Chapter 9 - Prey won't escape

Sniffing at the ground, Christine caught the scent of a rabbit. At least she thought it was the scent of a rabbit, after all she wasn’t very good at distinguishing between smells. She tried her best she could to track the rabbit through smell and sight but it took over a minute for her to even discover the direction she thought the rabbit went. Even though it would take time she started in the direction she thought the rabbit went in. After a full hour of slow tracking, Christine found a clearing with lots of clover that smelled strongly of rabbit. She decided to wait for rabbits to show up, suspecting that rabbits frequented this clearing to feed. Slipping under a bush with dense leaves covering it, she watched and waited.

After only ten minutes, which to Christine was a short amount of time for a hunt, she saw a horned rabbit hop into the clover. Christine waited a little while longer for the rabbit to hop a little closer to her and just as she was about to leap from the bush to kill it, a second rabbit hopped into the clover patch. As soon as both rabbit's heads were lowered to eat, Christine lept from her hiding spot. When she did so, both rabbits started to run but she used a sickle claw to dig into the closer rabbit’s body and kill it before it could go far. This attack used barely any time but that was enough for the second rabbit to get a head start on her. However, Christine had no intent of letting that small head start being of use to the rabbit. She quickly caught up to the rabbit and used her jaws to quickly kill it. Christine didn’t want the smell of the dead rabbits to scare off other rabbits, so she picked the two rabbits with her mouth and left the clover patch to eat somewhere else. She only traveled a short distance from the clearing before setting down the rabbits and beginning to eat.

After finishing the rabbits, Christine went looking for more meat to eat. Hours later she was still stalking through the woods rather ineffectively looking for something to hunt, as she was doing this she heard the sound of something running through the underbrush. She jerked her head to see a small herd of dog sized creatures running from her. They looked similar to capybaras but they also looked a little different, leaner and longer legged was what she noticed at a glance about the differences. Christine quickly got over her surprise but the beasts already had a large head start on her. She started after them but the group split into two and went in several directions so she made a snap decision to follow the left most group. Christine happily noticed she was slowly gaining on the creatures but noticed she was slowing down as well. However, the capybara-like beasts were getting slower as well.

One of the beasts then stumbled making it lag behind the others, Christine then knew that was the one she was going to kill and eat. They were still ahead of her but not by much, so she did one final sprint to catch up to the lagging one. It turned around, realizing it could not run fast enough and it's only chance at survival would be to fight. However, its chances against Christine were not good. She ran towards it before dodging as it clumsily tried to bite at her legs. Christine lept towards its neck and used her sickle claws to slash at the neck of the beast. Blood started to flow from its neck but in Christine’s opinion it wasn’t dying fast enough. So with her teeth she ripped the beast’s neck open and then it quickly died.

Christine then started to dig into the corpse, eating happily. As she was eating she saw a little orb, looking different from the organs surrounding it. Christine realized that this was the same type of organ that she had eaten from the tapir-boar or at least it looked very similar. She gingerly took it from the body and pondered on whether to eat it. Eating the organ from the tapir-boar had no noticeable negative side effects and Christine’s instincts were telling her to eat this one the same as before. This thought process led her to the decision to eat it. After eating the orb and finishing her meal, Christine went home.
