Chapter Thirteen~3

“You cannot run from your destiny; it will forever be yours,” she said and smiled. Eisai smiled back at the old lady; he knew it was the last time he would see her. “Take care, son,” the old lady said and tapped on his right shoulder before walking away her body slowly fading through thin air.

Eisai took a deep breath, then put his right hand on his heart. Red sparks ran through his fingers. It went dead the moment he thought of his room, He took another deep breath before closing his eyes.

Warm sun rays hit his face. Eisai opened his eyes and smiled. He was back in his room. Eisai stood up and felt something in his pocket. He grabbed what was inside and smiled widely.

It was a couple of papyrus he took from Nebuaui’s time. He walked to the door and opened it at the same moment Jien was walking. “Good morning, Eisai,” Jien said with a big smile on his face. “Come on, you are late.”

“I do not think I will be late again,” Eisai said to himself and smiled. “Wait, I must tell you something first.” Eisai grabbed Jien’s forearm and pushed him inside his room, closing the door behind him. “It is an important matter.”

“Is something troubling you?”

“I am gifted with a responsibility that I must share with you,” Eisai said and looked around, searching for the right words. “I am gifted with the power of traveling through time and knowledge beyond our world.”

Jien seemed puzzled. Eisai was a few steps away from the door, but his body disappeared in the blink of an eye, Jien gasped and looked around. Eisai appeared in the middle of the room and said, “I need your help and guidance.”

“How did you do that?!” Jien said and closed the small distance between them. Powers wasn’t something odd in their kingdom, it was rare and a myth.

“I traveled to the past and met a man from a faraway land, his people have powers beyond our world, powers that could easily destroy us, he didn’t want me to use my power to change anything even fatal destines,” he said and held Jien’s shoulder. “I want to take control of my destiny.”

Jien felt the dreadful change in Eisai’s tone and reactions filled with greed and obsession. “What do you mean?”

“That nation has a powerful book that can change our kingdom… it has spells that could shape our future, give us power and control over our lives,” Eisai said and looked out of his windows. “They are way stronger than us… they control people like me, not giving them the chance to live their truth.” Jien was speechless. Eisai looked back at him and said, “I want you to help me get back there.”

“How should I know?” Jien said.

Eisai handed the book to him. Jien looked at them, confused. He had never seen such writing before. Eisai explained to him what it was and told him about the old lady and her warm herbs that helped him to travel to Nebuaui’s time before.

“How are you going back there again?” Eisai smiled at his old friend. Jien was curious about powers that appeared all over the world, hundreds of monks, from other kingdoms documented it.

Even though it had been hundreds of years since the last one was documented slowly people forgot that gifts and powers ever existed, and it became just a myth older people talk about.

“My powers connected to my emotions… I think of him, and I would be there.”

“What am I supposed to do, then?” Jien said.

“Search for those people in the temple books… we must know why they were never mentioned,” Eisai said and stepped away. “I will get the book and we will change the world together.” He closed his eyes, focusing on Nebuaui’s face. His body vanished in a second.
