After a very messy talk with the guards, we were directed to find a job from some sort of "adventurer" pub or something where they handed out miscellaneous jobs to people for some money. I didn't feel like odd jobs were very adventurous, but I managed to find a suiting one after idling outside of the building for a while. (Radio spent a lot of time trying to explain why the person could not leave the truck.)
I decided to help transport a group of people to a nearby city, which also happened to be the one I was not allowed entry to. Sheepy had to run along outside of cargo because they didn't want to sit inside with a sweaty sheep.
If all went well, I would get cash and possibly get a chance to enter the city! That seemed perfect to me.
Sheepy glared at me as it ran alongside. I was surprised by how it could even catch up with me.
"That was the worst pronunciation I've never heard! You really need to work on actually speaking properly. Also, why did you use a different voice from the one you are using to speak to me?"
This sheep was being way too stuck up!
Well, it wasn't me speaking. It was Radio over here.
I floated Radio out for Sheepy to see.
"Hi..." it said awkwardly.
Sheepy looked really taken back for a moment.
"What did she say? Did she swear at me?"
Yeah, I guess it wouldn't understand Radio.
She? Hmm, I didn't think about this before, but I guess people would consider Radio a female from its feminine voice won't they? Well, I don't think it should cause any real issues, but just in case...
Radio can you do any other voices?
"Huh? Ok, I'll try!" Radio sounded flustered. "HI! I AM BIG STROONG MAAN!"
It sounded like a woman was trying to do a joking gruff man voice very poorly.
"Hey! I was trying!"
You really can't do any other voices? Weren't you able to broadcast voices of radio hosts back on earth?
"I don't know why I cant..."
Oh well.
"Why did she do a funny voice? She's mocking me isn't she?" Sheepy didn't seem pleased.
Royal Road is the home of this novel. Visit there to read the original and support the author.
Nah, Radio didn't say anything bad. She said hi to you! I was just seeing if she could talk in different voices!
"Yes. Very likely."
Really!
The sheep hmphed.
"So. She's the friend that suggested that disgusting contract?"
"No! It was Tablet!"
I floated Tablet out for Sheepy to see.
It's this guy.
[HI.] it displayed.
"So you think it's funny to give me that kind of nonsense?"
I didn't know why, but I felt the urge to laugh. An angry sheep confronting a tablet was not something I expected to ever see.
[YES.]
Sheepy glared. Wait, it could read the text on Tablet? Was this some kind of fantasy nonsense where the words could be understood by everyone or did it have to do with the contract?
"I'd give you a good ram in the face, but I'll give you a warning since I'm feeling generous today. Don't make such jokes around me."
Stern sheep. Wow.
As more text started to appear on Tablet, I decided to quickly retrieve both it and Radio. DIdn't want to cause any more drama.
It was also then when the passengers asked something.
"They asked what the ruckus was about."
With the help of the sheep, Radio managed to explain that everything was fine in very poor pronunciation.
Soon, I reached the destination. Sheepy seemed a little tired from trying to keep up with my speed, panting constantly.
"Stupid humans... taking up all the space..." it muttered.
The crazy girl that levitated me was on duty at the gates. She didn't seem pleased to see me. Well, this time I had a proper reason to be here!
Radio sloppily said that we were transporting people. The girl replied something.
"She says to stay out and just let the people in." translated Sheepy.
Well fine then. At least I got my money now!
I took the payment from the people as they took out their luggage and dealt with the guards. As sheepy hopped on in place of them, I had a feeling it was pretty relieved.
Back to the town, I guess...
As I drove, Sheepy decided it had something to say.
"You're not really providing much incentive to stay, are you? I'm only really hanging around because you healed me back then."
Well, that wasn't good. I didn't want to lose my translator! I raked my mind for something... Oh yes, levels!
So... do you want to become stronger and stuff?
"What?"
I can help you get stronger!
Sheep stared at me with suspicion.
"Oh? And how are you planning to do it?"
You'll get stronger when you kill stuff!
"You're telling me to get stronger through combat experience?!"
Gahh! Why did it have to be so hard to explain about levelling up?
No no! It's some kind of contract power thing. You can absorb power from stuff you kill to power up!
"You're telling me to just go on a murdering spree?! I'm no pacifist, but I-"
No wait wait WAIT! It's not just that! Wait for a bit!
"Um?"
Not good, not good!
Tablet, any other alternative ways to gain EXP for pets?
[You could let it undergo training or find materials that would help. Mana crystals could be converted too.]
I quickly floated Tablet out for Sheepy to see.
"Mana crystals huh?" it said. "Well, I'm not fully convinced by what you're saying, but I think I do know a place nearby that we could find them in."
Really? That's great!
"I want proof right now, so I'm going to lead you there."
That sucks. I sort of wanted to try some of the human food with the cash I finally earned.
Sheepy stepped out and did a bit of walking. Shortly after, it decided to hop back in.
"On second thought, I think I'll rest here for a bit more."
Aha! It was worn out from all the running!
Yes yes, just sleep in here for a while.
I felt slightly excited at the prospect of finally having some actual good food! Eating more bushes? To hell with that!
