-The Stargate-

It is dark around you and your vision is smothered by the darkness. You feel the wind blowing around your shoulders, and you want to open your eyes, but you are not yet authorized to do so. You feel panic rising inside you and toy with the idea of leaving. A stranger gently strokes the back of your hand with a cold hand and hums a song, causing your breathing to calm down instantly.

"My name is Alwina," breathes a gentle, almost fearful voice, "I and the whole kingdom need your help, child of the moon." You flinch and the calm inside you shatters like broken glass.

"The moon star that keeps our whole world running has been broken and taken by the cruelest of creatures to several hiding places, never to be seen again."

The woman hesitates before continuing: "Do not be afraid, child of the moon, I know you will find the pieces and lead our realm to peace." You want to contradict the frail woman, but your mouth seems glued shut. You have so many questions, you want to know where these pieces can be found, why you of all people have been chosen. But you have to remain silent. "I know it will be an arduous and dangerous journey, but rest assured, you will save our country if you jump over your own shadow. Don't worry that you won't find your way around or that you'll starve. You will be given a backpack with food." Once again, you want to ask where you should get the backpack and what things you might need for this journey, but your mouth remains shut.

Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation.

"You will receive 10 coins to accompany you at the beginning of your journey. 2 fruits and 2 additional berries will also be stowed in your bags before you even remember where you are." The woman pauses, her unsteady breath seeming to pulse in the air. The voice hesitates, as if considering whether it was such a good idea to bring you here.

"You'll also have a flashlight and a thin sabre to call your own." She takes another breath, "But take good care of your utensils, the sabre can break, and the flashlight can go out. The rucksack also only has space for 20 items. Coins are not counted as part of your inventory and therefore do not take up any space. In each new section, you will be deducted 1 food item, which will eventually end up in your stomach. Trust only in your strengths, child of the moon. And save our country." With that, the voice falls silent for good and you are alone.

Only a few seconds pass before you feel a hard blow on your back. Startled, you open your eyes and sure enough, you can finally see sunlight. You are lying on the ground, and you quickly get up. Then you open your mouth to check whether it can do its job again. Sure enough, you are carrying a rucksack on your back and feel the blade of the sabre in it. For the first time, you look at your surroundings.

A high wall rises up in front of you, built entirely of stone. You step closer and your footsteps echo unusually in the air, but you don't pay much attention to the sound. You turn your gaze towards the gate, which cuts into the stone like a dull wound. You quickly look at the side to the left of the gate, but you can barely make out anything strange. A star is emblazoned on one of the stones, but this could be a coincidence. On the right-hand side of the gate, the wall looks just as bleak. Some unusually long stones protruding from the wall form a strange framework.

You quickly run towards the gate and see a moon shape at the top of the wall, next to it two shining stars, each with a round hole cut in it. But this doesn't interest you. Your footsteps sound strange, is there something wrong with your shoes?

Then you stop and walk closer to the gate. Just as you are about to go through the entrance, you bounce off an invisible wall. You try to get through again, but your wish is not granted. Somewhat perplexed, you clutch your head and then realize that the gate must be cursed.

There are three ways out in this situation, but will you make it to the other side?

- Would you like to investigate the left side of the wall and thus also the symbol of the star? Then go to section 2.

- Would you rather go to the right-hand side and take a closer look at the stones? Switch to section 3.

- Or do you turn your attention to your shoes and the floor, which is making strange noises? Go to section 4.
