18. Awakening

18. Awakening

The worst part about making spells is the next morning. An ugh claws its way out of my mouth, I'm never going to make five spells in one night ever again. Grabbing my phone and turning it on before I realized my mistake. “Oh dear god, that’s bright,” escapes my lips as the phone turns on. After a couple of seconds, I can see again and check the time. 11 am, three hours past when we were supposed to leave.

Getting up I grab some clothes and throw them on. I head to the bathroom, spotting Tyler in the hallway. He looks at me expectantly. Glowering at him I say “On the desk”. Tyler, getting really happy, rushes into the guest room. I hear him get to the desk and then he sees that is not a spell page but a spell formula. “AAHH, Zain this is exactly what I was afraid of, SPELL FORM!”

Laughing my best evil curser laugh, I head into the bathroom to get ready for the day. After a nice long shower to wake me up, I head to the guest room and see Tyler slouching in the desk chair. “I can’t do this man. It’s not possible,” Tyler says defeated.

“Come on, all you have to do is force your mana into the spell formula. Let me show you, watch carefully,” I say smiling. I start to move my mana super slowly when Tyler looks up at me. I move my mana through the pattern required to cast the spell, making sure not to. Can’t have another mistake like last time I tried to help someone with a spell and gained it by accident.

It took most of the day for Tyler to get the first, then an hour to get the second. It was easy once he got used to the feeling of moving mana. Overall I was surprised by how short it took.

Tyler head to bed soon after. I don’t blame him, spellcraft is hard and extremely exhausting. Not having much to do and definitely not making a spell, I headed to bed.

The next day we headed to the tower. At the entrance, Tyler turns to me, “So, are we going to do the whole ‘you have to do it by yourself’ thing.”

“Yup,” I say with a smile. “Don’t worry I’ll help you if you need it. I’m not going to let you die.”

“I hope you're right,” Tyler says somberly. “If this works out I’m going to get super drunk to celebrate, and you’re going to join me.”

Laughing I agreed and Tyler activated his new spells, with a mana pool of 80 this worked out very well. After waiting to get used to his new reaction time, Tyler fights a goblin. It was a wash, it did even get to try and get a hit in. Tyler repeats this a couple of times before deciding to fight a hobgoblin.

Tyler approaches carefully getting ready to fight. The hobgoblin notices him and turns to fully face him. Tyler lets out a battle cry and charges, and the hobgoblin mirrors him. The hobgoblin throws a punch which Tyler blocks with his shield. Tyler staggers a little before slashing into the hobgoblin’s side scoring a blow. The fight continues like this with both sides getting worn down but Tyler holding the lead. Before long the hobgoblin overextended and Tyler, twisting his whole body, lops off its head.

Putting his hands on his knees panting, Tylers smiles then laughs. “This is what I need.”
