Chapter 19

Twin souls 19

*Pyrrha

I say goodbye to my teammates and head to the arena. I'm already wearing my weapon and armor, so no one is surprised to see me next to the Professor. I wanted my teammates to see the real me before they see me fight.

I can handle any second-year team and most of the third-year teams in a one vs four fight. Ms.Glenda talked to me earlier and she wants me to face team CRDL. I know she doesn't mean to isolate me from my peers as some unreachable idol, but that's what's going to happen.

"Well when we beat her that'll make us the best"

I look up at the noise and see two twins I've seen hanging out with team RWBY running down from the stands. They reach the stage and start walking around me, but they stop when Ms.Glenda gives them a stern look. They stand back to back and glare at me.

"Jadan, does she look tough to you?" One asks

"No, Jada. Does she look heroic to you?"

Jada and Jadan got it. I put on my professional smile, the one I learned from my agent. "Jada and Jadan, we're all tough or we wouldn't be here as students of Beacon." I don't even bother with the heroic part, I hate being called Invincible Girl. I don't want heroic somehow to be added to it.

"Whatever" Jadan mutters

"Yeah, the only thing we want to know is if you think you're ready to fight us" Jada challenges

"The teacher decides who fights, not me" I reply, narrowing my eyes.

"Sounds like someone is afraid of losing her Invincible Girl title" Jada mocks as Ruby tries to pull the taller girl and boy back to the stands. She sighs in relief when her teammates join her and turns to her sister.

"Yang, Jada, and Jadan keep saying you should do a 1v1 with Pyrrha," she tells her teammates.

"I can take her on," Yang says confidently.

I look at the professor, who's just watching, and take a step toward the twins. "I thought you wanted to fight me yourselves?"

"We do, we're demon weapons, the best in this school" Jada boasts

"The world" Jaden adds

I'm from Mistral, so I know about spirits and demon tales. But I've never heard of demon weapons before. It doesn't matter which team I fight anyway.

"Fine, you want to fight, I accept your challenge."

"Yang, go get your combat gear." Ms.Glenda orders

"Your aura will be displayed on the screen. When it reaches forty percent, the fight will be over. Anyone who continues after the match is called will be expelled. This is combat training, not a death match." Ms.Glenda explains to the class in a stern voice.

I walk over to my corner and watch as team RWBY leaves Yang and the twins to fight me. Yang is in her armor but isn't wearing her gauntlets from the exam. While the twins are not only empty-handed they're still in the school uniform.

Unholstering Miló and Akoúo̱, I look back at the professor who seems fine with me fighting an unarmed and two unarmored classmates. Getting in a fighting stance, my muscles tense as I get ready for the signal.

"Begin"

The twins standing next to Yang turn white for a second and oh, they are actually weapons. Ignoring that for now, I dash toward Yang with incredible speed. Meeting her in the middle, I get in close and jump over her opening punch, shooting her three times in the back with Miló.

Landing behind her, already holding my weapon in its sword form, I rush her to shield bash her with Akoúo̱. As she meets my shield with her fist and stops it, I use my semblance on my shield for more power and toss her back. Twirling my sword into its gun form, I take potshots at her before she lands on the ground.

Rushing forward, I meet her as soon as she touches the ground. The momentum behind me and semblance wrapped around my spear, I thrust at Yang with Miló. Tossing her head over heels to the edge of the arena, I glance up at the board.

Pyrrha aura 100%

Yang aura 82%

That's an impressive amount of aura she must have. Rolling my shoulders, I twirl my weapon into a sword and dash forward.

*Yang

I skid to a halt before rolling out of the ring, feeling a sharp pain in my ribs from that last hit. I wince before jumping to my feet, ready for more. I look up at Pyrrha, who is rolling her shoulders casually. I slam both gauntlets into each other. "Boost" I barked, ignoring the grumbling from the twins. I'm willing to name moves for them, but they have to be one or maybe three words long.

As Pyrrha comes rocketing at me with her sword and shield, I dash forward to meet her head-on. This time when we clash, I can keep up with her. As I block her slash on the back of my now red gauntlet, a flash of fire shoots from it, but she ducks and blocks with her shield, so I slam my vibrating left gauntlet into it. Bang! The impact sends Pyrrha flying into the air, spinning like a top. I slam my fists together again and only slightly wince at the toll on my aura.

"Phoenix claw strike!" I howl as I throw my fist at Pyrrha in mid-air, launching a fiery fist at her. The air is filled with heat and light as the fist rushes to her. I cover my eyes and brace for the explosion, but then I feel something hard hit me in the side. Immediately losing my breath as the sword hilt slams into my side, my eyes open as the explosion then goes off. Temporarily blinding me from the light show.

Putting up my guard and blinking rapidly, I try to get my vision back. Hearing footsteps in front of me I swing my left fist blindly, hoping to hit something. But then a leg sweeps my feet from under me and I fall to the ground with a thud. My vision clears up just in time to see her shield coming down onto my face. I raise my hands to defend myself. The shield slams into me with a loud clang and bounces me off the ground like a rubber ball. Before I can recover, she kicks me in the chest and sends me flying up into the air.

I watch tensely as she jumps up and follows me into the air like a hawk chasing its prey. She is relentless as she strikes me with her sword and shield over and over again. With each successful hit, it gets harder to block. My head starts to get fuzzy as my aura gets weaker. As our upward momentum dies, Pyrrha pushes off of her shield and grabs me by the neck, and spins me around, building up more speed and force. Throwing me head-first to the ground like a ragdoll.

This time when I hit the ground, I don't bounce up.

"Match goes to Pyrrha!" The professor declares.

I spit out some blood from my mouth and see Jada and Jadan materialize next to me. They have worried looks on their faces. I glance at the board and then smile weakly before passing out.

Pyrrha aura 52%

Yang aura 26%
