Chapter 12: Encounter of Importance and Intrigue

Scepticus continued walking, checking out all the spots where people could hide to check and see if they were okay. Rick was following behind him with a very nervous look in his eyes. “So… Are you really, Devlin?” Rick asked. “What do you think?” Scepticus asked back. Rick didn't give a response. Scepticus noticed an aura hiding in a corner. He approached and saw a girl who was looking at the sky, lost in thought. She had relatively short white hair with bangs which reached just above her eyebrows. She had cyan eyes. Scepticus approached the girl to ask if she was okay and was blasted backwards by an unknown force. “What the hell… You good there girl?” he asked. “Huh… Yeah I’m fine. Why?” she replied, snapping out of her trance.

“How are you still fine? That bloodlust was terrifying” said Scepticus. “Huh? What bloodlust? What does that even mean-”the girl said before noticing who she was talking to. “Devlin… Is that you?” she asked. “Who do you think I am then?” Scepticus questioned back. After hearing this she started blushing. “Sorry about that. I tend to get a bit carried away with my daydreams…” she stuttered. “That’s bloody weird. What do you see in them?” Scepticus asked. “I can’t really describe them. But I can show them” she said. She touched Scepticus forehead and then Scepticus' vision distorted and when it returned to normal all he saw was red. And lots of bones. Lots and lots of them. They were slightly curled protruding out of the ground and were as big as thousands of metres and as small as 2-3 metres. “This place feels familiar…” Scepticus mumbled to himself.

At that moment a booming voice started talking, “WHO ARE THOU AND WHY HAS THY HOST BROUGHT THEM?” the voice asked. “First of all, let me get these things straight. I have absolutely no idea why the hell this girl brought me here. Secondly, I am under no obligation to answer your question. And thirdly I don’t even know this girl” Scepticus said. Then a figure appeared in a puff of black smoke. He had spiky hair which was mainly black with one tuft of it being white. He had long slender arms that were covered by bandages. And his feet were entirely black with some parts of it chipping out with the parts hovering around him.

His face had a smirk and had a bandage on his left cheek and black wings which sprouted out of his back giving a similar effect to his legs. He started hovering towards Scepticus. “ASMODEUS?!?” Scepticus exclaimed. “How in hell do you know my name?” the demon asked back. “Let’s get talking. Separate the girl from us” Scepticus said. “Ahhh… What was it that you said again… ‘I am under no obligation to answer you’....” Asmodeus retorted. “I see. Fine. I have an idea though. We can fight and if I win you separate us from the girl and we talk. If I lose I’ll answer all of your questions… in front of the girl” Scepticus said, “Also grab out the contract, so we can’t break our sides of the deal”.

“Oh, so you know about the contract? What an interesting fellow. I declare you the most interesting person in a couple of centuries!” he said with his hands adjusting the black crown on his head. Asmodeus grabs the contract. It is a parched piece of black paper with the sides wrinkling away. “Your blood, child” Asmodeus said. Scepticus asked for a knife which was provided for by Asmodeus. Scepticus poked his finger quite hard and a small drop of blood was dropped onto the scroll. Asmodeus took a dagger which looked like a relic and then poked his finger and a drop of black liquid was dropped onto the paper.

The paper then started hovering and then a red satan logo appeared on top of it and began to spin. It then sucked the contract inside as the red satan logo disappeared in a puff of black smoke. “The contract has been made. Now shall we dance?” he said whilst holding his hand out, signalling Scepticus to start attacking. Scepticus then created a string with Hell’s Pyre and quietly hid it in his coat. He imagined a greatsword in his hand and then it appeared in his hand. “Man, is this skill handy…” said Scepticus.

Scepticus charged at Asmodeus slowly untangling the coil and did his attacks like normal. Asmodeus was deflecting the attacks casually. Scepticus began to slowly circle Asmodeus as got knocked back a few times. Scepticus eventually got punched through the stomach and flung away. “SHIT!” he said while coughing blood. “So is this the end kid?” Asmodeus asked sarcastically. “Nope, not even close” Scepticus said while pulling up the coil. “Good fight I guess” Scepticus said whilst casting a spell which rewinded the coil causing the strings to cut up Asmodeus. Asmodeus shrieked after feeling pain for the first time in a long time. “YOU, YOU INSOLENT BASTARD!” Asmodeus cried out. “I would recommend you look at what the strings are made of. Asmodeus noticed it carefully. “SHIT! HOW THE HELL DO YOU KNOW THIS SPELL?!” he asked Scepticus. “Probably because I am Scepticus,” Scepticus replied. Suddenly Asmodeus burst into flames and burnt. Or so Scepticus thought.

Suddenly Scepticus wakes up. “Huh,” he notices Asmodeus there again, signaling him to attack again. Scepticus redid everything he did previously but the battle was different this time as Asmodeus modified the Hell’s Pyre strings to make them hit Scepticus while battling. Scepticus sets ablaze. “You lose,” he said while undoing the fire. “Welp I guess it was a good battle. But what happened I’m still confused” Scepticus said, “I don’t remember you having any skill like that…”. “Remember me? So you’ve met me before?” Asmodeus asked. “Yes, but not in this body and form,” he said. “So you’ve met me in a previous life?” Asmodeus asked. “Not just met… I was your Monarch”. As soon as Asmodeus heard these words his eyes widened and then he said “Master Scepticus?”.
