19. Wolf And Sheep

Reluctantly, Sheepy stopped attacking the wolves after a bit of convincing on my part. I asked it to drag the wolves closer though.

Sheepy bit viciously into them and dragged them carelessly across the ground. They whined as their coats and wounds got coated in mud. Poor wolves.

The big wolf barked angrily but didn't summon anything for some reason. Weird. Was it afraid we would hurt the wolves if it did anything drastic?

I sent a contract to one of the wolves.

[Contract]

Become my companion.

This contract is only made for healing your wounds and will heal you the moment you accept, so please don't reject it.

You can cancel it at any moment but it will automatically be cancelled in 5 seconds.

It stared at me with eyes of suspicion for a few moments.

[Contract Accepted]

Instantly, all the wounds started to patch up. The wolf looked shocked. As the last of the wounds closed up, it stood up and howled.

"Awooooo!"

"Wait, why did you heal that scumbag?" Sheepy seemed confused.

Who was the scumbag here?

Just wait, you'll see why.

[Contract Expired]

By now, Biggie seemed to have calmed down with its runes no longer glowing. It still seemed very cautious though, which I found quite understandable. If I were in its shoes, I would be suspecting ulterior motives too.

Welp, guess I'll send another contract to the Biggie.

[Contract]

Become my companion.

This contract is only made so that we can communicate, you can cancel it at any time.

I want to discuss something with you.

[Contract Accepted]

Whoa, that was quick! It didn't even take a few seconds to decide!

"Greetings. What do you wish to discuss?" the wolf said in a surprisingly regal voice.

Uh... uh...

Crap, I was a bit off guard due to surprise.

I want you to help me with something. In exchange, we will heal your other friend! And we promise not to bother you or your other friends again!

"I see... So, to ask for me for a favour, you came to my home, insult us, assault my kin and now threaten me with their lives?"

Oh.

Well, that was awkward... I only came to help "avenge Sheepy's family" and get some EXP. How the heck was I supposed to even explain this?

As I panicked inwardly, the wolf sighed and started talking again. I was very relieved that I didn't have to come up with an explanation.

"Very well. What do you request of me?"

Wait, let me heal your friend first.

I quickly sent another contract to the second injured wolf.

[Error. Pet limit reached]

What?

[Your current pet limit is 2. Level up the Tamer class to increase it.]

Urgh... I guess I'll figure out how to level the class up later. For now, I still had to discuss with the wolf.

[Contract Cancelled]

I cancelled the contract with the Biggie and healed the other injured wolf with the contract. Biggie looked very confused and barked a few times, probably asking why I cancelled the contract with it. It looked relieved that both wolves were now fine though. They hid meekly behind me, hiding from the ferocious sheep.

I guess now's a good time to make a more suited contract anyway.

[Contract]

Become my companion.

Help me out with something!

I swear that me and the sheep won't hurt your friends and family anymore.

You can't cancel it yourself, but it will automatically be over in 2 days and I might release you early.

Deal?

This time, the wolf mused over it for a bit longer.

[Contract accepted]

"Very well, a contract not to hurt us will suffice. What is it you ask of me?"

----------------------------------------

I ran over a stone wolf back and forth a few times. It crumbled into pieces, its mouth making a silent howl.

[+121 EXP]

[Level up! +1 Stat Point. HP refilled.]

Sheepy rammed hard into a stone wolf with its horns. It shattered into pieces violently. Did that seriously not hurt? Sheepy looked unfazed and continued to destroy more stone wolves.

[Sheepy has levelled up!]

[STR 6 -> 7]

"Whoa! I feel even stronger again! Awesome!"

Meanwhile, Biggie continued to summon the wolves. It sucked on a mana crystal it took from its den earlier. I was reminded of a baby sucking a pacifier.

"May I ask, why do you ask this of me? I do not think it is from bloodlust towards our kind. For if that were the case, killing us would sate more than pale imitations of stone." Biggie said after spitting out the crystal to talk. "I apologise for asking, but I could not hold back my curiosity."

Did it really have to keep talking like that?

It makes us stronger.

"Idiot!" shouted Sheepy. "You're not supposed to tell him, he's still an enemy!"

Pfft, only in Sheepy's eyes. I really wished we could convince the wolf to join us but with how protective it was of its friends, I didn't think that would be likely. Speaking of which, I realised I should probably ask it what actually happened.

Hey, about th-

"It sounds impossible. I do not understand."

"Yes, it's not possible! Don't mind the monster, its just speaking bullshit!" said Sheepy.

Okay, anyway, what happened with the sheep? I was told by it that you wolves killed its family.

"Hey! I'm a he, not an it! And don't listen to the wolf, he's full of lies!"

The wolf seemed stunned for a moment. Then it laughed heartily.

"The vile curl dares accuse us! Very well, I shall tell you the tale truthfully." it glared at the sheep with hate in its eyes.

"He's a liar!" Sheepy yelled, seeming a little panicked.

"But first, I request that you change our contract to void me of lies, lest I be struck down."

So much confidence from the wolf. I knew it! Sheepy was lying about his family getting killed!

Hey Tablet, is it possible to force the pet not to lie with the contract?

[It is allowed.]

Nice.

I quickly changed the contract so that Biggie couldn't lie. I didn't put anything as dramatic as being "struck down" in the contract though. How would that work anyway? I just put that it couldn't speak lies, which was more than enough.

"One winter, us wolves heard of news most dreadful. A horrific beast, a wrenched dragon chanced upon our forests! We left our humble abode and ran for our lives."

"He's lying!" Sheepy shouted.

"When we returned years later, we found a sheep most foul had taken residence!"

"Lies! That cave was mine all along!"

"My kin asked kindly for him to leave. But the scum, oh, he viciously attacked them! When I arrived, many of my innocent kin were lying on the ground. I drove the demon away! And now the disgusting vermin dares slander us? After he caused us so much harm?"

By now, the wolf was burning with rage. What the heck was wrong with Sheepy?

"No! He is lying!"

I literally gave it a contract that made it unable to lie! If you aren't lying, then add that to your contract and tell me the truth!

Sheepy looked panicked. But after a few moments, it seemed to have come to a conclusion.

"Fine. Fineee! I will also have the not lying whatever rule too, okay? I might not have been completely honest, but that wolf is making me sound like I was a lot worse!"

I added the rule to Sheepy's contract too.

"You know, I found this great abandoned cave one day! And after living there happily for a year, suddenly some dumb wolves tell me it has been their home for years! Would you believe them?"

Well... I guess maybe that sounds a bit fishy?

"I mean, I had a hunch they were lying, but think about it! If you lived in a place for so long and someone tried to kick you out, would you be happy? Of course I told them to get lost!"

"That warrants the assault on my kin?"

"They threatened to bite me! It was se- seflf- sef- defes- defen-" Sheepy realised it couldn't say it out. "Fine! I got angry and attacked them first! But I didn't even hurt them that badly!"

"Euoth and Kuth told me they generously offered you a fee to leave! And you stil-"

"No! That's a lie! They did not!"

"What? My kin would not lie to me!"

"Well, APPARENTLY THEY DID! I'm literally can't lie right now!"

"My contract REQUESTS OF ME NOT TO LIE AS WELL!"

"THAT DOESN'T-"

SHUT UP!

The two stopped arguing and stared at me.

From what I can see, you two are just arguing over a misunderstanding. Sheepy, I can see why you fought but you went too far earlier with those wolves. Also, you should not have lied to me about your family. And... uh... big wolf, just because you think your friends won't lie to you doesn't mean they didn't. You two should just appologise to each other and get it over with?

"Absolutely not! I will not seek forgiveness from scum that wrongs us!"

"You're the scumbag!"

Immediately, the two began squabbling again. Why? It's already obviously a misunderstanding, so couldn't we just go back to farming?

Urgh, why did I have to open my dumb mouth earlier and ask what happened?
