Chapter 29: The Three Quests

The army of Screaming Meanies flies through the air. General Dread leads the way. Some of the Screaming Meanies take out their swords and sharpen them with their daggers. They scream for war with a loud high pitched sound. They fly over mountains and forests. They do not need to stop and rest because they’re dead skeletons in rusty armor.

Back in the Forest of M, the big chubby human bear, Grizzlyon is sitting on a rock humming a quiet song. Grizzlyon feels a little guilty for leaving the two Earthlings at the Training Ground. He sighs and then gets off the rock that he was sitting on. He looks down at his chubby furry belly and touches the old symbols on his belly.

“Leaving them was a mistake,” says Grizzlyon.

He smacks his head and grunts in anger. He starts to walk towards Azent Kingdom, carrying his backpack tent, his ax, and his bow and arrows.

Near the Lake of Azent, General Rormen the human buff Rhino is practicing his battle moves. He wields a large ax. It has a half-circle blade and a brown leather handle.

Rormen jumps into the air and spins around with his ax. Then he raises the ax into the air. He stomps on the ground and throws his ax at a large rock. The ax slices through the rock and the rock crumbles into many pieces. He runs towards the crumbled rock and grabs his ax.

He stands on his right leg to balance. His dark grey rhino ears rise. He hears the screams of the Screaming Meanies in the distance. He gasps and runs towards Azent Kingdom to warn King Feeon.

Rormen makes it to the gates of Azent. He sees the brown human bull standing by the gates. The human bull raises his left eyebrow, looking suspiciously at Rormen.

“Open the gates!” shouts Rormen.

The brown human bull looks up and waves his right hand at the grey human bull on top of a pillar. The grey human bull nods and pulls the lever to open the gates. The gate's slowly open. Rormen is feeling impatient. He grabs the left door of the gates and grunts as he pulls on it. The gate is halfway opened.

Rormen runs inside. “Get you’re archers ready!” orders Rormen to the brown human bull.

The brown human bull nods and turns to a few human raccoons. “Archers to the wall!” shouts the brown human bull.

Ten human raccoons grab their bows and arrows and run to the top of the wall. The raccoons have grey fur. They wear light brown belts over their shoulders and around their back. They each wear black band cloths around their ankles and ears. They also wear blue and grey loincloth towels.

Five are on the right side of the wall and the other five are on the left side. They wait.

Rormen continues running to King Feeon’s tower.

“Raccoono!” shouts Rormen.

A light grey human raccoon runs to Rormen. He is the leader of the raccoon archers. He wears a dark yellow vest and a light grey belt over his shoulder. He wears a red bandana around his head and a yellow towel loincloth.

“I want you to keep an eye on the Lake of Azent and tell me when you see the Screaming Meanies coming,” says Rormen to Raccoono.

Raccoono nods and then runs to his position on the top of the wall. Rormen turns to the other Humanimals in the middle village.

“The rest of you, get the young ones to safety! And prepare for battle!” shouts Rormen.

The Humanimals seem confused. They have no idea what's going on. Rormen hears them murmuring.

“Listen! Listen with your ears! Use your senses! The danger is coming!” Rormen points at the gates.

The Humanimals look to the gates. They stop murmuring and start listening. They hear nothing, for now.

The Screaming Meanies stop screaming and glide quietly. General Dread can see Azent Kingdom about a mile away. He raises his right arm and points at the ground. The Screaming Meanies nod. General Dread flies down and lands on the ground. The Screaming Meanies also start landing on the ground. One by one they all land on their feet. They are very quiet. General Dread raises his right arm and points at Azent Kingdom. General Dread starts marching toward the kingdom. The Screaming Meanies follow him.

Raccoono’s ears lift. He turns his head toward the Lake of Azent. Raccoono jumps off the wall and lands on the ground. He runs to Azent Lake. He squints his eyes to see far away to Ivreall Falls. He sees black smoke covering the falls and quickly moving towards Azent Kingdom. Raccoono’s eyes open wide with shock. He runs back to the walls of Azent Kingdom, jumps on top of the wall, and stands in the middle of it. He pulls out his arrow and aims at the black smoke.

A human raccoon turns to Raccoono.

“Raccoono, why are you aiming at nothing?” the human raccoon asks.

Raccoono looks at the human raccoon and lifts his ears. He tilts his head a little towards Azent Lake. The human raccoon turns to the lake. His ears lift as he can hear marching footsteps far away from the lake.

Raccoono turns his head to the human raccoon. “Tell the other human raccoons to aim at the lake. I need to tell General Rormen that they’re coming from Azent Lake,” says Raccoono.

The human raccoon nods. Raccoono puts his arrow back in his back pouch. He then runs down the stairs and into the village. He looks around to see if he can find General Rormen. He seems to be nowhere in sight. Raccoono taps on an old human goat’s shoulder to get his attention. The human goat is wearing a long brown robe and holds a walking stick.

“Where is General Rormen?” asks Raccoono.

The human goat points at Feeon’s tower. Raccoono runs to the tower.

General Rormen sits on a wooden chair by Feeon’s bed as Feeon lies on it. Faron is also sitting on a chair by the bed. Feeon has two cold wet towels on him. One is on his head, the other one is on his chest.

Rormen turns his head to Faron. “What did Veeule say about the king’s condition?” asks Rormen.

Faron sighs and stares at his sick father in bed.

“He says that this is human sickness and that a human boy might heal him with the Magic Potion. But he was just guessing, he doesn’t know for sure. Right now Veeule is making medicine to help my sick father. My father seems to be burning up whenever I touch him, he sounds like his throat was cut by a blade, and his breathing sounds very weak,” answers Faron.

Rormen turns back to Feeon and sighs. “Who has this magic potion?” asks Rormen to Faron.

“I think the two Earthlings have it,” answers Faron.

Rormen closes his fingers and into a fist. He growls quietly. Faron turns to Rormen.

“Is something wrong?” asks Faron.

Rormen slowly gets up and walks to the window. He looks out the window and sees many Humanimals waiting for Feeon. Rormen turns to Faron and Faron raises his right eyebrow.

“Why are you looking at me?” asks Faron.

Rormen turns his body around and bows.

Faron gasps and places his right hand on his chest. “Why are you bowing down at me? I’m just the prince,” asks Faron.

Rormen raises his head at Faron.

“My prince, you should know that…” Rormen stops.

Just before Rormen could finish his sentence, Raccoono opens the doors and runs to Rormen.

Raccoono pants. “The Screaming Meanies are coming here,” he says.

Faron’s eyes widen with fear. Feeon stops panting and start to breathe normally. Faron turns to Feeon on the bed and kneels in front of him.

“Father what should we do?” asks Faron.

Feeon lifts his right finger and whispers to his son. “Take me to the window,” whispers Feeon.

Faron turns to Rormen and points at Feeon and then at the window. Rormen looks out the window and back at Feeon. He nods and walks up to the bed where Feeon is laying. Rormen picks up Feeon and carries him to the window. The Humanimals are there, waiting for their king. Feeon moves his mouth to Rormen’s ear.

“Tell them that you are in charge to lead the army,” whispers Feeon.

Rormen nods then turn back to the crowd.

“The king says that I am in charge of leading the army against the Screaming Meanies!” says Rormen.

The Humanimals begin to murmur. A human jaguar, wearing a brown lion cloth, raises his right hand in the air to get Rormen’s attention.

“Why can’t King Feeon speak for himself?” asks the human jaguar.

Faron gets off his chair and walks to the window.

“Because he is very sick. I think it's a human thing,” answers Faron.

The human jaguar gasps. “Is there anything we can do to help?” the human jaguar asks Faron.

Faron looks down at the crowd and nods. “As Veeule says, it might be a human sickness. Veeule says that an Earthling boy might be able to heal him. He does not know for sure,” answers Faron.

The human jaguar rubs his left shoulder. “How can we find this Earthling if he’s not here? Remember he left with his Earth girl,” asks the human jaguar.

Faron points his finger toward Azent Lake. The Humanimals turn and look where Faron is pointing. They notice the black smoke and clouds covering the lake and coming toward their Kingdom.

Raccoono walks to the window and sees that the black clouds are getting closer. Raccoono, Rormen, Faron, and the Humanimals turn to Feeon for guidance. Rormen is still holding Feeon. Feeon’s eyes are shut. There is silence in the air. No one is speaking. At that moment, Feeon knows that they need guidance from the king, which is himself. But Feeon feels too weak to talk and give orders. So he whispers in Rormen’s ear.

“On second thought you and my son will stay here and protect me. Raccoono and Tigeron will lead the army,” whispers Feeon.

Rormen nods and begins to speak to the Humanimals below.

“The king says that Faron and I will protect Feeon from the army that is coming! Raccoono and Tigeron will lead our army against them!” repeats Rormen.

One Human bull, wearing a yellow vest, a dark green apron, and a green glove, raises his right hand.

“Yes Bullatron?” asks Rormen.

“I think I know where Tigeron might be,” says Bullatron.

“Where?” asks Rormen.

“Tigeron left with the two Earthlings on a quest. I saw him leaving with them. I also heard them saying that they are looking for the old man from the Earthling World. But don’t take it the wrong way. They did not leave because they are scared of the Screaming Meanies. Trust me, they probably knew the risk of the outside world. They left because the Earthling boy wants to go back to his world. He does not know who he is or what power he has. He gave Feeon’s powers back. So now we need someone to find Tigeron and the Earthlings,” says Bullatron.

Rormen nods and sighs. “Why didn’t they tell us?” asks Rormen to Bullatron.

“Probably because they knew that we would try to stop them,” answers Bullatron.

“Why didn’t you stop them Bullatron? After all, you saw them,” asks Rormen.

“This is the Earthlings quest and he needs to explore our world for him to remember it. But that’s just my answer. I don’t expect you to like my answer,” says Bullatron.

Rormen looks around to choose three Humanimals. Grizzlyon walks by the crowd to see what is going on. He joins the crowd. Bearon walks in front of the crowd put his hands on his hips and stick out his furry chest. Grizzlyon sees his brother, Bearon, in front of the crowd. Grizzlyon begins to speak.

“I will find Tigeron!” shouts Grizzlyon.

Rormen searches the crowd to see who is speaking. Grizzlyon walks to the front of the crowd. He stands right by Bearon.

“I will find Tigeron!” repeats Grizzlyon.

Bearon moves his left hand on Grizzlyon’s right shoulder.

“But you hate Tigeron. You can’t stand his whining. Let me find him,” says Bearon.

Grizzlyon shakes his head. “No, my brother, I need to find him. I know where he is. He is at Horrors castle!” says Grizzlyon.

The Humanimals gasp when they hear what Grizzlyon is saying about Tigeron.

“How do you know that?” Bearon asks Grizzlyon.

Grizzlyon turns around and points at the dark clouds over the lake.

“Before there were dark clouds, there was a tornado. I saw lightning and signs of my symbols in the sky. That happened many years ago. It has happened again two days ago. That could only mean one thing. Many years ago, Horror sacrificed the first Humanimal and two days ago he did it again. And now that Tigeron has gone missing, I believe that Horror has him,” explains Grizzlyon.

Bearon moves his other hand on Grizzlyon’s other shoulder.

“I will go with you, brother. It’s been a long time since we’ve been on a quest.” Bearon smiles proudly at Grizzlyon.

Grizzlyon smiles back at his brother Bearon. He puts his right hand on Bearon’s left shoulder.

“Thank you brother,” says Grizzlyon.

Up in the tower, Rormen clears his throat. “That settles the first quest. Now we need someone to find the two young Earthlings,” says Rormen.

A small young brown human coyote steps forward in front of Grizzlyon and Tigeron. “I will go!” says the little human coyote.

Rormen shakes his head. “No, Jonas! You are too young!” shouts Rormen.

Jonas lowers his head in disappointment.

“I will go with little Jonas!” a bold voice shouts from the back of the crowd.

Everyone turns to look and see who is speaking from the back of the crowd.

They see a creature that is a combination of an eagle and a centaur. He has a dark yellow beak. His body is dark purple. His chest and abs were light purples. He has a yellow mohawk with blue tips on the top of his head. The horse part of his body is also purple. His feet are bird-like talons. He carries a sharp pointy spear. Everyone gazes in awe at the eagle-centaur-like creature. They clear a path for him as he moves forward through the crowd.

“It’s an Animator. These guys are legends,” says Jonas.

The Animataur continues to move forward through the crowd towards the tower. Feeon notices the Animataur and smiles.

“It’s Howak, one of the three Animataur warriors,” whispers Feeon.

Howak arrives at the front of the crowd. He looks up at Rormen. Howak bows down to Feeon. Little Jonas runs to Howak and hugs his right front horse leg.

“Thank you for volunteering to go with me. I’ve always wanted to meet an Animataur! This is truly an honor,” chuckles Jonas.

Howak looks down at Jonas and tilts his head back up. He clears his throat. Jonas lets go of Howak’s leg and look up at Rormen and Feeon.

Rormen whispers to Feeon. “Are these warriors worthy to go on their quest, your majesty?” whispers Rormen.

Feeon slowly nods his head. Rormen responds by nodding back, and then he turns back to the crowd.

“You may all go on your quests!” Rormen raises his left hand. “Now go and be safe! Return with the Earthlings and Tigeron!” shouts Rormen.

Grizzlyon, Bearon, Jonas, and Howak all bow. Jonas gets on Howak’s horseback. Howak runs to the gates, then stops in front of them with caution. Grizzlyon and Bearon run to the gates and stop as well. Rormen shouts at the two Human bull’s guarding the outside of the doors.

“Open the gates!” shouts Rormen.

The gates do not open. Jonas swallows and looks up a Howak. “What's happening? Why won’t they open?” asks Jonas.

Howak shrugs his shoulders. Grizzlyon bends his knees, ready to jump over the wall. Bearon looks at Grizzlyon’s legs as they are bending.

“Brother, what are you doing?” asks Bearon.

Grizzlyon, using the strength of his legs, leaps to the top of the wall. When he arrives at the top his eyes widen with shock. He gasps in fear. Seven of the ten Human Raccoons have arrows in their hearts. They are all dead. Grizzlyon looks towards the lake and sees many Screaming Meanies walking toward the kingdom.

Bearon, Jonas, and Howak wait for Grizzlyon.

“What do you see?” asks Bearon.

Grizzlyon looks down at the others. “The Screaming Meanies are here!” shouts Grizzlyon.

The adult Humanimals quickly lead the young ones to safety. They lead them to an underground shelter beneath a house. Bullatron helps lead the young ones underground.

“Follow me young ones!” shouts Bullatron.

Bullatron runs to the underground shelter. He lifts the trap door to reveal the stairs that lead underground. “Come on, hurry!” shouts Bullatron.

One little human sheep taps on Bullatron’s arm. “Why can’t our fathers come with us?” asks the sheep child.

Bullatron kneels in front of the human sheep child and rubs his head. “Because your fathers have to fight the bad guys and make them go away. Don’t worry, we are trained Humanimals and the Screaming Meanies have just been resurrected. That means they aren’t prepared for war. We are prepared, don’t worry little one,” answers Bullatron.

The little human sheep nods and walks down the stairs.

“Are you all in there?” shouts Bullatron.

The little ones nod.

“Good. Now, I need you all to stay underground until the battle is over,” says Bullatron.

The young ones nod their heads to respond. They are frightened. But they know that the battle might is too dangerous for them. Bullatron closes the trap door. He locks it and runs to the crowd of Humanimals.

Grizzlyon, Bearon, Jonas, and Howak run from Azent Kingdom to begin their quests.
