The Prophecy 4

"Three are down, another three are remaining, and their backs are facing us," said the young boy to the man beside him. "How many?" asked the man back to the young man. He answered, "Another six men." The man's face changed color immediately, and he looked back to his wife and said, "I am sorry, Hina, Luke will take care of you, until you reach the city, and I will take care of this."

Without waiting for any response from the woman he called Hina, he gave a last look at the two kids and turned his face back to the young man, saying, "Farewell brother, I will go now," and immediately he stood up, and jumped to his right side, and started running.

The children started crying, and so did the woman. He didn't give them any chance to say anything; all of that just took a few seconds. Luke was shocked also, and he stopped firing, him stopping firing, the children crying, and the man running out, all this happened in just around five seconds.

The men who were shooting at them also stopped firing back at the same time, as it appears they were not expecting the man to come out and run in the opposite direction. They had already lost three men to a sharp-shooting young man, but their goal was to capture the man who fled.

The issue is the young man who is shooting back at them. People's reaction times and ways are totally different. Two of them reacted immediately after the young man stopped shooting and ran after the man, and the third one's hesitation cost him his life.

Jennan was uncomfortable walking in this forest. It was the first time in her life she had walked outdoors; she had never gone outside of the city, and never needed to walk more than a few meters at a time. She had been walking for hours, how many she didn't know. She could only estimate it by three to four hours. It's almost noon according to her estimate from the time she came to find herself in this forest. It's a total of six hours, maybe seven. She felt confused more than once.

She has no fixed destination she has to go to. She doesn't know where she was, or even what she was doing here, or what the purpose of bringing her here is. The only thing she had been told by the message was to survive for twenty-four hours. She had found food and water in the bag. The food looked like a military ration, small packs of dried food, meat, and vegetables. Although the test was very strange, at the end, it was food and was enough to fill her stomach.

Luckily, she hadn't encountered anything dangerous for the past hours, that she had been walking, and if things kept on going this way, she could survive the remaining eighteen hours. The only mission she has received until now is to survive. The only thing that is bothering her at the moment is that, she is filled with frustration and anger. Most of the anger is directed at herself, for accepting this shady matter.

She was immersed in her thoughts, when suddenly a foggy mist appeared from nowhere and the visibility became zero in front of her became zero in a few seconds. Everything around her was covered by a thick fog, and she was unable to see even a few meters ahead of her, let alone that if she raised her arm forward, she was unable to see half of her arm. She could only see until her elbow.

The only solution she could think of was to stand where she was, and that is what she did. She tried to remember if there was anything unique around her, but couldn’t remember anything. Simply because she was not paying enough attention to her surroundings, her thoughts were occupied by thinking, and her brain was scattered everywhere.

And now she suddenly felt scared. The fear started deep down in her heart and felt cold in all of her joints. "So now, the horror will start." Finally, she figured out what the meaning of "survive" was. Obviously, something will come through this fog and will start chasing me. Since I can't see anything in front of me, I know I will stumble over a small rock, or a root of a tree, or something else, whatever it is, and I will fall down. Then that would be my end.

Certain scenarios and more came through her mind, even though she was frozen in her location, unable to move anywhere or do anything. Fear consumed her thoughts, and her body became subject to her mental condition, and she started shaking and feeling cold and chilled.

During her travels inside this forest, she didn't come across any animals, beasts, or anything. The only sound she used to hear was the sound of the wind bustling through the leaves of the trees. That was the main reason she was relaxed and forgot to be vigilant. Now she started hearing footsteps on her right side, someone walking cautiously, like a beast wanted to jump on its prey.

So that's it. This is my end, and here comes the beast that's going to eat me, finally.

But it seems like it was the footsteps of a human, I don't think it's a beast. The beasts in this world are intelligent enough to catch their prey even if they can't see them. They don't need to move cautiously like this one. Her thoughts were everywhere, sometimes thinking the worst things and sometimes thinking rationally. She didn't move or say anything, looking to where she heard the footsteps sound coming from. She even held her breath involuntarily, as if it were sacred if one single sound comes from here, it will be the last.
