Flail

“Phew.” I said, the foreman got stopped in the nick of time.

“He’s just gonna slide back, don’t worry.” Mole said. “While he’s enjoying his ride back I’ll get to work filling this hole properly, the ball was just improvisation.”

Mole slammed his leg forward and the boulder of dirt got sent rolling down a hill, this guy had such unimaginable strength yet looked so tiny and unthreatening. If Garrick is of similar standing to Rath Tuk where they control a whole compound, and Garrick is strong enough to leas these people, then I can only just imagine how much I’d have to go through to get to their level.

I remembered that I needed something from Garrick, but first I’d need to get my hands on a pen and paper.

“Mole, do pens and paper exist in this world. Or pencils at least.”

“Yes, they do, what do you need it for?”

“Garrick works in the forges so I want to sketch something up for him, see if he can get it for me.”

“He’s not all that generous, he already has tonnes of stuff to do, but you can give it a go if you really want, pens and paper are in his office.”

I nodded and walked over to Garrick’s office, Triff and one of the new twins were still arm-wrestling, faces red and and their arms shaking the slightest bit back and forth, but they primarily stayed in the middle. The other twin was praying in the corner.

I walked over the two arm wrestling on the floor to get to Garrick’s office.

“What do you need?”

“A pen and paper, I was hoping you could do something for me, I don’t mind doing a favor for you as long as you can get me what I draw.”

He pushed aside his mountain of paperwork and rustled inside his drawers, getting a pen and paper.

“Quick.” He ordered, I grabbed the pen and started drawing the general shape and look of a katana, I had no idea what all the parts were, how long it needed to be, all that stuff, but I managed to get it looking like a katana.

“This.”

“Let me tell you something.” He paused for a moment, then continued. “I have to sign an agreement with every knight who has a compound that produces molds for things go into any forge, when I get every single one of those many people to agree to have this design, they’ll bring it up to the Paladin who controls all of those people, the Paladin approves it and brings it up with all the Paladins in the metalworks industry, if all of those people agree, then the Paragon who controls that entire industry may accept that mold.”

I stood there in shock, this level of bureaucracy was simply out of this world.

“So what favor can you possibly do that will satisfy me enough to get that done for you?”

Nothing, the process was too long and arduous, nothing could get done, there was too many moments where it could all get shut down, and then Garrick had to try again.

“But, I can just get you a regular old sword.” He said, switching his very stern expression into something a little more positive.

“Oh, that’ll do then, what can I do for that?”

“Make me some of that lasagna the other members were rattling on about, I didn’t have the opportunity to eat it, I was doing work at the forge.

Oh, that was surprising, I thought I had to recruit 5 people or fetch a lost family heirloom, yeah, I can cook lasagna.

I smiled and walked off, ready to recieve my sword, it wouldn’t be the one I wanted, but I would accept it gracefully, who doesn’t want to swing a giant blade around with reckless abandon, I only have a tiny blade and a mace.

I went to the kitchen and realised the ingredients had been delivered during my short vacation to the scrapyard, I got to work and in no time it was done, the most physically intensive part of cooking lasagna was kneading the dough but with my improved strength, time went by much faster and the dough was done before I even knew it, I just had to set it while cooking up the bolongese, and then I had to assemble it all for Garrick’s lasagna.

I brought over the whole tray of lasagna to Garrick, I didn’t know how much this guy ate, so I played it safe.

He pick up his fork and starting diving in, finishing all of the lasanga in an astounding 2 minutes.

“Holy shit kid, you can cook.” He said, and the system agreed, awarding me with 1 more level in [Cooking IV] putting it to V.

“Yeah, I’ll get you that sword, there is still some bureaucracy involved but being a knight gives me some slight leeway. Thanks for the lasanga.”

I nodded and walked back to one of the twins nearly pinning Triff’s arm to the floor, they may be of equal strength but the twin probably had more vitality.

Now for the last thing I needed to do today. I walked outside and saw Kashubian messing with whatever pieces of metal I threw away, that was good, I’m not sure what took place when creating a bullet but I’m sure Kashubian was talented enough to do that.

I turned around and ran through a path of marked trees, eventually reaching the entrance of the dungeon. I was gonna get the Gnoll kings flail.
