23. Dancing

23. Dancing

We didn’t talk much on the way back. When we got there we grabbed our gear and headed to the tower. I also grabbed my guitar for reasons that will become obvious. We got to the tower by 1 and headed up to floor 2.

Tyler looks at my guitar for the hundredth time as we enter the 2nd floor. Before he can speak I start to talk. “I’ve decided to take your advice on laying low. In order to do that I’m going to fake being a bard,” I hold up the guitar, “Because I’m the greatest spell crafter ever I can probably even make bardic spells, aka magic songs.”

“I’m also going to show you have to dodge properly,” I say.

“What does that mean?” Tyler asks.

“I’m going to practice playing songs while dodging the goblins obviously.”

“This is just to show me how much farther I have to go, right?”

“Yep,” I say before tuning my guitar. Once it’s all tuned I beacon Tyler and we go find our first victim. After we found it I started to play.

“To the town of Agua Fria rode a stranger one fine day.”

Tyler groans in the background as the goblin fails to stab me with the new floor 2 feature, a knife.

“Hardly spoke to folks around him, didn't have too much to say.”

I was having a hard, but manageable, time both dodging the goblin and vibrating the ambient magic to match the song I was playing. That was how bards cast spells, by vibrating ambient magic.

“No one dared to ask his business, no one dared to make a slip.”

Tyler watched my feet and body posture as I avoided the now three goblins. He tried to mimic my moves with varying success.

“For the stranger there among them had a big iron on his hip.”

For my part, the song had yet to give any buff at all. I was trying to give the quick hands buff, but failing at getting the mana to vibrate right.

“Big iron on his hip.”

I felt something right but it was quickly gone.

“It was early in the morning when he rode into the town.”

Tyler was somehow getting some foot placements right.

“He came riding from the south side slowly lookin' all around.”

Then I felt it, the vibration that twisted the mana in the most sacrilegious way. They twist the mana into a spell. I felt the buff take hold of me and I moved that much faster.

“He's an outlaw loose and running, came the whisper from each lip.”

I started to include kicks into my dance as there were now five goblins. Wow, bards had it rough.

“And he's here to do some business with the big iron on his hip.”

A kick snapped the neck of one of the goblins, then a boot slam into the chest of another.

“Big iron on his hip.”

I moved down the tunnel and kept picking up and putting down goblins. Tyler is getting scarily good at dodging. I’m getting the ability to vibrate mana down pat and the goblins are not have a very good day as Tyler starts to join me, only killing goblins with his feet.

After two-ish minutes the song is over and I get my first bardic skill and a title.
