Chapter 4: Tag Your Well Wishes

Chapter 4

Today is my 4th birthday in my new life. It seems that in this new life I’ve had a better start. This life compared to my old life I've taken many more steps in the right directions. This world seems to be a hybrid of RPG and Real Life.

I’m still wondering about my Special Talent Lucky Clover. I have yet to see how Luck influences anything in my real life? Perhaps if I gamble I’ll win all the time? Or is it just a useless stat?

Nevertheless my new family and I are off to go purchase the Status Tag in the our closest town Paolona. We live on the outskirts of town so today because the whole family is going we are taking our horse drawn cart. It is rather slow progress as the terrain can be rocky at times.

However as I look outside on our way to Paolona I see a great many shops outside, a bookstore, a couple of places for travellers to stay, an eatery even a farmers market where my mother has told me we barter our own crops.

Finally in the center of town we hit the Adventure’s Guild where my father says is the easiest place to buy the Status Tag. As we enter the Guild I’m suddenly hit by the amount of activity that’s in there it almost reminds me of a busy classroom in my past life.

There seemed to be all sorts of people, warriors, rangers, mages even a couple of bards!  There were chairs, tables similarly placed like a tavern and in the center there was a beam holding up the whole building with billboards stuck on littered with requests.

It was rather overwhelming for me having spent the last 4 years isolation with only my parents as company.

As we go up to the counter the old lady greets us and my father fairly warmly.

“Hi Aster and Heather its been a long time,” She spots me, “Ah look at your son, he’s so cute! What can I do for you today?

“Nothing much just want to get our Clover a Status Tag,” replies my father.

“That will be 1 Gold, anything else?”

“No that will be all thanks Greta,” responds my smiling mother.

As we look for a place to sit I notice the Status Tag looks similar to my fathers but seems in a different color.

“Looks like that they’ve tried to make appeal more to the kids now,” remarked my mother, “anyway lets get this Status Tag linked to you.”

Once we got a space my father started describing the process

“First thing’s first, put your thumb on the it, with some of this liquid over here.”

I did as instructed, placing my thumb in this red ink like wax substance and then putting it on top of the blank status tag, “now say Status Tag Link Clover.”

With a little bit of hesitation as to what would happen I spoke, “Status Tag Link Clover!”

Suddenly the tag flashed and smoked, once the smoke had cleared, my Status Tag with all my stats appeared.

The Lucky Clover Special Talent flashed up in mind again, I was no longer able to hold back my curiosity so I ask my parents about it,

“Hey Mom and Dad has anyone ever heard of my Special Talent, the Lucky Clover?”

“No, what does it do?” My mom responded.

“It seems to boost my luck.”

“Wow I’ve never heard of Luck boosting Special Talent. It must be destiny, we named you Clover and your Special Talent is to do with Luck!”

“I’ve never actually understood what Luck does nor how to train it. But I’m sure you’ll put it to good use,” interjected my father.

After the process of getting my very own status my parents decided to celebrate a bit and we celebrated my 4th birthday in the nearby tavern “The Raunchy Boar.”

My father gave me a play sword made of wood with a simple rectangular hilt that he had made himself. Because I was keen to start being able to start sword fighting I asked,

“Can I start learning to use swords from you dad? I’d love to be able to use a sword like you,” adding the last part on the end to perhaps hopefully convince him to teach me by praising him.

“Sorry son, you’ll need to wait until you are at least 5 years and you’ve grown a little more.”

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

“Do you promise when I’m 5 years old I’ll be able to learn to use swords from you?” determined to make some sort of promise to hold my father to

“Sure I promise.”

My mother had also got me present from the nearby bookstore and bought me a book titled, “Sentient Species of Alexandria.”

“I thought you’d like a book like this, you always seem to have nose stuck in our books if you aren’t outside exploring. I’d also noticed that you’d almost read all of ours, if you want you can start buying a few books from the bookstore near our house to read from.”

“Wow thanks mom!” I was so surprised my mother had noticed that I had almost run out of books and the book she’d gave me was a wonderful leather bound book. Filled with diagrams and descriptions it was the perfect thing to keep me occupied.

As soon as we got back I went upstairs and started pouring over the book.

Bastinians

A fur covered people who's ancestry can be traced back to the Wolves. They admire power above all else and have kept their pack mentality. Preferring to stay as a group rather than as separate individuals.

Elves

The so called "Fair Folk," who have the grace and poise that any king and queen would envy to have. They have long lives and will disappear unless they wish to be found. They speak only truth but are masters of twisting truth.

Demons

A group of beings that have intelligence but very little is known about them. They are unable to use Status Tags with most people generally accepting this as proof of their unholy qualities.

Kitsune

A dying breed of humanoid fox creatures who have kept their characteristics tales and ears from their predecessors. They usually are fairly cool and calm. They have been known to be very cunning tricking the unsuspecting passers-by out of sums of money and valuables.

Spyron

An extinct set of dragon people who seem to have disappeared from the face of the earth, rumoured to hold great power and a devastating temper. Not much is known about them as they had all but disappeared when the first human settlers appeared.

I was so intrigued about the species that exist on Alexandria that I completely lost track of time and then suddenly felt incredibly tired. So I fell onto my bed and then checked my status tag and fell asleep.
