ADI Investigator Department Article Chapter 1

Written by Archer Fairwing

This wasn't how I imagined my first day to go to Dark Times. I walk in on my first day a get situated by the lovely Theresa, our receptionist a cute fairy who, I'm assuming to be the only reason the office seems to function in an orderly fashion. It's as if the world had been turned upside down people walking too and through the office bumping into each other, papers haphazardly spread about the office desks. The only exception was my own, which was clear of clutter leaving only the usual office equipment.

As I sat down at my desk organising my space. However, I wasn't left to my own devices for long before the co-owner appeared behind me, a shadow casting over me. Looking back to see the white and golden-haired, infamously known Starfury, the species nobody knows anything about were not even sure if Starfury is his name, or a species name there since their no other like him.

Not much more I could speculate on within his own newspaper before the editor or Starfury start deleting things. I'll not lie my hearts skipped a beat as his aura a fabulous extension of life almost so intense it burns my face, and I have to squint to look at him even though he isn't luminescent. He smiles apologetically before speaking.

"Sorry, about that, bit energetic today the war's got everyone on edge and running at full till on this war checking source's and investigating reports of both side movements. Anyway because of that you've come at a convenient time as everyone running on this war, we have no one else to move on this ADI Job, so you're on it. So pack your stuff take a thick notepad a make your way to ADI headquarters and follow the investigator they assign you too. I'd recommend that you'd write it like a diary or story trying to get those emotions into the work make them look like normal people but don't forget you're a reporter so keep an eye out of any stories that could come from this. At first, they'll see you as a reporter, but the longer you're their the more like they are to forget about what you are, so just be aware of yourself and good luck."

Now you must be wondering why the hell I'd be telling this instead of heading straight to the story at the Adi it's just I wanted to inform the readers to like, subscribe and to know that I was taught to be a journalist. They're meant to simply tell their reader the facts, so this series is definitely outside of anything I was taught to do which is exciting and new so the work may not be perfect. I hope the readers can be understanding as I'll learn as I go along. Thank you, and I do hope you enjoy my work as an ADI Investigator the Series.

As I got out of the London underground surrounded by ignorant humans going about the insignificant and boring lives unaware of the goings-on in the darker world they inhabit. Looking down at the map he'd gotten in order find his way to the detached buildings that was the ADI. I'd managed to see the tall glass building that reflected the sun into my eye squinting through I walked up to the front door and pushed through and into the crisp, clean line, marble-floored front reception. Moving forward to the lovely lady at the front who's eyes were green and brown. Flash my reporter card while saying hello, and get a greeting in return. "So Mr.Fairwing from the Dark Times I see yes we have your appointment here if you could wait over there someone will come up and show you around and to how you'll be assigned too."

Thanking her, I go and sit down as waited watching others who were hanging about, noticing that there were a good dozen men in a black suit. With a face that told everyone they were not to be talked to, they watched everyone entering like hawks from above ready to deal with anyone who attacks. Using my Magic eyes, I notice the hundreds of rune that glowed that cover every inch of the walls, floors and doors of the place. Looking down at my own rune that glowed slightly that showed it's activation so too do the runes on the build glowed just magnified a hundredfold.

I was so entranced that I never noticed the man who was trying to talk to me. It wasn't until he touched me that I managed to pull away from the runes. Greeting me was a slim and well-dressed man who's grey eyes held humour and kindness. ''Hello, it quite magnetic isn't it?"

After I get my aware with all, I replied: "Yes, I didn't even notice you approaching me sorry neither did I hear you."

He smiled, "That's quite normal since the runes are tattooed to stop people from staring at them a simple lesson for the first entering the ADI really that you're not supposed to look too closely at anything in here. it's also used as a customer service since you've been sitting here for about an hour while I was organising you're ID and assign."

"An hour I've been sitting here for an hour and I'd never noticed the time go by."

The man spoke up again this time the kindness last held back for the more serious tone, "I'll tell you once and hopeful one of those that have some form of willpower but you shouldn't use Magic eye anywhere else in this building since other runes won't put you into a trance they'll straight up, kill you."

I'll be honest, I never knew how highly secure the ADI, far more daunted about working there I promised to never use my magic eye in here again. I wasn't going to give up either, I had a job to do.

I stood up an spoke "Thanks for the warning I'll be sure to do my best to avoid using it, I'm Archer, so who will a be working with?"

The man took the offered hand and gave a tense laugh "Sorry my names Cody, as for who you're working with well it a human and I believe the Dark Times did a story on him, I'll warn you to now, his rough around the edges and don't take to much thought in how he treats you, he'll not harm you, but yeah it's hard to explain. I've no idea why someone from high ups would assign him to a bloody reporter."

"Will he really be that bad?"

Cody cringed and nodded "Afraid so, give him a chance to get used to you and it'll blow over, but he's the best, and he will keep you safe, just don't get too close to him at first."

A little apprehensive we move off towards the elevators, as once opened we entered as Cody told him a what he should do you get to the hidden panel to use the secret scanner which let to down to the ADI HQ

Not that I'm allowed to tell anyone where or how. (Sorry readers no betrayals here)

As the elevator descended, Cody gave him the ID I needed, the trip took a good minute of falling before it stop with a ding and a voice-over inform me of my arrival at the lobby.

Upon opening, there was a fresh smell of lavender, and the brightly lit room showed the diverse mass of monsters, from the vulgar to the magnificent. From the huge to the tiny none of them hid themselves looking down at the rune on his skin that everyone was given birth he stopped the flow of power to it as he perspective shifted into a smaller 4 foot 8, white-skinned, multi-coloured eyed, human half breed.

Looking over to Cody who smiles show his two buck teeth the long flop ears, white fur and snake tail, claws of a lion and feet of a horse.

I couldn't contain my own excitement, he was a Chimera a magical creature that had been spliced by a mad Witch wanting to see if she could create the perfect being. Of course, they once she manages to make them she create a few thousand as her own personal slave army, but like any time you enslave a species, they'll always get it into their head to the thoughts of freedom. So her own army ended up killing her or at least that's how the story went.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.

The thing with Chimera's that they required constant maintains and with the meagre breeding rate the slowly died out under a very few stable creatures that could breed at a fast enough speed to build any sort of numbers up.

I'll stop my gushing of creature he senses there were so many amazing ones in the ADI that I could go on about all day. But as I had a job to do, I tried to remove stars from my eyes and held my tongue back to stop myself from asking him about his life.

Listening to the Instruction on the layout and about how the colours indicate what level of ID one requires to enter areas. Like the MARD, was green which I had marked on my ID, I also had ADI Main as white, and TRO as blue, Cody explained as we walk past places with dozens of other coloured department wings.

So the MARD, is Magical Arms Research and Development wing which is where they research The Magical items that they receive, and where they develop magical weapon and equipment that are used by Investigator and Tactical units to subdued, being and items alike.

TRO's the Tactical Reaction and Organization department, the primary used for raids, coordination between departments, and weapons training, and anything that required military movement against anything that could cause harm.

ADI's, of course, that central department that the whole organisation is designed around Achieving of Dangerous Items. An organisation that even the most powerful beings in the world will listen too. They're assigned to capture powerful magical items that are created by accidents or on purpose.

As they moved to the white marked door as scanning themselves in the moved into a painted white corridor dotted the drawings and painting from school children with many plain wooden doors with another elevator at the end of it.

Cody knocks on the door with a number Fourteen on and when he received an answer he walked, and I followed in, In the room women in a black suit was reading something, as the walked up to the desk she place the papers down, her hand then gestured to a couch which I took to indicate for me to sit down.

Doing so, I took in her horn, sharp jawline and slitted eyes, and forked tail. She stood up she walked over holding a tall posture, offering a hand which I took "Mr.Fairwing pleasure to meet, I'm glad to welcome you to my unit in which you'll be with for the foreseeable future. I'd like to pre-apologise, I've asked multiple times why you've been placed into my ragtag unit let alone who you've been assign too. I imagine that it's about politic which we aren't immune too here."

My curiosity had peaked as to why I think I know who since Cody had given the name by telling me that the Dark Times had released an article on him. The only one I know who'd recently been in a Dark Times was the archive of David Davis in the Colt peacemaker with a Seventh Bullet.

It got me to wonder what had happened to him, to make those how to know him pre apologise it was leaving a wrong impression.

Whatever, I'll just have to put up with that and work through will at least make an exciting story look at the unit commander with a smile. "I'm sure I can handle anything David can dish out, my skin isn't as fair as it looks."

She returned the smile "Name's Helen if you need anything come talk to me. Cody here will show you to David and inform you of the does and don't."

They stood up, shook hand and left with Cody guiding telling me what's what. I did my best to listen and learn the layout of his new workspace. They took the elevator down several flights almost to the bottom the exited out in a large office hall fifty-odd individuals were walking about talking, making phone calls and typing on the computer. The first person the moved to was directly in front of the elevator at the tall desk sat another woman who's nine fluffy orange swishing tails told everyone not to mess with her. As they approached her slitted orange eyes fell on them, the sharp canine features even made my heart flitter, either in love or in fear, I knew not which it was but there no way I'd like to find out.

As Cody brave, the stare he said but these few words to cause the tail to swish in excitement blowing the wind in or faces, "We're here to see David is he in his office?"

She nodded, hearing her gentle voice was a sharp contrast to her image, "Hey, David's in his office in a state I know not, Follow me."

As they follow behind, he looked around watching the staff go about there work the Tree Fork work on cleaning and keep the dozens of plants within the office. I tried looking past the nine tails to catch a glance of the corner office that had been boxed.

Arriving the nine tails swishing around more rapidly, as she took a deep breath and knocked.

A loud shout came from the room, as there was a lot of crashing, "WHAT?"

"It's Agatha, Cody's here to talk to you."

"Tell him to bugger off, I'm not interested in another piece of shit that likes get themselves kill at the first opportunity."

"Well if you didn't like the dull ones then maybe you wouldn't lose them every other investigation. Now open the door, or I tear it down again and force you to talk to these ."

"Ok, you fucking harlot. I'm coming, bloody bitch honest can't I sleep in peace."

I tense as he says this Agatha tail slow, I really don't what to know what her face is like right now. A bang against the door as someone fiddles with the lock. The door swings open, banging against the wall again. There stand was a middle-aged man who's brown unkempt and greasy hair fell over his brown and soar looking eye the other covered in an eyepatch the held some sort of rune on it. The simple jean and shirt he wore were crumpled and creased. I could decide which was scare the deathly look of David or predator look of Agatha.

"What Cody have my today?"

Completely ignoring Agatha, he walked straight past her. Her tails plummeted to the floor her ears fell back.

Cody didn't seem fazed at all, "Can we talk in your office?"

David nodded and reentered his room, crashing back into his chair, waiting for them. Cody stepped forward, placing a hand on Agatha's shoulder before moving forward. I followed with a quiet thank you to her.

Once seated inside, he stared around seeing two desks with mountains of rubbish on them the one space that seemed clear was in front of a whiteboard which was covered in images, note, strings and question marks. The one picture he did recognise was the one with a colt in it.

My thought, was interrupted by a noise at the door, but David's raw voice distracted me from whatever it was, "So what's this about know?"

Cody took a breath before answering," This here is Archer Fairwing, His going to be following you about for the foreseeable future."

David explodes "I don't need a caretaker!"

"He's not here to take care of you, you're going to take care of him, he's a reporter and will be your sidekick. Don't bother the Commander she already has done everything she can to get someone else better for him to follow about but unfortunately, the higher-ups didn't listen, so you're stuck with him."

David glared at Cody who took it in stride seeing that Cody wasn't effected his one eye turned on me. "I don't like it, a reporter following me, sound like that's going to end in disaster."

David sat back in his chair, took a flask out and swigged it before putting it back in the draw. "Fine, I have nothing to do today bar shitty reports and sleeping. So come back tomorrow I'll meet you outside the building no need to go into this shit hole, we have a mission in South Wales some pour women tore her own body apart using a razor blade was assuming its magical in nature, so we'll be finding out tomorrow.

"Why aren't we going now to find out?"

David looked at me to Cody "Great another idiot to deal with, because the pigs are collecting the evidence we need and then they'll lock it up. Two unknowns can't just fucking appear in the middle of a crime scene with so many people around and do our jobs we need to wait until after they have left. So be outside this build tomorrow morning at 7 am, if you are not here, I will leave without you. Now with that sorted, I have a nap to attend too."

With obvious dismissed both Cody and I got up and left, noticing that there were four clawed out marks on the front of his door, moving past the front desk he saw that Agatha was cleaning something out of her fingernails.

Upon entering the elevator, I release a breath I hadn't realised I was keeping. "Bloody hell, why'd you put me, with David he isn't exact family-friendly?"

Cody shrugged "Don't ask me, It's going to be interesting either way showing to the public the worst of the organisation. I don't quite know yet, but will see if you survive. I'd suggest to head home and get a good bit of rest for tomorrow."

I couldn't disagree with that statement I was exhausted with two new jobs in one day and that one emotional, exhausting human.
