A small bullet hole appeared on the back of the dungeon boss’ dragon-like head, on the front was a gaping hole. Blood spurted everywhere and painted the room red, all you could hear was a bang and an intense ringing sound followed shortly after, everything else was unintelligible.
“Wh– th- -ck!!”
“Ah?!” I shouted, wondering what Jeremy had to say.
“WHA- T– –CK”
“WHAT?”
“WHAT THE FUCK!” The ringing had mostly subsided. I could figure out what he was saying now if we were shouting
“THAT’S A GUN, FUN, AIN’T IT!”
“DEFINITELY, BUT LET’S GET YOU OUT OF HERE, YOU LOOK LIKE SHIT.”
The system recovery was already working its magic, I could talk fine but I still felt like shit, and my HP bar indicated so, flashing red. Jeremy picked me up over his shoulder and dropped me down abruptly.
“Wait one second, these shards are worth 2XP each, I’ll take a little while, alright? If you’re bleeding, just hold it in.” He walked back and took the giant sling the kobold had and tied it around his neck, it looked more like a basket next to a person of normal size, he started grabbing these shiny purple shards until the basket overflowed, he had to hug them to keep em’ all in, but he managed.
By the time he was finished grabbing every last shard, I was healthy enough to stand on my own two feet.
I leveled up twice from that ordeal, definitely worth it, even if I did have to waste a bullet. Maybe there's a guy in the speakeasy who could reverse-engineer the gun and fill in the missing gaps required to make it functional, i.e, the bullet.
I’m judging this world is roughly medieval so there is a chance that people could have gunpowder, but I’m not sure whether it’s widespread at all, if people knew of the recipe, I’d probably be seeing a lot more explosions.
We went back to the speakeasy in one piece and went to the bunk bed room to divvy up our XP shards.
Over the course of a few more minutes I was feeling considerably better, my health was in the yellow instead of the red, and I no longer felt as if I was gonna die, which was a win in my books.

After divvying them all up, we ended up with 200xp each. Cracking em’ open and drinking whatever liquid was inside them took quite a while, by the time we were done the room was full of discarded crystals and my health was back in the green, standing at around 80% full.
Today was a great success, I had Jeremy and I had leveled up twice and I had also finally figured out how much the XP requirement per level increased, it started from 100, then went to 200, then it started adding the last 2 XP requirements together for the new one. So if my calculations were correct, Jeremy had a requirement of 1300.
There wasn’t much else to do today, I wanted to have a big long rest, drink beer for the first time without the risk of getting in trouble with the police, and just hang out with these people. I barely knew them yet they were doing so much for us. Mole made a path to a training facility to prepare us for the dungeon boss and Kashubian made Jeremy a bow, free of charge.
I needed to get to know these people, but first, sleepy time. I don’t know why but I was sleeping a lot, I guess I’ve just never exerted myself as I have in this world, all of it was mentally and physically draining even if I could regenerate all of my health in an hour.
Oh wait, I need to take these crystals out, I don’t wanna make a mess.

Okay, now I was finally- finally done with this day, I’m just gonna lay down, and…
-
I woke up from a perfect slumber, I slowly got up, tossing and turning so that I could go back to sleep, but it never came to be, so I just accepted it and got up.
I rubbed my eyes and made my way to the kitchen to prepare the team a meal, I saw Triff, the ogrish man from before walk up, but I knew he was gonna serve something that tasted worse than dogshit, so I got to work instead.
“What you getting up to over there.” An unfamiliar man approached the countertop.
“Ah, I’m making some chicken noodle soup, who are you?”
“I’m a new recruit, the name’s Billy, how do you do?”
“I’m doing alright, just cleared out a dungeon yesterday and now I’m level 6, I’ve been skyrocketing ever since I joined these guys. Where did you come from?” I asked
“I was supposed to be a baker, I had to knead dough constantly so they wanted me to upgrade my strength and vitality, they sent me to a training facility and the Mole picked me up yesterday, can’t really deny an offer like this, can I. The Empire’s always on everyone’s ass and we need to make a difference.”
“Yep, if you wanna make a difference I suggest training up, there’s a trail with some goblins if you ain’t too far from your next level up, Mole took me to some other training facility to prepare me for a dungeon. All sorts of stuff you can do to get better, just don’t overwork yourself, you start to get bad thoughts.”
“Alright then, I’ll see what I can do with your advice, see you in a bit, alright?”
“Seeya.”
