Chapter 23: An Unwelcome Greeting

I fly for many hours. I escaped from the Scorpiono Tunnels. Megan got injured by a deadly stinger and I need to find a sorcerer to heal her soon.

I reach into my backpack and grasp something that can be very useful right now. It is a compass. I do not remember packing a compass, but I might have done it when I was packing before I entered this world.

I look at my compass and it points in the right direction. I hover faster than ever. I think it feels like flying on a plane even though I’ve never been on one before.

Many more hours pass by and I finally make it to the kingdom that I saw in the distance on the map. I stop hovering and land on the ground. The kingdom looks dark and dreary. Dark stormy clouds hover over it and lightning and thunder shake the dark skies. I can smell the black dead trees that surround the kingdom. They smell like burnt wood. A very high wall surrounds the kingdom. I feel like I do not want to go in there because it looks dark and unsafe. But then nothing seems safe in this new world.

I make up my mind and decide to enter. I fly as fast as I can to the entrance of the wall. I knock on the huge black gates.

“Hello!” I shout.

No one answers.

I notice that the gates are locked. So I hover right over the wall. I am finally in the kingdom. I cannot believe my eyes. The kingdom has black stone houses and tall towers. The towers and the houses look like they are in ruins. I can smell the burnt stone as I stare at one of the black towers. It seems like a war was fought here, or a volcano erupted, or something with fire destroyed this kingdom.

I do not see anybody around.

I walk around to explore. “Hello!” I shout again and still no one answers.

I am not ready to give up. I keep looking around to find somebody, anybody. I just hope it’s a sorcerer. I see a man behind one of the tall black towers. From the looks of it, he seems very frightened. He has a short black beard, dark grey pants, a brown vest, and long black hair. His clothes look a bit dirty and burnt. I slowly walk to him. The man gasps and runs into a tower door. I run after him. The man runs up into the tower, I continue to follow him. “Wait!” I shout.

The terrified man keeps on running away from me and up to the top of the tower. I finally make it to the top. The man is trapped and looks scared in my presence.

“Calm down,” I say.

He won’t stop shaking. I stretch out my right hand to shake his hand. He gasps in terror and does not see where he is stepping back. His legs trip over the stone railing and he falls down the tower. I gasp and hover towards the falling man. I grab the man’s arms before he reaches the ground. I gently put him down. The scared man pants in fear and stares at me. He seems very confused.

He points at me with his right finger. “You saved me. Why Dragon?” asks the scared man.

I rub my head. “Because I…I…” I don’t know how to answer his question.

I just wanted to know why he was scared before and if there are any sorcerers here. Three knights in black armor run to the man that I’ve just saved. Their armor makes them look mighty and bold. I cannot tell if their armor is made out of black iron or if they are burnt. They stare at me and I stare back at them. I gulp then wave at them with a nervous smile. The three black knights take out their swords and point them at me.

“Dragon!” shouts one of the knights.

I jump and hover away from the black knights. My left eye sees more black knights running out of the stone towers. Black knights are running everywhere and they don’t seem happy to see me. They take out their bows and arrows and start to aim at me. I don’t think I’ll be very good at dodging arrows. They are all around me and I cannot escape the arrows. I’ll have to try to dodge them.

“Fire!” shouts one of the black knights.

They all fire their arrows at me. They are flying everywhere. I begin to dodge them and some of them miss me by an inch. I have no idea how I can dodge so many arrows.

“That’s weird. I can hear the arrows flying before they come to me,” I whisper to myself.

I have had enough of this dodging. I hover towards the wall to try and escape.

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

“Maybe I’ll find another sorcerer somewhere else, but not here,” I think. Considering that they don’t like dragons.

A net flies over me and traps me. I fall onto the ground and land on my back. I struggle and try to rip the net, but it is no use. The net feels like its Dragon proof. I take a deep breath and I’m about to blow out some fire to burn the net. Then I feel a very sharp sword touching my Dragon belly.

I look ahead and the sword is held by a black knight. “Don’t even think about it,” threatens the black knight.

I gulp in fear and swallow my fire. I breathe out some thick grey smoke. Angry black knights surround me. I can feel their sharp spears and swords touching my Dragon belly. I could die from this. They could just stab me but they hesitate. They’re only making sure that I am not going anywhere.

One spear presses onto my belly. “Let’s kill it!” shouts one of the knights.

I was afraid that someone might say that. “Do they hate Dragons?” I whisper.

I hope that they don’t do horrible things to me. But judging by the looks on their faces, they seem very scared and very angry around me.

One knight raises his right fist. “Let’s hang him by the neck till he’s dead!” shouts the knight.

Another knight shakes his head. “No, you fool! He can fly! I say we tie him up and throw him over a waterfall!” he shouts.

I feel even more afraid of what they might do to me. I gasp and shut my eyes tightly while gnashing my teeth.

A black knight draws his sharp dagger from his pouch. “I say we chain him in shackles and cut his gut! Make his kind suffer for what they did to us!” shouts the knight.

All of the knights begin to bicker amongst themselves. They are arguing about how they should kill me. I would just fly away and escape but the knights are still surrounding me with arrows, sharp swords, and spears.

I see another knight coming towards me. “You will do nothing!” he shouts.

The crowd quiets down and then makes a pathway for the knight.

“General Boris,” says a black knight.

General Boris nods to respond. The last few black knights stop bickering and turn to the general. General Boris has black armor but he is very shiny and glimmering. He has long blond hair and a short beard. He looks very tough. He has a sword through his belt on his right hip.

The man that I saved whispers to General Boris. General Boris whispers back.

“Is this the Dragon that saved you?” asks Boris to the man.

The man nods. “Yes sir. He’s the one,” he answers.

General Boris walks towards me. He kneels and stares into my eyes. It seems like he knows I am afraid to die here. “Do you want to live?” whispers General Boris.

I do not know why he is asking me that question but I am glad that he did. I don’t feel like speaking because I am terrified. I nod.

“Then be honest with me. Did your kind kill our women and children?” whispers Boris.

I have no idea what he is talking about. If I tell him that I don’t know he will think that I am lying. I don’t what to do. But he did say to be honest with him.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. My name is Daniel Mark Tony and I am an Earthling boy from Earth I changed into this Dragon by accident,” I answer.

At least I was honest with him. I just hope that the General will believe me.

General Boris nods. “I don’t believe that you are a boy. But I do believe that you don’t know about our women and our children,” he whispers back to me.

General Boris stands up and looks at his fellow black knights.

“He is innocent! Set him free!” orders, Boris.

The knights do not set me free. They don’t move. They are all speechless. General Boris sighs and walks up to me. He takes out his sword.

I gasp in fear and then shut my eyes. “Wait, don’t!” I shout.

But I never feel the stab. I open my eyes and see the net is cut. I am free. I stand up and look at General Boris. “Thanks,” I say.

General Boris puts his sword back in his pouch. “Don’t thank me yet,” he whispers.

General Boris points at two black knights. “You two take him to the dungeon,” orders Boris.

The two black knights lock an iron shackle on my neck. One knight pulls me with chains, while the other one pokes my back with his spear as he forces me to walk away.

General Boris gently grabs my right shoulder. “I want to talk to you alone in the dungeon tonight,” he whispers.

I do not respond.

“Take him away!” shouts General Boris.

One of the black knights starts to search my backpack. General Boris notices the knight looking in my backpack.

General Boris shakes his head. “It's bad luck to look at the possessions of a Dragon,” says General Boris.

The knight drops my backpack. General Boris takes my backpack and holds onto it. What can I do? I have no ideas in my mind. If I don’t get some help soon, Megan’s gone for good.

I decide I need to get General Boris’s attention. He seems like an honest guy. I blow out my fire breath which startles the two knights and they let go of the chains. I turn to General Boris. He seems calm.

“General Boris, a girl, my friend, got hurt by a Scorpiono!” I shout.

General Boris walks towards me and whispers in my left ear. “Tell me where she is and I will help her. But I cannot release you. You will have to go to the dungeon. At night I will free you,” he whispers.

I nod. I look around and all of the knights are shaking in fear.

“Why are the knights afraid of a Dragon? Aren’t Dragons supposed to be protectors?” I ask General Boris.

“I can’t tell you right now. I’ll explain tonight in the dungeon,” answers General Boris.

I have no idea if he is telling the truth or not but I have no choice but to trust him.

“She’s in the Misty Valley,” I whisper to General Boris.

General Boris nods.

I am forced into a dark, wet, cold dungeon. I sit with chains from the wall holding my neck. General Boris points at two archers that have crossbows then points at the dungeon door. The two archers guard the door.

General Boris lowers his finger. “If the dragon breathes fire or tries anything at all, shoot him,” he orders.

The two archers nod. They both aim their crossbows at me. General Boris looks at me and winks. I assume that I should trust him. One of the knights taps on General Boris’s shoulder

General Boris walks away from the dungeon. Now all I can do is wait to see if General Boris can be trusted.
