Chapter 35: An Experiment

After my short nap I woke up feeling refreshed. We picked up the loot and proof of the kills (in the form of the heads of the spiders) As I was picking up our spoils the discussion with “Greg” the god weighed heavily on my mind. I still wondered why Greg decided to be called Greg.

Foxy was glaring at me a little bit and I assumed she was rather jealous of my relationship with Emi but I decided not to push it. Who knew what could happen if I pushed the issue? Not to mention the issue of her debt? What was her situation? Why was she in trouble? So many questions, I let out a sigh unintentionally and brought out the looks from both Emi and Foxy. I smiled and blushed and looked down as I suddenly was very focused on this particular spider head.

It was the Queen’s head that had been obliterated by my sword Dark it looked completely different as if all the color had been drawn away from it. It looked lifeless and made me sick to the stomach looking at it. I vowed at that moment to stop this Darkness from being uncontrollable again.

We soon gathered up the heads together and turned them into the guild. The people at the Adventurer Guild raised a couple eyebrows as we collected the money from the quest in total we had killed 14 spiders and 1 queen for a grand total of 38 gold pieces. A substantial amount especially for us starting out beginners. Though inconsequential to the cost we had to pay for that horse. That still hurt me thinking about that.

We turned in for the night and nothing memorable happened. The issue of Foxy weighed on my mind but I guess I would have to have a frank talk with her about it as my mind faded to sleep.

I woke up early in the morning after, encouraged by the saying “The early bird gets the worm,” even if quote originated from a person who was renowned as a night owl it still held true. I am determined to control these two swords and be able to protect myself and those I care about.

I walked briskly to an empty patch of grass that was outside of town. I found a spot that had the welcoming morning sun bathing its place so I sat myself there and closed my eyes. If the average passerby from my previous world had seen me they would have assumed I was meditating but I was heavily focused on practicing getting into the Magic World. It still took work to get into the world and to be honest for it to be really of any use it must be something I can slip into.

Therefore I decided that I would practice switching from the normal physical world to the Magic World. I extended out my consciousness to the living things around me and spread around, encompassing everything. Feeling their emotions, thoughts and beliefs. A blanket over the immediate area around me.

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

It was so much information as I opened my eyes I was back into the Magic World. Suddenly everything seemed to make sense. The noise of everyone’s consciousness were now crystal clear. The chaos had somehow become ordered.

The world took on the characteristically blueish glow from the amount of living entities around me. While I wasn’t drawing anything from them I could feel the immense power that was around me. The last time I had drawn from those insects I hadn’t felt that immensity around me. The living energy inside these creatures was clean and pure while what I had drawn from those insects had been clouded.

I moved my scaly body towards one of the larger consciousness around me, a badger who had been burrowing below me. I focused myself on it and tried to understand the badger. The badger was right burrowing for food so I could feel its need for sustenance and food. From this I had an idea, I pushed my energy towards the animal. It seemed to reject the present, luckily the energy seemed to flow back into me. I decided to attempt again, I impressed on the badgers mind this feeling of helpfulness from me, a pure wish to help a fellow living being. I gradually felt the resistance I had initially felt from the animal melted away. I presented the energy again to the animal again and this time it as better received.

While I could feel it had been accepted I could feel that it didn’t trust me who was a complete stranger. I also inference that the distance between the badger and I was also another cause for the problem in giving energy. Perhaps the earth itself was acting like the resistance in an electrical wire? I reached out again to the badger and I had noticed it had moved to the surface and was burrowing towards to me. I switched back to the physical world and was greeted by the snout of the badger who seemed to be peering around for the sudden disturbance in its world.

I directed my thoughts to getting back into the Magic World and reached out for the badger. It seemed to have a positive attitude towards me. We stared at each other in silence perhaps gauging the other party’s opinion. It suddenly reached out its claw and dropped something. It then disappeared underground as quick as it had appeared. I tried to reach out to it but it seemed to have disappeared out of my mental reach.

I redirected my focus to the physical world and saw the badger had given me a present. A gold coin it had probably found in the ground as a reward for the energy I gave to him. I was tired but pretty excited at what I had achieved. I felt the status tag in my pocket glow and I saw a new attribute had been gained on the Skill Mastery Section:
