With the Gnoll King’s second death, I decided to look over to my character sheet, to see that I was just barely off getting a new level.
That wasn’t all too bad though, 1213/1300 could be easily made up for, a quick trip to the hole of the warrior-assigned training facility could help me out in that regard, if mole hadn’t already filled it up.
Y’know, it’s been a while since I’ve entered this world. Actually, it had only been about a week, but there was a lot going on, yet I hadn’t seen any magic in action, although this was a world where I would never doubt magic is present.
Maybe I’ll ask Kashubian about that, nah, he’s busy, I’ll probably just ask Mole or Garrick.
I picked up the Gnoll King’s flail and gave it a few swings in the air, it pulled me along quite a bit, I needed to increase my strength if I had any chance of using this thing effectively.
That’s probably not a good idea, increasing strength was good but for the sake of an item that seemed like it wasn’t made for someone like me, I’ll just wait for the sword and see what stat needs increasing while I swing that around.
I started sprinting over to the speakeasy, and that was when I saw a peculiar little message.
[You have increased your Vitality stat by 1 through natural means]
[500 XP rewarded]
[You are now level 8, you have 9 stat points to allocate]
I was carrying quite the stockpile, but then again, I’d rather wait for my sword and then invest it than become strong quicker.
But that wasn’t the only thing that levelling up brought to my attention, it also taught me that I could increase the strength of stats without the help of the system, I could read books and play chess and complete puzzles to increase my mind, I could battle and run and move around to increase my stamina or speed, I could lift heavy things and put them down to increase strength, the possibilities are endless.
When I finally reached the speakeasy, I saw Kashubian hard at work trying to recreate whatever was supposed to fit inside the magazine of the gun.
I let him do his thing and walked up to Mole, who was sipping on some ice tea.
“Yes?” He asked.
“Does magic exist?”
You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.
“Yeah.”
I did not doubt him for a second.
“Why haven’t I ever seen it?” I asked. I’ve certainly seen supernatural things, but I couldn’t really call it ‘Magic’ per se.
“You have, When I rolled that ball up, I used my strength in conjunction with my innate earth magic to make sure it was sturdy. When I make my tubes, I shape the earth with my magic.”
“Innate, is that because you’re a mole?”
“Yeah.” He said simply.
“Makes sense, how do I get magic?” I asked, now that I knew for sure that magic existed, I needed to know where I could get it.
“Well, you need to find what type of magic you want, you go through the ordeals and then you can start manipulating it.”
“What type of magic is there? What would suit me?”
“A good choice for anyone would be Silence magic, if you increase your magic stats well enough you can take magic out of the picture whenever you fight someone who specialises in that sort of thing, you silence their magic.” I nodded.
“It really depends what build you’re going for.” He added on. “If you lean towards strength you might prefer Battery Magic or Muscle magic, there was a book somewhere that detailed what types of magic there were, but it probably got burned along with the libraries.”
“Who did that?” I asked.
“The Dunas Empire, they burned every library during their conquest, they didn’t want the population knowledgeable enough to consider revolting.”
“Ah, but not that book.” One of the twins said, walking up to us two, having heard that conversation. “Our clan kept records of important books such as those when we heard about the Dunas Empire burning the libraries down, we have a few copies and we don’t mind lending one to like-minded people like you.”
“Oh, that’s just perfect.” Mole said. “Yeah, lend us that book, that’ll help a lot with newer recruits, they can make their selection and then angle their build towards that.”
I smiled, who knew I would’ve gotten so lucky that these guys would’ve joined, first of all, they were heavy hitters, they matched up with Triff who was among the strongest here, and now they have access to books that were supposed to be gone forever.
“Hey, Mole, what’s with you and the circle of heavy hitters in the group.”
“?”
“Y’know, Garrick, Kashubian, You, Triff. How come you all just happen to be the strongest people here?”
“Ah, well, I was born underground, and there are quite a few underground dungeons, so I just kept cycling through those until it stopped giving me enough XP. I know Garrick has fought in a few wars, and those make you crazy strong, he’s definitely the one with the highest level here. Kasubian was stuck in a bullywug dungeon for 2 years before an earthquake allowed him to escape, and I don’t really know about Triff to be honest.”
“Thanks a lot Mole, I’ll have to read over that book and consider what type of magic I get, and I have 9 free points available so I need to figure out what to do with that once Garrick gets me a sword.” He nodded and continued sipping on his beer, I made my way to the beds and slept like a baby.
