Chapter 7: Beware of the Death Knight

Scepticus looked at the death knight. He could feel something ominous about it. Something different. Before giving him any more time to think, the death knight charged at Scepticus. It slammed into a rock in the shape of a spike impaling Scepticus through his stomach.

Without giving him time to react the death knight charged at Scepticus again. Scepticus used Hell’s Pyre which bought him enough time to get himself out from the rock. Although the death knight was burning it was burning very slowly. Scepticus increased the burning rate but there was still no difference.

Scepticus tried to kick himself away from the wall. Suddenly he felt a gush of pain coming from his stomach. That made him stop before he could accomplish anything. Scepticus also dropped his sword because of the gush of pain. “Come on, when is that passive skill gonna activate?” Scepticus pleaded.

As soon as he said those words, he noticed his regeneration taking a massive spike and if he was given a few seconds the hole in his stomach would be healed. “It activated,” Scepticus said in a burst of joy. The death knight started charging at him again. This time Scepticus managed to dodge the attack albeit barely.

Scepticus picked up a rock and threw it onto the death knight’s face with most of his strength. It managed to make a small dent in its armour but that was it. “Damn, looks like I am still weak compared to back then” said Scepticus.

Scepticus tried cooking up a plan but he wasn’t given any time to think. The death knight kept on attacking him relentlessly. While Scepticus was running, he noticed another spike like the one that had impaled him. It’s just that this one was a lot bigger. It was also made out of magnetite.

Scepicus knew this because when he was a lot younger in his previous life he used to be fascinated by rocks.

He knew the spike was the key to his victory but he didn’t know how to lure the death knight without any harm coming to him. That’s when he remembered that magnetite was magnetic. The death knight had metal armour so theoretically, it could get stuck on the spike. There was just one thing Scepticus was worried about. Could the spike handle the death knight’s physical prowess? Well, it was all he had so he had to try.

Whilst dodging the death knight’s annoying and constant attacks, he moved closer and closer to the magnetite spike. As soon as he was close enough though, the death knight was pulled into the spike and it couldn’t get out. “Phew, at least that worked,” Scepticus said.

He then noticed his hand was empty. He then looked back at the magnetite spike to see that his shortsword was stuck on the magnetite spike and was within striking range of the death knight. “OH COME ON!! I lost the one weapon which I actually had. Great!” Scepticus complained.

He then said “I must say though. ‘Masochism’s benefit’ was the only reason I even had a chance at surviving”. ‘Masochism’s benefit’ is a skill in which the more pain the caster feels the faster he heals. Although it could be useful, too much pain will make the caster enter a state of berserk in which the longer he is berserk the harder he is to kill and stop the berserk.

Scepticus then scratched his finger against one of the rocks again and dropped blood onto the black card. He then looked at his stats. “Strength:60, Stamina: 60, Health: 45, Agility: 45 and Magic: 55. Hmm. The stats increased quite decently,” Scepticus said.

Suddenly a zombie dog pounced on him. Scepticus punched it and another red orb fell out. A projection of Nick appeared again. “OII YOU. WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY DEATH KNIGHT?! WHY ISN’T IT RESPONDING TO MY COMMANDS,” Screamed Nick. Scepticus stomped on the red orb. “You don’t just talk to me when you want to N-I-C-K,” said Scepticus.
