~Kaiser’s~

(Tokoha's Fight - Vanguard G)

It was time for the Super Rank tournament to begin or its formal name of the beginner rank region conference. Both my Team and Team: Basic were in the stadium waiting room. Reuben, Kenta, and Carter were down since they got scolded for their late-night adventures. Iris saw Kenta’s post on Flight and told Drayden. I’m not surprised as he is technically our guardian. Studying the room further, there were fourteen other teams here waiting. Some were young like us, while others were a bit older. Nothing over the top, however, none of us were at our final stage of evolution. This puts me at ease. I then leaned over to Ark since he looked like he was watching something on his ORB.

“What are you watching?” I asked.

“Oh, just the lineup for this year's World Conference,” Ark smiled. “As you know each year a season lasts ten months which gives teams time to qualify for the World Conference. As you know the World Conference starts next week and I was watching the interviews of teams,” Ark explained. Though wouldn’t that mean with the current season ending even if we win and gain super rank will we go back to beginner?

“Would we lose super rank if the season resets?” I asked.

“No,” Ark chuckled and ruffled up my head floof. “The only ones affected are those who competed in the world conference/have Crystal rank and those who have Elite rank,” Ark then got interrupted.

“That’s right, those who lose the world conference are marked as completed the elite rank task so they can compete immediately in the next Crystal qualifier for next season. While the ones who failed to attain win at a Crystal qualifier are then reduced to Master rank and have to do another elite scavenger hunt,” Iris walked up to us.

“Great timing Iris, I was looking through your interview,” Ark smiled at her.

“Wait, Iris, you’re competing in the World Conference!” I let out a shocked outburst and then recomposed myself.

“Not like I was trying to keep it a secret but yes we are. This is our first time in the world Conference. We get to go up against a big-shot Team: Iron. So far they have won the World Conference two years in a row,” Iris blushed a bit.

“Yes, Team: Iron. Their Tactician a Boltuld named Sonia, their tank a Doruludon named Raihan, and their leader Leon a Charizard,” Ark read the team aloud. Everyone would know who they are as they are a team marketed across the world.

“Well I came over to wish you guys luck and don’t worry everyone here is a pushover, you got this,” Iris then walked to our friends. I assume she’ll give them a pep talk. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little nervous as I feel I shouldn’t be the leader. Ark has more experience than me, yet if he were the team leader what would I be?

“If all competing teams would come to the stage!” An announcement was made on the intercom. It was our cue to walk out. All the Pokemon in the room started to file out.

“Snow White, it looks like you’ve seen a ghost,” I heard a chuckle and I knew who it was.

“Now’s not the time for your jokes and nicknames, can you be serious,” I sighed.

“Kaiser’s right, only one team can gain Super rank and I don’t think we’ll lose to a bunch of basic normal types,” Kaiser mocked Reuben’s team. He laughed at his joke. I’m glad to see my team in high spirits. Maybe I could join them in that regard. All the participating Pokemon then made their way to a tunnel where you could hear loud music.

(Engage - FE Engage)

As we walked out of the tunnel there were a bunch of flashing lights, loud cheers, and a loud bass. I could feel my heart racing at everything going on around me, it was making my nerves go out of control. This wasn’t like when feeling others' negative emotions or malice. Everything felt like it was slowing down but time was going fast at the same time as we walked to the stage. My breathing was starting to get out of control.

“What’s happening to me?” I whispered to myself.

“What did you say?” Someone asked. I couldn’t tell who the voice sounded distorted thanks to the music and whatever was happening. “Kaiser! Shit,” It was the same voice I couldn’t recognize. “ . . . he needs help,” I was having trouble making out what they were saying. Next thing I know I feel two bodies pressed up next to me. On my left was Ignis and on my right was Ark, they were supporting me.

“You’ll feel weird with my aura flowing through you,” Ark said with one hand on my back. As we kept walking I felt a weird pulse flowing through my body as I started to calm down. I regained my bearings and was able to see straight but my heartbeat was still rather irregular. “That should slow down the panic attack. Hopefully, our match is a one-on-one match,” Ark let out a sigh of relief.

“Thank you guys, that’s never happened before,” I tried to smile.

“Literally don’t mention it,” Ignis rolled his eyes. We eventually made it front and center where we saw an Excadrill with a weird-looking hat and a mic in his hands.

“Welcome everyone to the Driftveil Beginner rank conference. I’m your Emcee Clay the Underground Fighting Boss! We have sixteen teams here to fight for Super rank. Which of these Youngin teams will advance further in their fighting career,” for an old guy he’s full of vigor. The room stopped spinning for me and I realized I could stand without the support of my friends.

“I can stand on my own now,” the two of them stared at me and I blushed under their gaze as they let me go.

“You’re cute,” I heard Ark say something, but the rest got muffled by the music. I blushed harder but did my best to pay attention. When I looked towards Ignis he just rolled his eyes.

“Now without further ado, will y’all little rascals team leaders come up and draw a number from the box,” Clay announced as there was a box next to him. A line was created by the teams’ leaders and I was behind Reuben. As we all went forward each team replaced a number on the screen and I realized they had the bracket made based on seeding as team one was up against team sixteen in round one.

“Snow White,” I heard Reuben’s nickname for me and I looked forward to him but he didn’t turn back. “It would be lame if you lose before we get to fight. I want to crush you guys, got it? I’ll teach you that a princess should stay home,” he chuckled at his joke. I soften as I realize this is his way of showing his rivalry with me. You’d think I would learn a thing or two after eight years. Reuben then went up and pulled a number from the box.

“In the number three spot, we have Team: Basic of Opelucid City. Guess that old dragon put together a team this year,” the crowd cheered at Clay’s comment. Does Drayden have that much of a reputation for turning teams away? I walked up to the box and I didn’t realize it at first but when I stepped up it did a quick scan of my ORB before I reached my hand in the box. I then noticed an information screen pop up in front of Clay. I guess that’s how he got Reuben’s team from Opelucid. When I got the paper from the box I unfolded it and revealed a seven. I looked up at the bracket and noticed our teams won’t meet till the final. “In the number seven spot, we have Team: Ragnarok, another team from Opelucid. Drayden must’ve gone mad this year by selecting two teams!” The crowd cheered as I stepped off the stage. Eventually, everyone was placed in the bracket and it was time for round one.

“I’m itching for a fight,” Ignis looked full of energy and I can’t blame him. On the other hand, I’m trying my best to stay calm.

“Now that everything is set up, all first-round matches will be Team battles,” As Clay announced the first-round match types two battlefields rose from below. “Now will the first two matches prepare themselves. The rest of you youngins will have to wait.

“We get to fight first,” Kenta walked up to me. He seemed to be full of nerves but excited at the same time. “It’s time to use what we learned. I’m so excited to be here but I’m scared. I was about to say something till Reuben walked up to us.

“Thumper don’t worry, you haven’t steered us wrong yet,” Reuben ruffled up Kenta’s fur and you could see he didn’t like it.

“It took me so long to brush it to this perfection this morning,” he whined.

“Come on you two, we need to get going,” Carter wasn’t amused but you could tell their dynamic was different and that makes me happy for them. Leaving Team: Basic on the battlefield the remaining teams left to the waiting area.

~Ignis’s~

(Blinded By The Light - FFXIII)

I understand this is a beginner-rank tournament but this could be a bit more of a challenge. Not that I’m complaining and Team: Basic has climbed our way to the semi-finals and honestly I can see us fighting in the finals.

“Get back here!” A Buizel was flying straight at me cloaked in a veil of water. Even at a disadvantage, I can take him down. I stood my ground prepared to take the attack head-on when my eyes haze over. Instantly Buizel's move disappeared.

“Hope you had fun chasing me, but you’re just a bad fighter. Maybe after this fight, you should just quit,” I stalked up to him as he pulled himself up from the ground.

“You little,” he struggled up to his feet. All I did was disable his move, he wasted his energy chasing me down. I haven’t touched him yet, but I’ll show him who’s superior. My eyes gloss over again this time in a dark purple as a dark haze forms around the Buizel. He then screeched out in pain.

“That’s what I like to hear, sadly this is an official match so I can’t feed into my sadism,” I taunted.

“You creep,” he said through gritted teeth.

“Glad you think of me that way, but we’re done here,” I unleashed a ball of dark matter from my mouth in Buizel's direction. Knocking the Buizel out of my Hex and sending him flying back. This match is over.

“Carlos is down, making Ignis the victor. Granting Team: Ragnarok their second win they get to go to the finals,” Clay announced. “Now we have our two final teams. Team: Basic and Team: Ragnarok both teams are from Opelucid city. Who’ll win?” Clay got a rise out of the crowd.

“That was an amazing fight, could’ve done without the sadistic smirk at the end,” Ark complimented me.

“Sorry, not sorry. That’s just me and you have to take the good with the bad,” I smirked and Ark sighed.

“That was amazing though. All our matches have been one-on-one and we have won all of them with no losses,” Kaiser analyzed. He’s right as we have yet to lose at all.

“I hate to admit it but our hardest challenge in this tournament will be our friends on Team: Basic,” Ark seemed rather upset about that.

“I’ve been itching to fight them. Drayden never let us do joint training so I’m excited to see how they fight,” I was full of energy and ready to go.

“The final match will be held here tonight under the stars and flashing lights. Now get some rest y’all,” Drayden then exited the stage and we all took it as our call to leave too. We all met up outside, Drayden and Iris were waiting for us.

“I’m so proud of all of you!” Iris cheered and gushed all over us in public.

“It was to be expected we’d make it to the finals,” Carter scoffed.

“Stop it you’re being embarrassing,” I couldn’t look at her.

“Here’s your final obstacle, only one of you can win,” Drayden had an unreadable look on his face.

“Why did you choose for both of the teams to come here as Opelucid was hosting a beginner-rank tournament as well?” Ark asked, a bit confused.

“I agree as others were happening this week in the White Forest, Nimbasa City, and Icirrus City,” Kenta scrolled through venues on his ORB.

“Opelucid is known for only producing strong fighters, most being famous dragon types of the past. During my time we saw everyone as our opponent but the ones we trained with were our greatest rivals. Remember as you guys do train you are your greatest obstacle. It won’t be fair to the ones who lose and I as your trainer will not allow you to compete in another beginner-rank tournament until next year,” Drayden went off on speech.

This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author's work.

“Wait, next year!” Reuben and Kai were both surprised.

“Sadly Drayden is more traditional with his methods and doesn't believe in second chances,” Iris let out an uneasy laugh.

“Snow White, I won't lose,” Rueben had a fire light up in his eyes, I won't back down.

“Isn’t this a bit Illogical,” Kenta tried to diffuse the situation. Draydon only let out a huff as we started to walk back to the hotel.

“I’ve learned after the Cats Cradle incident to not question this man,” Ark had a small smile plastered on his face.

“Yeah Kenta, stop complaining,” Carter rolled his eyes. “Let’s just make sure we don’t have to be back next year. He then sent a glare my way.

“Do you have a problem with me or something,” I bite back.

“No, I thought you would have noticed this by now. I guess I give you more credit than you deserve,” Carter teased me.

“What’s that supposed to mean!?” I shouted.

“Let me spell it out for you,” Carter started talking slowly. “All the matches have been one-on-one and it’s obvious we will put our leaders and tacticians against each other leaving us. Me the Powerhouse and you the Glass Cannon,” this was Carter’s declaration of war.

“If you wanted to fight me all you had to do was ask,” I growled.

“Children leave it for tonight and tonight’s match might surprise all of you,” Drayden shut us all up but it did leave a question in our heads: what's going to happen tonight?

----------------------------------------

~Kenta’s~

(Area: Planet Wisp - Sonic Colors)

“Kenta, we're so proud of your progress. It's only been a few months and I can tell you've grown,” my mother on the other end, a sweet Cinccino.

“Thanks, Mom and I'm sure you'd love my teammates,” my ears then fell flat on my head. “Where's dad?” As I asked my question my mom sighed.

“You know he’s a busy man,” my mom paused awkwardly. I saw in the background of our video call the picture on the wall. My father was a Golduck and my mother a Cinccino with a tiny Minccino between them in the preparatory getup. “He was home last month and gave me some money to sustain us,” she perked up a bit.

“That’s good, at least he’s taking responsibility,” I sighed.

“Honey, please smile for me tonight is special. I wish I could be there to support you,” My mom tried to cheer me up.

“Thanks, Mom, it means a lot,” I smiled.

“Tell your teammates I say hi. I can see them coming up in the background,” she giggled.

“We heard you,” Reuben appears from my left and Carter from my right.

“Good luck you three and Love you Kenta,” She kissed the screen as she hung up.

“Your mother is really sweet. I wish I had one,” Carter sounded lost in thought.

“Imagine having parents,” Reuben chuckled.

“Are we bonding over having broken families,” I giggled a bit.

“I guess so, one other thing the three of us have in common,” Carter laughed and the rest of us joined in. It’s rare to see us get along like this and you have to savor those special moments. That’s when we noticed Carter started to glow a light blue.

“How did friendship cause his evolution to trigger?” I was confused.

“I don’t know?” Carter’s voice echoed a bit as he was evolving. His body shifted as he grew taller and his black cape grew too. Not to mention the mask on his face created by his fur. The blue hue went away as it revealed his new form as a Herdier.

“Woah, I feel stronger,” Carter looked himself over. “Not to mention I learned a new move and forgot Rock Tomb,” Carter sounded full of himself as he swelled with pride.

“I guess I can’t call you Scamp anymore,” Reuben then pondered a new nickname, and both Carter and I deflated. He is going to keep up with giving us nicknames, I mentally sweat-dropped. “Let’s call you Balto as you are no longer a pup like Scamp,” Reuben’s face lit up. I then realized the nickname he had given him was from the old movie Balto.

“You watched that movie,” Carter sounded a bit irritated. “Better than being called Scamp,” Carter sighed.

“What else did you expect me to do in the orphanage? I watched old movies and did art,” Reuben shrugged as he walked off. Both Carter and I followed behind him. I was taking the call in one of the stalls in the PWT lobby and the three of us went up to an attendant. They told us we would be waiting in one of the special locker rooms. They only use these special locker rooms if they host a Crystal qualifier tournament and we could see why. There were large lockers with a special shower off to the side, not to mention a sauna. Some weights, a punching bag, and a TV

“What a luxurious waiting room. Reminds me a bit of the mansion,” Carter commented. Both Reuben and I raised a brow at his comment. “I was referring to the Opelucid Gym that we are training at, it's sort of like a mansion there,” he then explained himself and he wasn’t wrong. If you looked at the TV it showed six pictures on it was Team: Ragnarok’s faces and our team's faces. As well as our titles and records in matches. As this is our first recorded tournament it shows both teams with three wins. It also shows our stats, our ages, heights, and known moves. It’s amazing to know Pokemon love the league as a sport and I was able to be a part of it. I found it funny how it still had Carter as a picture of him earlier in the tournament as a lillipup.

(BW Title Screen - T/B/T SimPlayer)A/N: Tournament theme version one

“Are y’all ready?!” The screen quickly changed and showed Clay on a giant battlefield. It had giant rocks that could obstruct your view.

“What’s with the special battlefield?” Carter looked intrigued.

“Tonight is a special match not only will we have them fight under the stars but a team battle!” Clay’s voice roared through the stadium with his accent. The crowd seemed excited. “Our two finalists are teams from Opelucid City, who knew those old dragons would train some more teams?” he joked.

“Team: Basic it is time for you to walk on stage,” the room attendant said and we found our way down a dark tunnel.

“Thumper, Balto, don’t fall behind. Those losers won’t know what hit them,” I guess that’s Reuben’s attempt at a pep talk. We walked out of the tunnel to be on a walkway to the battlefield and a spotlight shined on us.

“Our first team is here and looks like one of em youngins evolved,” Clay pointed out Carter’s evolution. “Team: Basic has entered the field, everyone. They’ve shown that normal types shouldn’t be messed with. Fun fact with their ages combined they are the youngest team to enter the tournament,” Clay went on a spiel. I blushed at the fact we were the youngest team to enter the tournament. “Our second team to enter is Team: Ragnarok,” A spotlight shined on Kaiser’s team as they entered. “Another fun fact is all three sons of the legendary Team: Ascension is present in this match,” the crowd roared at that but I’m not aware of that team. “The son of Allister Stone we have L’Ark stone. The son of Damon Cottontail, we have Reuben Cottontail. Lastly the leader August Luna and his son Kaiser Luna,” Clay announced. I thought Reuben and Kaiser grew up in an orphanage yet they did arrive there when they were five. I’ll look up Team: Ascension at a later date. Though I could see the surprised look on Kaiser’s face while Ark had one sadness. “For those of you who don’t know Team: Ascension took the league by storm twenty years ago and won the Crystal League seven times in a row after they were first created. Ten years ago they disappeared without a trace, but here we are with their children. Now let the spectacle begin!” Clay then walked off the battlefield. “Battle! Begin!” He shouted.

(Tera Raid Theme - Pokeli)

“Ignis, now!” Kaiser cried out. All of a sudden a wall of fire appeared separating our teams.

“What’s Snow White trying to do?” Reuben seemed a bit on edge. The wall then expanded itself forcing us all to dodge and we got separated. When I got up I saw Ark staring right at me.

“This must’ve been your plan,” I accused him.

“Wrong, but credit goes to Kaiser. I’m a tactician which means I come up with our combos and techniques. Kaiser thought it would be smarter to do one on one but make it so no one was disturbed,” Ark explained. I have to say smart on his part. He then launched his aura at me and I coated my tail in water.

“Carter! We need your help!” I shouted.

“About time you acknowledged my strength,” He shouted back as a constant clapping noise filled the battlefield.

“Kenta tactic, T-Helping Hand!” I felt stronger than before as I countered Ark’s Aura Sphere with my Aqua Tail. I batted it back at and he got hit head-on. “Hope you like that. this little tactic we worked on for a while. I realized Helping Hand can help those within a radius, but with training, he can use it as a sound wave status boost,” this is one of the special tactics we mastered in our team training. I then noticed the aura ball coming back at me. Ark’s leg was also covered in flames. I then coated my tail in water again to bat the ball back, I then realized I didn’t have the power of a Helping Hand to back me up. I caught the aura with my tail but it was too much power and toppled me over into the rock. Wow, this hurts more than what they show on TV. Ark started making his way to me.

“You may be good at tactics but you don’t possess a lot of power. That goes for the whole team and Kaiser wanted to exploit that,” Ark explained. Ark is right when we would train at Opelucid it was team exercises, and we didn’t focus on our individual skills often. Ark was now hovering over me. I then noticed swords fly around his head, he was ready to end me so early in the match. “I hope we get to fight a more fulfilling match down the line,” Ark braced his palm as if he were about to blast me.

“Thumper!” A rush of white came flying and crashed into Ark forcing him to stumble off his feet. “Took me a second to lose Snow White,” Reuben looked roughed up.

“Thank you, but time for us to take on Ark,” I got in a defensive stance.

“It won’t be long before Snow White finds us so let’s make this quick,” Reuben started to glow purple as he closed his eyes as if he had fallen asleep. He needed to Rest and be my support for the time Being. I ran towards Ark and slipped around him, tickling him with my tail. He couldn’t help but laugh but he recomposed himself quickly. When he was about to attack he got hit with a massive sound wave that sounded like someone was snoring.

“Thanks for the back up Reuben,” I smiled and slapped Ark with my tail. Again, and again, and again. “Tail Slap!” I whipped him with my tail one last time. Ark didn’t even wait as he was holding his palm ready to attack. Another loud Snore disrupted him and the place from his Force Palm missed its mark. “It’s time I show you I’m not weak,” I flowed with energy as stars started to form around me and I charged at Ark. “Last Resort!” I was so happy I was able to pull off the move. That’s when something jumped in the way and took the attack. It felt like I was touching nothing. When I jumped back it was Kaiser, no wonder he’s part ghost type.

“Ark I didn’t mean for Reuben to join your fight, accept my apologies for me joining your side,” Kaiser is always so poise.

“No worries, little Kenta had me stumbling for a bit,” Ark acknowledged my strength.

(MAKUAKE (Instrumental) - Digimon Ghost Game)

“Seems like nap times over and I’m ready to go,” I looked behind me and Reuben was awake from his Rest. That’s when a Vulpix tumbled into Ark, looking like he got attacked.

“This is a Team battle after all don’t forget I’m a part of this team,” Carter came running up to us. Looks like everyone is here to end this fight.

“Let’s go battle tactic Dark Night,” Ark announced. Instantly the area flooded with many Kaisers’ and darkness covered the area we were in.

“Balto we need light,” Reuben ordered and Carter started to use Thunderbolt.

“Not on my watch,” It sounded like Ignis. Instantly Carter couldn’t use Thunderbolt anymore.

“What the-” Carter then grunted as if he got attacked. I can barely see anything in this darkness.

“Thumper!” Reuben got in front of me and a wall of wool appeared around us. They started to attack the wool.

“Do you have a plan?” Carter asked.

“I have something I’m not sure if it will work,” I was unsure as we never practiced this.

“This Darkness comes from Ignis’s Hex so if we can get him in an attack he will lose his focus and we can see. Reuben, I need you to Rest again and Carter you and I are on offense but on my mark,” I said the plan and they both agreed. It didn’t take long for Reuben to start snoring and we made our move. I was right Ignis lost his focus but Kaiser still had his Double Team up. “I need your help, Carter,” he nodded as the area started to flow with his energy of Helping Hand. Gathering water around my tail I swept the area to clear all the Kaiser clones.

“It won’t be that easy,” Ark launched an Aura Sphere at the two of us and I took the hit. A super effective hit, it knocked me down but I still had the energy to fight.

“My turn,” Carter made his way to Ark and started to Play Rough with him. As I got to my feet Reuben was waking up and Carter got back from his attack on Ark. Seems we are at an impasse.

“We need to finish this now,” Reuben looked agitated.

“I agree,” Kaiser nodded.

“Basic tactic: Ultimate assault,” I announced. This tactic requires us all to use our strongest attack. Rueben charged at them using Double Edge, I used Last Resort, and Carter used Retaliate. Kaiser then got in our way Using Double Team to make two more of himself to block the three of us.

“Battle tactic: Ghost wall,” Ark announced.

“Do it now, both of you!” Kaiser Shouted. Ark and Ignis appeared from behind him. Ark blasted us with his Aura Sphere and Ignis with Dark Pulse. That was enough to send us all tumbling back from the blast. This time I don’t think I’m getting up.

“We have our winners and it came down to the wire with their final attacks but Team: Ragnarok has won!” Clay announced. Yup, who could have guessed. We were helped up to our feet by our opponents.

“That was a fun match,” Ark greeted me with a smile. “If it was a one-on-one match between you and me I wouldn’t be able to tell the outcome. Plus your tactics are resourceful. We all should fight again,” Ark gave our team praise.

“Whatever, just don’t look down on us,” Carter growled.

“No need to be feisty Carter. We’ll get 'em next time,” I hugged my friend. As I turned to the rest of Team: Ragnarok, Ignis seemed like he had a lot going through his head and Kaiser wore a smile.

“Glad you kids can smile through it all but I award Team: Ragnarok with Super Rank. Their next challenge will be beating their school's headmaster,” Clay announced. That’s right they will have to beat headmaster Ice now. My team will have to eventually but I wonder how long that will take.

(Emotion - Vanguard G)

It took a bit of time for us to exit the PWT as we got an interview. I wasn’t sure how to answer their questions but Ark seemed to know how to handle the press well. We did a group celebration and got ice cream in Driftveil. We eventually checked out of the hotel and got our things packed in the van for our trip back to Opelucid City. This was an eventful trip and I’m not talking about the tournament but our stop in Mistralton City, encountering a rogue team, and meeting Team: Fusion. This was so much fun, though, what is fun without a purpose? When Clay mentioned me being the son of a member of Team: Ascension my mind exploded as that is my only lead on my family and how I ended up in Accumula town. What happened to me? Why am I not like a normal Zorua? I guess I have to become stronger to find out because after we get Master Rank we are free to travel as we please. It’s been a long day. Maybe I shouldn’t let my brain spiral like this.

“Snow White, I’ve been calling your name for a while,” Reuben pulled me out of my thinking.

“What is it?” I asked.

“We’re taking a picture in front of the Driftveil City gym before we go. Kenta and Ark wanted it as a souvenir for our trip.

“Oh my bad, I’m coming,” I hopped out of the van and ran towards the gym following Reuben. As we arrived the stars made the scenery around us so pretty. “Sorry to keep you waiting,” I apologized.

“No need, get over here,” Iris gestured for me to fall in. Kenta then pulled up his ORB to take a picture of us all together including Drayden and Iris.

“Alright, everyone say Beginner Rank,” Kenta Cheered.

“Beginner Rank,” the ORB flashed while taking the picture.
