Chapter 34: It’s Just the Beginning

I lost track of time while reading the book. I don’t know how much time has gone by. I finished the last page of the book. I now know all of the creatures in the book that is in this new world. I read about the mighty Gargoyles, warrior Humanimals, cute Toys, beautiful Merpeople, mighty Dragons, dangerous Scorpionos, barbarian Raptormen, creepy Screaming Meanies, wild Siberionbeasts, deadly water Creatures, adorable Pookas, ugly Demons, cunning Sharkrins, and many other creatures that live in this new world. I know about the good and the bad creatures. I know about the places in this new world. Now I know everything about this world. The one thing I don’t know is who made the book. I know the book and the Magic Potion were meant for me, but I still don’t know who created them.

I close the book and yawn. “It’s amazing how much I can learn and how fast time flies while I read,” I say to myself.

I lift my head and turn to the right to see Howak standing on the grass looking at the two moons. I put my book in my backpack and walk up to Howak. I stand right by him and I clear my throat.

“Hi,” I say.

Howak continues staring at the two moons. “Hi,” he says back to me.

“Don’t you sleep?” I ask Howak.

Howak answers me by shaking his head.

“You know sleeping is part of a healthy life. Why don’t you sleep?” I ask.

Howak lowers his head. He looks sad. “I can’t sleep because I’m thinking of someone right now,” answers Howak.

I open up my book and start turning the pages to find something.

Howak looks down at me as I am searching for my book. “What are you looking for?” asks Howak.

I find the page about Howak.

I point at the picture. “Is this you?” I ask.

Howak looks down at the picture. “Yes, it is me,” he answers.

“It says here that you are waiting for someone. Who are you waiting for?” I ask Howak.

Howak lets out a big sigh and then sits down. I sit down next to him. “We have been waiting for a boy. A boy who came into this world many years ago,” answers Howak.

I turn the page. There is a picture of another Animataur. This one looks like a blue Werewolf with large wolf legs and a muscular body like Howak. “It says here that this is Wolfong,” I say.

Howak nods. “Yes. He is my second in command,” answers Howak.

I turn the page again. There is another Animataur picture. This one looks like a red reptile human lizard with strong red lizard legs and a buff body, buffer than Howak’s or Wolfong’s. I sigh and point at the last Animataur picture. “And it says here that this is Lazarus, you’re third in command?” I ask.

Howak turns his head away from the picture.

I close the book. “Howak, what's wrong?” I ask.

Howak shuts his eyes.

“Lizarius was not very happy about being third in command. He thought being third was being weak. When I told Lizarius that Wolfong was the second in command he was furious. Lizarius tried to kill Wolfong, but I stopped him. I knew Lizarius had a bad temper, but I never thought he would try to kill Wolfong. After that, he left us and never returned. Lizarius was my friend,” explains Howak.

I put the book back in my backpack.

“I’m sorry about Lizarius,” I apologize.

Howak opens his eyes and turns to me. “Why are you apologizing? You haven’t done anything wrong,” he says.

I suddenly feel very tired. I sit down on the grass.

“I'm just sorry that you lost a friend,” I say. I yawn and close my eyes.

Howak smiles. “You’re a good boy, Daniel, and don’t you forget it,” says Howak.

I nod my head and begin to breathe quietly. Howak stands up and continues to look at the moons. He sighs and folds his muscular purple arms across his light purple chest.

“Wolfong and Lizarius, I think that I have found the boy that we have been waiting for,” he whispers to himself.

I hear what he is saying. “Does he mean me? I don’t remember this world or him,” I say to myself.

There are so many things I want to know, but I decide to not worry about them right now. I think about home and my parents, but the more I think about home, the more I have trouble sleeping. I try to not worry about that as well. I drift off to sleep.

The two-morning suns come out of the white clouds right above Ani Lake. I start to move around a little. I stretch my arms and legs. I shake my head and look up at the sky. The two suns shine from behind the clouds. It is a very beautiful morning. I feel very relaxed. I smile and watch the orange morning clouds. I notice a large blue dragon flying towards us from far away.

I quickly stand up. “Wake up everyone!” I shout.

Everyone wakes up. Tigeron put out his fists. Grizzlyon grabs his ax. Bearon draws his long wide sword. Jonas runs to Howak and grabs his right front leg. Howak points his spear at the sky. Spotty holds on to Timmy.

Megan looks up at the large blue dragon. She chuckles in amusement. “Relax. It’s only Artemis,” she says.

Tigeron yawns and lowers his fists. Grizzlyon growls and lowers his ax. Bearon chuckles and lowers his sword. Jonas sighs and lets go of Howak’s leg. Howak sighs quietly and lowers his spear. Timmy and Spotty let go of each other and I sigh loudly. I stare at Artemis and quietly chuckle.

Artemis lands on the ground and looks at us.

“I have been at Azent Kingdom. The war is over. Feeon is alive and well. Faron is also alive. The Screaming Meanies have been destroyed. The Humanimals have won the battle,” says Artemis.

Megan and I cheer for joy and hug each other, and then our lips touch with a kiss. Megan gasps and steps back. I chuckle a little and then blush. Megan is also blushing.

Timmy and Spotty whistle at us. Grizzlyon, Bearon, and Tigeron pound their fists together. Jonas jumps for joy and hugs Howak’s leg. Howak smiles and pats Jonas on the top of the head.

Artemis nods and laughs. “Yes, the Humanimals have won the war in Azent Kingdom,” he says joyfully.

“Thanks to the birthday boy,” says a familiar old voice with a Chinese accent.

I gasp. “Is that who I think it is?” I ask myself.

An old man slides off of Artemis’s back. He lands on the ground. It is the same old man from the magic shop that I saw on my birthday. He is wearing the same clothes that he was wearing the day I saw him in his magic shop. I walk up to the old man and hug him.

Timmy lowers his eyebrows. “Why does he always hug whenever he gets emotional or excited? I’ll never understand humans,” says Timmy.

Spotty hits Timmy.

“Ow!” shouts Timmy.

“Don’t interrupt!” snaps Spotty.

I let go of the old man and smile at him.

“Sorry. I have been looking everywhere for you ever since I heard that you were here somewhere. You are my only hope of getting home,” I say.

Artemis points at the old man. “Everyone, I’d like you to meet my dear old friend. John Hollow, the shopkeeper,” says Artemis.

I walk over to Megan. “John Hollow, this is my best friend Megan. She lives right next door to me,” I say.

Then I turn to Grizzlyon, Bearon, and Tigeron.

“This is Grizzlyon, Bearon, and Tigeron. Grizzlyon is the first Humanimal that we met in this world. I learned all about him in the book. He has symbols all over his body. No one knows what they mean. He lives in the forest of M. He loves to eat fish, watch the stars, and sing about nature. Mostly he sings about bees and honey since he’s a human-bear,” I say.

I point to Tigeron. “This is Tigeron. He lives in Azent Kingdom. He is obsessed with his muscles. Thanks to Megan, he has proven himself a worthy Humanimal warrior.

Tigeron and Grizzlyon didn’t get along because Grizzlyon thought that Tigeron was too obsessed with his own body, but not anymore. They are friends now. Well, sometimes,” I say.

Grizzlyon and Tigeron look at each other. Tigeron smiles and waves at Grizzlyon. Grizzlyon rolls his eyes.

I shake my head, then point at Bearon.

“This is Bearon. He is Grizzlyon’s younger brother. He was the champion of the Training Ground until another champion came along. That’s me,” I say.

I point to Timmy and Spotty.

Timmy and Spotty wave at John Hollow.

John Hollow waves back at them.

I pat Timmy and Spotty’s heads. “This is Timmy and Spooty,” I say.

Spotty squeaks loudly. “It’s Spotty! Spotty! Spotty! Spotty!” she shouts.

I chuckle. “I know. I was just being silly. Timmy and Spotty are brother and sister, so sometimes they don’t get along. But they do love each other,” I say.

John Hollow, the old Chinese man, rubs his chin. “Very interesting, continue please,” he says to me.

I point at Howak and Jonas. “And last but not least, Howak and Jonas. Howak is the leader of two other Animators. He can summon plants from anywhere underground. He is brave, and bold, and protects little creatures. Like Jonas.

Little Jonas loves to go on adventures. Even though he’s quite young to go on dangerous adventures, he still has the spirit of adventure in him,” I say.

Jonas blushes and scratches his right ear. “He’s right. I do have the spirit of adventure in me,” he says.

John Hollow laughs and claps his hands. “Well done, Daniel Mark Tony, well done,” laughs John Hollow.

I stare at John Hollow and slowly smile. “You knew about this world. Before you gave me the Magic Potion,” I say.

John Hollow nods and lowers his hands down.

I’m confused, again. “Hang on a minute. If you knew about the creatures in this world, then why did you let me explain about them?” I ask.

“I just wanted to see how much you knew about your friends. And may I say, you explained it all very well,” John Hollow answers.

I take out my cell phone.

“I tried to call and text my mom, but it didn’t work. Now my phone is dead and I have no way to charge it here. Do you know how I can get home?” I ask John Hollow.

John Hollow shakes his head. “I’m sorry, but we can’t go back the way we came. On your sixteenth birthday, I knew you would come into my shop. I knew the Magic Potion was for you. The Magic Potion opened a way into this world once again. I went into your house when no one was home and came here through your closet door after you did. Your closet door was the entrance to this world, but it has been sealed for a long time. I don’t know why it was sealed. I could not enter this world for many years. I tried many times to find another way into this world. Only you could use the potion to open up the door to this world from your closet. But it only worked one way. So we have to figure out another way to get back. I was so happy to come back to this world again. I have been looking for you ever since I arrived. Everyone’s been expecting you, Daniel Mark Tony,” he says.

I gulp and point at myself. “Why me?” I ask

“Because you are the same boy that came to this world a long time ago. You are the boy who can change into any creature, control nature, and heal all the wounds in this world,” answers John Hollow.

Megan walks up to John Hollow and chuckles. “Daniel is the boy with these powers?” she asks.

“Yes, he is. Daniel Mark Tony is…” John Hollow stops for a moment.

John Hollow shakes his head and turns away. “How do I say this? It’s about someone in a prophecy,” he finishes.

I sigh and rub my left arm. “You think I’m the Chosen One that the prophecy mentions and that I have been here before?” I ask.

John Hollow nods with a smile.

“Why don’t I remember ever being here?” I ask.

“For some reason, you forgot about this world,” answers John Hollow.

I look up at Artemis and he smiles at me. “What do you think about all of this?” I ask.

“Honestly, Daniel, this is only the beginning,” says Artemis.

“Beginning of what?” I ask.

“The first prophecy might be completed, thanks to you, but there might be other prophecies out there to fulfill. And we will help you fulfill them,” says Artemis.

John Hollow nods. “All of us. You are not in this alone,” he says.

I turn to look at Grizzlyon, Tigeron, Bearon, Jonas, Howak, Timmy, and Spotty. Megan takes my right hand and smiles at me. I do not feel like smiling, but I do it anyway. We both sigh and look up at the orange morning sky. I see a few white clouds hovering in the wind.

I feel that this might be the beginning of our journey in this new world and suddenly, for some reason, I don’t feel worried about my mom and dad. I know that they might be worried about me, but I feel that these creatures need me more than my mom and dad right now. I know that my mom will watch over my dad if he is in the hospital, but I don’t know for sure. The others walk up to Megan and me to stand with us. We all watch the clouds rolling by in the orange sky. I have a feeling that they will help Megan and me accomplish what we need to do to heal the wounds in this world and eventually return home.

After all, this is only the beginning of this new world.
