Chapter 30: A Warning from Serbius

Chapter 30: A Warning from Serbius

“CIVILIAN, GET OUT OF HERE NOW!” one of the cavalry men yelled out as the frog demon grabbed him and then proceeded to swallow him. The frog demon was about 15 metres tall and had multiple spider eyes. It had pale red skin with a couple of crimson red stripes. Its tongue looked more like that of a snake’s and it had a lot of daggers in its mouth which acted as teeth. “Good grief,” Scepticus said as he pointed to the frog and then pushed his finger down. Suddenly an unknown force pushed down everything in a 100 metre region, ultimately killing the frog although it killed a few of the cavalry-men as well. “This is a dream right?” the surviving cavalry men said to each other. “A demonic beast… WIPED OUT IN ONE ATTACK?” they all yelled and began to rejoice Scepticus. Scepticus yelled to them, “Get out of my way you pests,” as they all froze in place before they all laid in pieces on the floor around him. Scepticus then picked out an eyeball from the corpses which laid on the floor and began playing with it, before throwing it directly at the prince from about 100 metres.

The prince, who had caught the eyeball whilst running away with his men, looked back and saw a massacre along with the frog standing up behind Scepticus. “YOU FUCKING FROG. WHY DID YOU THROW MY MEN’S EYEBALL AT ME?”. Scepticus yelled out, “YEAH RUN… AND DON’T BOTHER ME AGAIN,” before noticing a giant shadow in front of him. “Oh… SO YOU SCARED THEM AWAY HUH LIL’ FROG SHIT,” he yelled before punching the frog causing it to explode. “Oh right, I almost forgot that I have to destroy your core,” Scepticus said as the frog began shooting out the daggers in it’s mouth as Scepticus. Scepticus grabbed his sword and swung it in a circular motion in front of him once before all the daggers were sent flying towards the frog, hitting it. It squealed out in pain as it unfurled its tongue grabbing Scepticus whilst smiling. Scepticus just smiled back before chanting ‘Desolate Destruction’.

The frog suddenly felt as if the whole world went silent. It was confused, unable to move or do anything. Suddenly it heard a whistle come from above it and then it was hit by something. It’s body began to get incinerated as well as be crushed before it finally gained access to move and saw it’s dead corpse under a massive rock about 100 metres wide. The remaining area surrounding the rock was completely and utterly fine as if nothing had happened and the rock had just been a part of the terrain. Scepticus then laughed a bit, “Heh heh. How good it feels to finally have access to level 4 combination magic,” he said as he pulled out the card, slit his finger and looked at the level of his magic. Only his wind magic and fire magic were level 4 but it was a start. Scepticus then went to check on Celaine to see that she was fine. He quickly undid the ropes and began travelling home, before arriving on an open plain right next to a forest. Scepticus then heard a rustle from a bush as he then felt a blade press against his shoulder and a familiar voice chimed out, “You should always be ready for a surprise attack, student,” the voice said. “Ah master, I was wondering when you would arrive,” Scepticus told Serbius. “We don’t have time for chit-chat though student. Something urgent has come up,” he said. “Hmm… What is it?” Scepticus asked. “Ever heard of the Cult of The One?” Serbius questioned Scepticus.

Scepticus was cracking his brain since the name sounded awfully familiar, before remembering that teacher whom he had killed. “Yeah I believe so,” Scepticus said, surprising Serbius a little. “Ok that makes things easier. They are on the move,” he said. “So what’s brewing,” Scepticus asked Serbius. “The One… His true resurrection is almost complete,” Serbius muttered with genuine fear. Scepticus also looked at the floor slightly worried. “Well we better go and stop it then…” he said, “How long till his true resurrection?”. “About 2 days and it’ll take about a day to get there so we only have a day to wrap this shit up,” Serbius said. “Shit. This is a bit problematic. From what I remember the cult’s forces weren’t weak. Well at this point we’re just wasting time. Let’s go,” Scepticus said as he began to run alongside Serbius. “You’ve grown stronger already, student. You can now probably somewhat handle my speed,” Serbius complimented Scepticus who nodded.

They ran non-stop for about 6 hours slightly below the sound barrier before Scepticus’ legs gave way, requiring Serbius to carry him. They eventually reached the place where the cult had been residing just on the brink of time. It was an abandoned town which was near to a gold mine. Serbius had already scouted out the area in advance so he had a rough idea on where everything was and said that the cult should be hiding in the gold mine somewhere although he wasn’t too sure where as he was rushing for time. They needed to prevent this disaster from resurrecting. Serbius quickly entered the mines with Scepticus and they took out all the small fries until they met a tall man with long brown hair. As soon as Serbius had tried to cut the man who was still in a relaxed pose with his hands holding each other behind his back, a scorpion tail appeared from the man, completely blocking the attack. “Shit. We already got a cardinal,” Scepticus said.
