Chapter 5: Growth

Chapter 5: Growth

Jacob took a moment to orient himself and took a good look at his new environment, there was a battle happening below him. Two armies were in a clash of immense proportion. He scanned the battlefield both sides were humanoid in appearance as both were running with a bipedal gait, the chaos of the melee was mind boggling there were different colours deep in each army as both sides were being infiltrated. Massive arrays of spells were slung from both sides causing an untold amount of destruction both to the surroundings and whoever may be struck by the spells a cacophony of noises rang out with no rhyme or reasons, Jacobs eye caught onto a glowing blue knightly figure and concentrated on its movement. The knight ran around weaving in and out of its enemies blocking strikes aimed at both it and its allies with impeccable timing, as told by the Suzerain these are learning lessons pertaining to his Job and also his skills once he fulfilled the criteria. Innate abilities however would require more then just fulfilment of the requirements of the System but personal understanding towards the abilities after being imparted to fully understand its intricacies.

Jacob guessed that a Grade 1 Job itself is just too low level for an ancient wielder of the Job to portray its intricacy properly, hence one of its advancement a Knight of sorts was portrayed for Jacob to learn from . He focused once again on the stalwart figure each movement seems calculated both to protect its ally and inflict maximum damage at the same time.

Jacob willed himself to fly closer to the knight to get a better view of its movement, while doing so Jacob saw that the knight was able to slide a sword strike off the shield angling it so that it slides into another enemy while piercing through the strikers’ chest with a beautiful sword 1.2m in length shrouded with an emerald hue, the guard was adorned on both sides with intricately carved griffins. Following that the knight murmured something along with a hand movement so smooth it felt like it was part of a magic trick, which might be true as after the knights’ incantation along with a flourish of the hand a blue aura shrouded the knight and its allies in its immediate vicinity. Jacob saw the affected people faces brightening up in real time and heard indiscernible shouts from them as if they were rallying for another push.

Jacob followed the knight throughout the duration of the vision, trying to burn each movement and action of the knight into memory. To gain a better advantage in mastering the upcoming skills and Innate abilities, one of the knights’ skill if it can be called so was very much to Jacobs liking as it felt very versatile, whenever the knight did a swift slash the aura around the now haunting green sword condensed on the point of impact, regardless of the opponents quality of armour it allowed the sword to cut through the armour straight into the opponent.

The vision ended when the knight was unceremoniously cut down from behind by an infiltrator from its enemy side. The killing of the knight both brought Jacobs vision back to the chapel and sobered him up, even an individual as skilled as the knight could be cut down so abruptly if the situation aligns properly. Jacob did not even possess a hundredth of the prowess shown by the knight, if he want to succeed he would have to give it his all and then some. So he can help his friends when the time comes but before that he would have to get through this Tutorial made by the System in one piece. A few moments later more words ringed in his mind

[Would you like to choose a nickname for the Minor Announcement]

Jacob immediately affirmed and chose a nickname his close friends would know, a smile appeared on his face as he did it. Hopefully tea is available in this new and chaotic world

[Item: Sword of Flowing Water obtained]

Unfortunately the system did not provide an all encompassing magical inventory for each individual, so the sword granted by the system was conjured and dropped to the floor with a clang. Before he moved to take up the sword that looked as if it was encased in water, like the beautiful translucent water of an untainted river void of animals and plants.

Jacob took a deep breath and tried the new method introduced by the Suzerain and willed his status page to be viewed outside of his mind so that he can survey his surrounding and not be basically blinded every time he wanted to do a quick check of his status for a review.

Jacob announced a silent thank you to the System for being so accommodating, not caring if it can be heard. The essence around the chapel propelled Jacob to level 5 straight from level 1 but there was no bar to check how close he is to the next level he can only approximate based on how full the core is, it also grew from the size of an apple to a fist sized swirl. He would have to work on condensing the core later as a swirl was still the signs of a fledgling to the universe at large. A proper core would be a perfect sphere, but Jacob neither had the time nor the patience to start the crunching process.

Jacob picked up Flowing Water and gave it a few test slashes, he did not know anything about swords but it felt right in his hand even if the sword was nearly his height standing at an impressive height of 1.5m from hilt to tip. Its heft did not impede Jacob from moving Flowing Water. Jacob bowed to the statue of Suzerain Turain, turned and moved towards the doors of the chapel. He would have to test what he could glimpse from the blue knight and fulfil the criteria of both his skills and abilities. He only have 6 days or so left he could not dawdle.

There were bountiful rewards laying all around this part of the Tutorial and he was determined to get it. He was also overflowing with power granted from the new stats gained, as it was a general improvement he could only feel that his body in general moved better not being able to directly feel what each stat granted. The Suzerain did give Jacob a general overview of what each stats help with in respect to his body, but also warned Jacob not to be too cocky about it being given a boost right now as all the stats in the world will not help him beat a skilled and talented individual. However Jacob doubted there would be anybody of a higher caliber than him around he was the first adventurer on Earth after all, he found out later that not only were people catching up to him. They were already surpassing him by leaps and bounds in this very Tutorial, but he would pay the price of his arrogance further down the road.
