Chapter 28: Limits

Think Clover. Think. We can’t see anything so we have to think of a way to see in the dark…

The Magic World!

“Emi! We need to get into the Magic world so we can see!”

Emi and I closed our eyes and focused ourselves into getting the Magic World. I opened my eyes and the world was illuminated with everything living leaving a speck of light that glowed and shone on everything.

I saw Foxy in the distance struggling and stuck on a spider web and a spider slowly getting closer to its prey. How do I help her if I’m stuck here? I need to somehow be able to control my body and still be able to see this light.

I went back into my body but again I was greeted by the darkness of the cave and the shrieks from Foxy. Emi and I looked at each other in the darkness and I knew what needed to happen. I closed my eyes, thinking not about reaching out but seeing the world through my eyes. I willed myself to push my eyesight into the other realm. I suddenly felt a warm glow reach my eyes, perhaps from my own magic that had been previously locked and hidden away. This warmth was entering my eyes and I opened them. The world was colored like the Magic World but I could still move my arms.

“Clover! Your eyes they’re glowing!” Emi exclaimed.

“I can see everything Emi. Think on only using your eyes to enter the magic world. Focus on only your eyes. Clear your mind and focus your inner energy onto your eyes. That’s the way!

Emi clenched her arms and closed her eyes. And after a couple of moments she too had glowing eyes like she had described.

“Come on we need to reach Foxy fast!” I ran and Emi followed suit.

We ran towards the glowing mass of energy that was on our right. As we got closer I spotted Foxy which was very different from the stalking arachnid bodies of the spiders. The energy instinctively felt warmer than the spiders. I drew out my swords and sprinted towards the spider closest to Foxy. I cleavered its head completely off and it fell down with a thud. I saw the energy exit the body and be released into the air. My body instinctively knew this was the life of the creature exiting into the afterlife. Emi dodged the bite from one of the spiders and picked off a couple of the smaller spiders who were looking for the opportunity to take their piece of Foxy. Their comrades seemed to retreat ready to strike at the moment of weakness.

We stood our backs facing Foxy and readied ourselves into fighting mode. I took my more familiar Rock stance and Emi her Water stance. Perhaps sensing the opportunity had gone, the spiders disappeared back into the darkness and we could no longer detect them through our eyes.

I stood on guard as Emi cut through the spider webs and brought Foxy down. Foxy burst our crying and hugged Emi tightly,

“I-I-I thought you had deserted me and left me in this darkness.”

“Of course not, we would never do that.” she switched off her magic and comforted Foxy to stop her hysteria. She at that moment seemed like a mother caring for her child who had just had the most horrible of nightmares.

I switched off this new improvised magic instead calling up my status tag to provide a bit of ambient light around us to protect us and calm Foxy a bit so that she was no longer in total darkness.

“W-what happened to your eyes? They glowed.” Foxy asked perhaps recovering a bit from her ordeal.

“Ah just something that we learned recently, I’ll tell you later,” Emi smiled slightly.

After a while Foxy regained her composure and stood up,

“Thank you Emi and Clover for saving me.”

“No need to say that we are a party.” Emi patted Foxy reassuringly. Which Foxy took very welcomingly.

I interrupted that warm atmosphere, perhaps due to jealousy or anger from Foxy running off, “Foxy I know you are scared but you need to make better decisions. We could have come up with a plan before and not stuck ourselves in this situation where we were in a dark cave with spiders all around us. Don’t do that again okay?” I softened for a bit, “We have to work as a team. I don’t want any of us getting injured okay?”

Foxy turned to me and nodded, possibly she was swept up in the moment, Foxy turned and hugged me too. Her normal breasts (comparatively to Emi’s) made me a feel a little bit turned on but I knew this wasn’t the time to think that and I returned the hug.

As we released I saw her face was tinged red for a moment. Perhaps it was the status tag’s warm glow or something else. But I pushed that out of my mind as I saw Emi’s face looking at us intently.

“Anyway we need to be on our toes,” eager to change the topic I said, “there’s still a chance the spiders will attack us. Let’s have me in the front and you guys protecting my back and we’ll try and find our way back to outside the cave.”

Foxy and Emi both nodded and we tried to make our way out of the cave. It was fairly easy as Emi and I would use our newly found eye magic to spot the mass of energy that was outside the cave and we followed that out. We took turns as it felt like a fairly tiring magic so we rested while the other one was using it.

We managed to navigate ourselves out of the cave and into the warm welcoming gaze of the sun as it greeted us from the darkness we had exited from.
