of bodies piled throughout the battlefield, all were different species in different battle gear.
The God of War then waived away the vision of the past.
“That was our battle, it was hard fought, and we barely won with the help of the Higher Beings after they lent us Celestial powers when we proved ourselves above our comrades that day. After our victory the Higher beings gifted us more power and we ascended to becoming Gods. Our victory did not come soon enough though, the Calamity had wiped out 2 realms and only after pulling millions of warriors from all the realms did we stop him and so few survived.”
Shadow didn’t know what to think, he understood how terrifying a power Jin now had. But he wasn’t some evil monster. “I’m sorry that you had to go through that, but Jin isn’t a monster like that thing.”
The God of War laughed. “The Calamity wasn’t always that way, he was once the shining star known across all realms. He was the first Blessed Champion of the Higher beings. He was a Hero that stopped the tyranny in the Realm of the Asura. But after centuries of fighting evil across the universe, he was no longer fighting for good, he was fighting to obtain more power.”
The God then showed Shadow a vision of the Calamity during that time. He was only 7 feet tall, and his eyes were dark blue. There was no evil energy coming from him as he was guiding a group of Dwarven warriors in a sword fighting lesson. The Calamity’s smile wasn’t a vicious one, but it had the same kindness that Shadow had seen in Jin whenever they talked to people after saving them from Devils.
Shadow couldn’t help but note the similarity between Jin and the original Calamity. “I understand your fear, but I won’t turn my back on Jin.”
The God felt defeated. “Fine but understand that the longer you wait to put a stop to Calamity the stronger it will grow. Now it is still in its infancy, if I must stop him myself I will.”
Shadow glared at the God. “If you fight him, then you will have to fight me as well.”
Red lightning shot from the sky followed by the echo of thunder. “Heed my warning, Brother. Calamity has no loyalty; he will betray you and you will rethink those words.”
“We’ll see about that.”
The God flew back to the sky and returned to his original size. “I will take my leave and seek out the other Gods, then we will come for Calamity. I have unsealed this realm, leave and take these abominations with you.”
The God faded from the sky and the Devils all cursed at him while shooting magic and arrows up at the sky.
Shadow reopened the portal back to Earth and Horn flew beside him. “Master Shadow do not believe that pathetic excuse for a God. Our Lord would never do such things, he is a benevolent man.”
For once Shadow wasn’t disgusted or annoyed by the Devil, he actually took some comfort in his words. If a Devil could see the good in Jin, why couldn’t the Gods?
“I agree, but it seems our fight is long from over. Let’s get back to Jin and pray we’re not too late.”
Shadow stepped through the portal and all the Devils flooded in behind him.
