A Raptor and Her Life
Chapter 4 - A hunt.

Chapter 4 - A hunt.

Christine, still jittery from last night, peeked out from her log shelter cautiously. Slowly creeping out, she scanned the forested area. Seeing nothing dangerous she left to get a cool morning drink from the spring. Christine took a nice long drink and when she was done she sat down to think, ‘what was that thing yesterday in the meadow, I remember in games there was something similar to that creature and it was called an owl-bear. A bear with an owl face, owl-bear is a simple name for such an animal but it works I guess. What I need to know is what should I do about the owl-bear, it is’t much to wonder about though because really I’m not powerful enough to fight it so I probably should just try to avoid it.’ Christine decided that her plan was that she would catch some rabbits and then explore, similar to the previous day. She left the spring and went hunting.

Christine finished eating her first rabbit she had caught that day and started looking for more in a place she hadn’t been before. A while later she found a pond with a small group of snuffling animals that had their heads to the ground on the shore of the pond, these creatures looked like a mix between tapirs and boars. She considered whether she should try to kill one, she thought she probably could kill one but if the others attacked her she could be in trouble. Christine decided to stalk these tapir-boars and if one split up from the rest then she would attack.

After an hour of watching the tapir-boars and hiding from them as best as she could, one of them wandered into the water and dived under, swimming away. One by one the others followed. Christine’s heart beat quickly as her prey slowly left. When only one was left on the shore, that was when she charged.

The beast, hearing her, ran to the water but Christine lept atop it, digging her sickle claws into its back and, twisting her body, ripped with her teeth at the squealing creature's neck viciously. The tapir-boar rolled onto its back but Christine jumped off. Clambering onto its feet and bleeding from several wounds it snorted angrily at Christine. She hissed back and took an aggressive pose. Both beasts stood in place and warily eyed each other. Suddenly the tapir-boar broke the stalemate and charged Christine, she dodged but it still hit her left leg. She bit down on the tapir-boar’s throat and ripped, quickly she moved away as it collapsed. It jerked one last time and then stilled. She did a quick check of her leg, it was bleeding a little but she thought it probably would be okay.

Christine bit a leg of the corpse and dragged it farther from the water before beginning to eat. She ate as quickly as possible so something wouldn't come along and try to steal her meal. Finishing up her meal, Christine realized this was the first time she was full since she became a raptor. She decided to eat a little more before leaving but as she ate she wondered what the organs looked like of the tapir-boar and if she could eat any of them so decided to examine the organs. Christine moved the organs around with her claws and from what little she knew of anatomy didn’t see anything odd about it’s anatomy, she then saw a little round organ which wouldn’t have interested her if some instinct within her raptor body hadn’t arisen. Christine, despite having just eaten so much, hungered for this small organ. She considered ‘should I eat this thing, it might make me sick but my instincts are telling me to eat it, I’m just going to do it.’ Quickly, Christine ate the organ before she could back out. It tingled as it slid down her throat but nothing else happened. She cast a longing look at the delicious corpse before leaving. Christine went with her earlier plans and traveled off to explore.
