I finished up the book and sat down for a few moments, just to make sure I had fully absorbed what had just happened.
I got smited by the gods, is this common, can you die from it?
The book said something about praying to your god of choice, does that include gods from my world, does the one I pray to have any effect on how potent my magic is? Which god was the strongest? What if I chose the weakest one out of all em’?
To save myself from a headache, I’ll just consider every god equal until I do have to make a choice, and hopefully I make the best decision.
There might be some more interesting info in this tiny library, if this library was detected by the empire and then dealt with, there would need to be people to remember it, the people of the village may have people who remember these books, but I’m not a part of their community, if they get eradicated at least I’m still here.
The next book I started was called ‘A History of the Modern World’ It wasn’t exactly a fun read, it was very monotonous and straight to the point, but it did give some useful insights Such as:
The Dunas Empire is only 200 years old, the other countries surrounding it were thousands if not tens of thousands of years old.
The Dunas Empire were the first to cultivate magic, that was how they were able to become an empire, without it they’d just be another rowdy nation state hellbent on being the ones to rule the world. World didn’t seem like the right word, there was only one continent mentioned, the world map included 2 other continents, but the only one they focused on was the continent of Taurus.
The book showed only some of the Dunas’ Empires growth, the military strategies they used, propaganda and the decisions all the other nations made in response.
I would continue reading later, the book was boring but I felt a responsibility to take on this knowledge in case Dunas’ Empire burned all this down.
I said this before, this library was nothing in comparison to any library in my world, but there were still quite a few books, I could try devoting my life for the next few weeks reading all this, but that would stagnate my growth, which is bad because I need to help take down the empire, and I need to be strong to defend that knowledge.
I grabbed a random goblin knife in my pocket, gripped it hard and bent the blade off. I did get some light cuts but I was used to the pain, I slipped the handle into whatever page I was on and went on my way, hopefully Garrick had my sword for me when I came back.
This text was taken from Royal Road. Help the author by reading the original version there.
I stood up and slotted the book back in place, I exited and noticed that the moon was starting to ascend, and the sun disappeared along the horizon.
Did that much time really pass, damn, alright.
I started my jog towards the speakeasy, I didn’t rely on the old marks this time, I knew the way and had no issue going there at all.
I arrived just before the sun completely disappeared from view, people were getting ready for bed and I saw a big ass sword on my bed, I chuckled and walked over to it, looking at it closely. I did not know how to appraise a sword but it looked shiny. I dragged my fingernail over the edge to see how sharp it was and god damn, it was sharp.
I stowed it under my bed and let out a great big stretch, reading for all that time did make my neck and back really uncomfortable.
I laid down and before I knew it I was already asleep.
-
Sleeping was easier in this world, probably because I had to exert myself instead of eating noodles all day and sleeping.
The routine back in the old world was simple. Wake up, go to a lecture after approximately 12 minutes and 57 seconds of sleep, collapse mid-lecture and ask all my classmates for their notes.
While I still much preferred the old world, I was a much better person here, I slept at a good time, I exerted myself.
Not sure how my personality changed, but people don’t really notice those things, do they?
I took the sword from under my bed and walked out of the room, I did the usual routine of making breakfast while everyone woke up, waited for everyone to finish their food and went outside.
I started swinging my sword outside, I had pretty decent control over it, I decided where it went, it didn’t pull me along, but I did have to sacrifice putting any sizeable amount of power into my blows, so I started gradually increasing strength.
First point in, and I already saw improvements, but it wasn’t the correct stat to allocate it in, I could throw stronger, but I was still holding back as much as I was before.
That was a job for Mind to fix, I needed the correct technique and balance, or maybe I already had enough mind, I just needed to acquire my Swordsmanship skill, and maybe then my stats would come into effect. That at least gave me answers to an old question I had when I stole one of the Kobold’s sling, mind only took effect when I had the skill associated with whatever I’m trying to do.
I put the rest of my stats into strength, raising it to a jaw dropping 18, I swung the sword and it let out the greatest whoosh sound I’ve ever heard, in an instant I became stronger than any human to ever live, my shirt started to rip with the sudden muscle growth. For some reason this reminded me of the foreman, he could see my every stat increase, I knew for sure that he had gobbled up quite a few pinky fingers over his career, but he would definitely keep track of the stat sheet of the man who had successfully ran away.
Hopefully mole hid his tracks, it would be a pain in the ass if Rath Tuk figured out our location, a lethal pain in the ass if Garrick wasn’t present.
