Article 31 - My First True day as an ADI Investigator Chapter 2

The humdrum of life a was all that greeted my at 7 am with no sign of David I've been sitting on a bench and wait for him to arrive, watching the Humans, cars and big red buses going about there routes. After half an hour I started to wonder with I should head of the home but unfortunately, a stale smell assaulted my nose, even before David could announce himself I stand up a little annoyed that he was late.

As I went to say something snarky, he held up his hand with two brown files. "Good to see you're here on time, one of Hellspawn in the Vail, picked and since I owed him one, for saving my arse. So he asked if we could check out another case in Bristol on the way out to Swansea. Follow me since you've unfortunately been assigned to my Horrible self. As I have a job to do and leaving you out of the would substantially jeopardise my own work, I'll explain on the way let's head to Paddington.

Taking the underground, I found that David was somewhat unusual, far more pleasant to some people yet. I watched him keep the door open to let an old lady of again at the same time I watched him get out of a seat and move to stand when a young black man sat next to him, but then sit next to an Asian couple with a nod.

With his confusing act going on, I merely stood watching the man. It wasn't that long of a trip to Paddington where they got on another bigger train which thankfully was pretty quiet. David moved along the railroad until he found an empty table seat where he chucked his bag on aisle seat a sat against the window staring out of it with his eye.

I sat opposite and took out my notebook, and waited patiently for David, he sighed before he looked at me, before open one of the files "Ok, so the first job's in bristol rumour and video evidence of a firestarter in an old warehouse. It's been abandoned for a year and is essentially collapsing the filter went off on a bunch of kid moving through build doing some sort of video recording for interest to feel something. Whatever the point is the video could something in it the filter pinged on and while faking all the views and comments sent it to us where we can investigate to see if any items may be up to or it's someone messing about that need putting down."

He took a few images out of the file and placed them, in front of me and said, "As you can tell the in the images that a fire started within the building. At least from the camera's view and the witness statements is that the "Kid saw this fire ignite itself in the middle of the room with nothing starting it." The fire investigator found an exhilarant in the room. The general consensus is that the kids were looking to spice up there video to make it go viral and get themselves famous instead. They ended up burning one of there friend arms and destroyed the lungs of their asthmatic kid who came in searching for them since he felt the shivers and little ill before they entered."

So we'll be heading there to find out when we get there will head straight to the warehouse to look about the scene to see if there anything magical about maybe ask the locals if they saw anything and will make our decision there."

I nodded in response and having taken note for guys, he moved on to the second Investigation the main reason for this trip. David pulled out some more pictures and placed them onto the table. These were far more graphic a mutilated body resting in a full and red bath. Her blue eyes staring lifelessly into the ceiling, with her hair drenched and clinging to her shoulders. She was thin into the extreme. The next extreme was flesh having been gouged out of her body no part spare from her thighs, arms and stomach having been taken. I whistled, and a shiver ran down my spine to my own stomach, "unholy shit! what's that all about."

David shrugged, "I don't know we'll be going there to find out. It's why I'm going and not some stupid newbie, they'll get assigned to cases which are common and not get given a case that has something rarer or unknown a great way to lose an officer if the upper management doesn't like you... hmm just like my first case… the fucking bastards."

Looking far grimmer at his own seeming realisation that people don't like him, he merely shrugs at the thought and glaring at me as he talked as if I thought a terrible idea I decided that I needed to continue to listen.

"Anyway you don't have that luxury either, it messes as if you're not very well-liked, maybe that's the reason you've been sent to report on me, haha, looks like you're as liked as me!"

He started laughing and laughed so hard that he had tears rolling down his face, wiping them away he said, "Well since no one likes me, I'm going to see that you get through this with at most of you intact. So I'd suggest you listen closely to increase your chances, First, don't touch anything unless I'm throwing it at you. Second Always beware where you place your dainty little feet because you'll need those to run away from anyone or thing more dangerous than yourself and by the looks of yourself you'll be doing a lot of running. Thirdly, Alway be prepared to use magic at the same time don't use magic, and you if you don't know, how any magic will affect an item whether it's a hereditary trait or and learnt spell don't use them but by all means protect yourself. Finally, always do what I say when I say it doesn't mean you go around thinking about whether you should just do it!"

I nodded, he looked down at the file, "she's a female, 24 years old, lives in an apartment with her boyfriend. Her name's Heather Rayfield, she was found on the 28th of February in the bath from blood loss. With about 20 % of her own flesh having been cut and the torn from her body. The morgue examined the body and found flesh underneath her fingernails, there no known equipment or knives on the scene which she could have used to first cut a bit off, before using her own finger and tear her own flesh off. Unfortunately, the police interviews weren't helpful so we'll have to find the boyfriend Alex Mercer and question him. Will also need to look at the history of building and area see what we can find and what might cause this phenomenon and find the item involved and deal with it. Any question?"

I nodded and asked, 'Just one right now Why the Hell are we on a train the Ways open if little longer we could be there far quicker?"

He held up two-finger, " Because it's less bright and distracting, and it means I do fewer cases, meaningless work!"

With that, he started ignoring me and starred out of the window, not that I minded since it was a lot of information to process. Once they had arrived at Newport and transferred to Bristol. It was late morning by the time we arrived after checking the directions we got a cab and arriving in front of the warehouse just like you'd see anywhere else in the country. Hollow window, rusted metal walls and overgrowing weed enlarging cracks in the concrete. We set about our exploration, but even before entering the building, I got chills and a bit queasy as a fluxation within my body. I looked over to see that even David had paled a little. But he took out a flashlight and enter regardless of what my body was telling me I followed.

Thankfully the feeling lessens as we entered the building. Once within I was how large the opening was the main room ran from the entrance all the way to the back wall.

With a set of rooms running doors on the two sides with the big empty room, there was definitely a chill that went down my own back. As I when to the left-hand side room, David stopped me before pulling me behind himself. With his other hand going to his eyepatch he lifted it, I'll be honest I was curious as to what that other eye looked like so being as inconspicuous as possible I tried to take a peek, unsuccessfully so. As he let go giving a hmm and walked into the left side room.

Following him, into the room where a smell of burnt metal and another smell that I couldn't quite remember. But David was already moving through rooms before stepping into one which was pungent in the scent of burnt wood, metal and flesh mixed with that other smell I couldn't remember almost gagging on it. I stepped out for a second before plunging back in see that David was hovering over the chard floor, as he dipped his finger in he tasted the soot.

I grimace imaging that it didn't taste nice, but he did seem at all bothered. Pulling something from within his coat, he shovelled a bit of the ash into it. Giving it a good stir it when green. His eyebrow rose, before getting up and looked through his bag, pulling out a wind charm, and let it dangle for a few seconds before the building shook violently. Within the room green and blueish figure started drawing it very self from the build before a stout man looking very dapper in a three-piece suit and cane, it stood there staring at the charm. David grasped the wind charm stopping the sound and placed it back into he bag, before speaking to the ghost. "Hey, mister ghost got some question for you two days ago, a couple of children came in here, Can you tell me what happened?"

The ghost seemingly shook up from the use of the wind charm but having figured things out as it looked back at the wall he'd been dragged from then at David and then Myself he snorted "Yeah, I don't need to answer to either of you."

David replied "Yes… you do! I'm David Davis ADI Investigator, please answer the question."

The ghost became even more translucent, "Sorry, Sir David, getting pulled off the building does fuzzy things to me, never had that done to me before."

A glare from David had the ghost waver a little "Sorry, yes the stupid pint-sized humans, they came in here pour a bit of flammable liquid and then stupidly set off by accident."

David stared at the wobbly exterior of the ghost, “Good Ghost, why were you inhabiting the build itself?”

"I'm worried about that blood war starting we ghost always get caught in the middle, with buildings getting destroyed, so I decided that I would have ether mangy Werewolves in my home nor the bottom-feeding vampire sheltering in my rafters. It's Ghost Law that we're allowed to use our power to defend our home from other supernatural creatures."

David nodded “Indeed you are, but not human nor human children.”

The ghost almost faded away right there.

I have studied a bit about ghosts now that when a ghost inhabits a building itself, they lose their ability to use their sight, so everything that has to go through a sort of sense of touch.

I believe that David knows this but isn't coming straight out and saying it. It doesn't matter because the ghost spoke, "Didn't know, sorry I felt these beings walking around my home and resting, and then they set up that fire and even relieved themselves. I thought I'd been invaded, so I ignited the fire to give a warning for them to leave even thou my first warning didn't get through. I didn't want to harm anyone. I just wanted to get rid of them."

David nodded "You should've reported it immediately, it would have saved the ADI, manpower and yourself a lot of trouble since you have a Ghost home protection act which will stop any supernatural's from invading your home? I'll have a report if this is your first time then you'll get off with this as a slap to the wrist."

The ghost finally focused realising that he wasn't going to be get exorcised but laughed as David spoke about the GPA. "You should tell that to my friends around town, they have already been invaded by werewolves and Vamps."

This got David's attention as he looked at the "You sure it's an invasive or volunteer?"

The may the ghost hesitate "I'm not sure I know someone was complaining about it at bingo last week. And other second-hand comment but they could have just been covering their asses."

David nodded, "I'll see about getting a report in, get some newbie to look into it. If there's something to it, then we'll do something about it."

The ghost gave his thanks before melted back into the walls of his home. David and I walked back outside in silence. I simply followed him back to the train station heading towards Swansea and their next rip and tear victim.
