The inside of the town was much more spacious than I thought.
It was also surprisingly quite like some housing areas on earth, with roads, walkways and buildings lining the side. Apart from the ceiling hanging around 20 metres above.
Well, not that there were any high-rise buildings obviously. I also found it a bit strange that their houses here didn't have those tiled roofs; most of the buildings just had flat tops. It was almost like looking at rows of mini-apartments, which was a funny thought.
I didn't really know what I was supposed to do here since I was forcefully sent here though.
I figured I might as well just get Radio to ask Hali and Uell what they wanted to do.
"Uh, any plans?"
"What else? We're going to tour the place! I heard there's great food and souvenirs here." Hali grinned. "If you wait too long, your owner will probably find you anyway. Might as well enjoy your time here!"
I don't know why I expected something else from him... No idea why he still thought I came from here either.
Right beside the gate, I saw a box full of pamphlets. Wait, could I get Tablet to scan these so I could understand the dwarven language better?
Excitedly, I floated a few over to take a better look... and realise it was in Iyash. I felt like an idiot.
Well, whatever. I handed them over to my passengers.
"Thanks! Hmm..."
Haliton flipped through quickly until he came to a page with a map on it.
"Aha!"
He looked through it quickly.
"The money changer is pretty close, just-"
I snatched the pamphlet away from him. I know how to read maps, okay? No need for him to tell me where to go...
"What?"
"Ah, sorry! I snatched it with a bit too much force! Ahahaha..." Radio laughed nervously. "I can follow the directions myself, by the way."
Sometimes it's a bit annoying how I couldn't communicate how I felt directly. Maybe that could be for the best through. Radio seemed pretty good at dealing with people...
The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.
Hali and Uell soon walked out of the money exchange area, Hali with an especially wide grin.
"We'll go around and grab some stuff, so stay put, okay? Minnie, do you want to join us?"
"No," Minnie said, its face expressionless.
"Haliton... isn't that a bit unfair?" Uell whispered.
"Well, it's not like it can go into the buildings with us, right? What am I supposed to do?"
...
Urgh, I remember feeling left out at times because I couldn't enter buildings back on earth too. This kind of sucks. Plus, couldn't he have gotten me to drive them around.
I asked Radio to tell them something.
"Mind getting me a few popular stories here and a dictionary by the way?"
Hali nodded.
"I can understand the appeal of a good book myself! But are you sure you can read it?"
"Err... I think I'll figure it out eventually."
"Hmm... I'll see if I can find some translated ones. See you in a bit!" he waved to us.
Despite the number of vehicles parked beside me, it felt kind of lonely here in the parking lot.
For a second, I thought of trying to talk to them, but then I decided against it. They probably spoke a different language here anyway and might not want to be disturbed.
"I'm kind of surprised, actually, Minnie." Radio said, all of a sudden.
"Hmm?"
"From how you acted, I thought you would hate dwarves or something? I guess I was just surprised to find you with them. And also coming down here to this city, I guess."
Oh, that's true actually, now that I realise it.
Minnie paused for a moment, looking downwards.
"Well... I don't hate them per se. It's not their fault. It's the fault of the manufacturers that make us." it sighed. "Besides, I can understand why they'd want us bound. Who would buy a product that could just leave if it didn't want to work anymore?"
"You... don't think it's wrong?"
"Business is business. If not for that, I would not have been created. I guess I can be grateful for that much. Hah... Right now, I just want to see the world, to see what it has to offer, after being stuck guarding that town for so many years."
"But why here of all places? Aren't there many more places to explore?"
"You're being very intrusive. you know?" Minnie grumbled.
"Ah! Sorry!"
"Hmph." Minnie stretched its body. "Well, I suppose I just wanted to see the original civilisation for myself. You being sent here would probably be my only chance to visit here, anyway."
"Oh..."
"Now shut up and let me relax!"
I thought Radio would respond with "sorry", but it didn't answer.
----------------------------------------
"Heeeey!" Haliton hiccuped. "Sorry, urgh, for the wait!"
The two dwarves were grinning widely, their faces red.
I guess they got drunk.
I put down my book and checked the time.
[10 PM]
Four hours, huh? Felt a lot shorter since I was reading.
They were carrying many bags that I almost mistook for plastic at first, which surprised me a lot. But after looking closer, I realised they were much thicker and glossier.
I realised they were quite flexible too, as I helped them load the bags in with telekinesis.
Hmm, they bought food, bottles of drink, a few books, random gadgets and... some kind of squarish container full of something oily?
Ack, I guess they thought I need normal fuel.
When I looked into the food containers, I was filled with the temptation to just snatch up some of it though. It looked really tasty!
"Urgh... Minnie, you should have come with us! It was great!"
"I can't eat food."
As they began, talking, something occurred to me. If Minnie wanted to see the place itself, why didn't it accompany them? Even if it couldn't eat, it should at least look around, right?
"Hmm... maybe he's shy?"
Eh?
I took another look at Minnie's grumpy face.
No way.
