Chapter 21: Special Talent

Our party decided to have a short break as Foxy had to do things by herself. I believe that perhaps was the reason why she told me her gold plight. I’m guessing that she went off to earn more money than she could with us. I didn’t ask her how or what she was doing as I didn’t really feel it my place to question her circumstances. It didn’t matter much to me, it allowed me to have some nice solo time with Emi like in the old days.

So I decided that I should take Emi out and investigate how our new Special Talent: Innate Magic. Emi and I had talked at length about the Special Talent but neither of us could figure out how or what it did. I had a strong suspicion it was heavily related to magic but in what way? So we decided to try and find out.

Because of the nice amount of money we had earned earlier mainly from killing the goblins, we could spend our time for a bit finding out more about our new Special Talent. We decided to first visit the Magic Scroll Shop but when we asked about Special Talents we were rebuffed and turned away as the shopkeeper said we were taking up his time.

We walked around a bit aimlessly trying to find any indication of our Special Talent but most said they didn’t know and others just flat out threw us out of their shops. By the time we had finished walking around Main Street it was already lunch time so Emi decided that it was her turn to pick a place to eat and she chose a small little shop that served noodles that reminded me of the ramen shops I had eaten before in. These noodles however were closer to pasta and it was served in a rich broth which I could not tell what exactly was in it.

We both enjoyed our meals immensely and I saw Emi’s expression soften as she relaxed a little maybe even forgetting a little bit about Foxy and my bit of covering up. As we were reminiscing and just discussing about what we saw in the city my eyes suddenly were drawn to Emi’s finger which held the ring. Although he did not seemed to be in the Magic business perhaps he would know about supernatural things and the occult. It was worth a shot. I pointed it out to Emi and she agreed it was at least worth a shot.

We arrived at the market where I had bought the ring as it was only a short walk from Main Street. I looked to find his rather outstanding shop I had seen before but I was unable to spot it out. When I asked some of the shop stall owners and described him to them. They denied ever seeing such a person in the market.

I found this rather strange, I had clearly remembered his peculiar look, with his empty on harness on his hip and the glass eyed monocle on his eye. He would be someone that everyone would remember and spot. I pondered this and as Emi fidgeted with her ring, I remembered that the shopkeeper had said something rather peculiar when I had left the shop.

You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story.

He said, “Good day to you and may luck always be on your side.” And winked too… he must have somehow known that I was somehow connected to luck. Otherwise he wouldn’t have said that nor would he have winked after he said it. But it still didn’t get me any closer to actually finding where the weird man was.

As Emi passed the time rubbing the ring that she had been wearing while I had been thinking all. I noticed it glow.

I got close up to Emi and whispered into her ear, she reacted as it was suddenly a rather intimate situation but I pushed ahead anyway as I didn’t want anyone else hear it, “Your ring is glowing how about we go somewhere else and figure out the ring. It could lead us somewhere.”

Emi still red from the rather intimate contact nodded and we left to a more deserted alleyway. She had stopped rubbing the ring as we made our quick exit from the crowded market and it had faded back into its usual dull metallic appearance.

“I wonder why the ring glowed.” Emi voiced out her thoughts.

“Yeah me too, it must be something to do with the man who sold it to me. His shop was filled with knickknacks and I was drawn to this one. Perhaps he meant to sell it to me?”

“But that still doesn’t lead us any closer to finding the man.”

“It does though give us a clue. He meant to give it to me, he meant perhaps even to let it fall into your hands.”

“Did he say anything to that was out of the ordinary?”

“He did when he said his goodbye say “May luck always be on your side”.”

“Does that mean anything to you?”

“Not particularly.” I still hadn’t told Emi about my first special talent so I still didn’t want to reveal it just yet.

The gears in my mind turned round and round to try and figure it out.

Yin Yang is about how to opposite forces that are contrary are actually complimentary. They are related and interconnected with each other. The most common example if I remember properly is good and evil. The opposites fighting each other and relying on each other to survive. If there was no evil then there would be nothing to compare good to…Even my blades are called Light and Dark…opposites of each other. Even Emi’s swords were called Fire and Ice, commonly contradicting elements. Perhaps the ring was indicating some other opposite…perhaps related to Emi and me. What was different between us…our gender…perhaps the key to this is the role of gender and the opposites of each other. Maybe the person who gave us this ring was the same one who created that Cave. It can’t be coincidence that I was drawn to the Yin Yang ring.

But how does this all relate to each other…?
