Chapter 7 - War

Ocean took a deep breath.

She closed her eyes and breathed as she felt huge amounts of Mana, coursing through her veins. She then heard a voice inside her head, telling her to move, to release all of that energy. Calmly, Ocean opened her eyes and swept her gaze towards all the enemies surrounding her. Her blood boiled from seeing them for some reason, twisting her expression into one of savagery.

And then, they pounced at her.

With claws bared and eyes shining in an intense blue light, the unknown creatures jumped towards her. So with her hands firmly holding the hilt of the sword, Ocean reacted instinctively and spun her whole body, slicing everything that came near her into pieces.

Ocean didn't stop spinning, like an unstoppable tornado, she spun her body around. She then increased her speed and spun faster, and faster, then even faster, until every single creature in the area were all ripped to shreds, leaving nothing but bits and pieces of their corpses.

Ocean, noticing that there were no more enemies left, calmed down and slowly stopped spinning. She stabbed the massive sword on the ground then observed her surroundings, and was a bit disgusted by the carnage she had caused.

She couldn't even think of proper words to describe what she was seeing, and wasn't even sure how she managed to do this. But she did know one thing for certain though, and that was that right now, for the first time in her life, she felt powerful.

Ocean then suddenly felt the ground shake and rumble. The blood on the ground, which was a mix between red and blue, started to ripple continuously as the earth continued to quake.

The buildings around her, or at least what was left of them, then broke down, throwing dust and debris everywhere, blocking Ocean's vision. A strong gust of wind then blew, driving away the clouds of dust, finally making Ocean able to see her surroundings. When she saw an ever increasing horde of these creatures surrounding her, however, Ocean couldn't help but gulp. Her hand then reached for the sword and carried it above her shoulder. She then glared at her enemies and taunted them,

"Well? What are you waiting for? Come..!"

Immediately after, the horde ran towards her in a maniac frenzy. Feeling her blood boiling once more, Ocean couldn't help but grin as her enemies approached.

Terron hovered above Ocean's location with a smile on his face.

He honestly had second thoughts about lending his sword to Ocean, but seeing as how she was mercilessly and effortlessly decimating every Fiend that came her way, he knew he made the right choice. It was a bit of a shame that everyone in the village died, but it was all worth it for him, just so he could see how Ocean would react to death of this scale.

And Terron was not disappointed.

To see Ocean walk through the piles of corpses without being disturbed or disgusted….

It pleased him greatly.

Terron still had work to do though, so with his wings spread out, he roused up the Holy Power within him, and with his eyes glowing in a blinding, gray light, he spoke,

"[ Souls of the innocent, the damned, and the pure. Come to me, to the Angel of Ash and Fire, for I shall send your souls to where they rightfully belong. ]"

Immediately after, unseen by everyone nearby, gray spectral forms of those who died in the village rose up from their corpses and flew towards Terron. The souls all gathered towards Terron's outstretched palm, and condensed themselves to form a small, gray pearl.

"I guess I'll be visiting Purgatory later…"

Terron muttered to himself as he shifted his gaze towards Ocean, still busy swinging her sword and massacring the Fiends. He then raised his head and his eyes narrowed, as he saw a meteor, one that was bigger than the others, falling towards his direction.

"Seems like the boss finally decided to show himself."

Terron said so as he roused up his Holy Power once more. And with his body covered in ashen colored flames, he glared fiercely at the incoming enemy.

In the past, when Ocean was just a young girl, she once asked her mother,

'Mom, why is my name Ocean?'

She remembered seeing her mother smiling at her warmly as she caressed her head and replied,

'Because I saw it once… when I was a child… the ocean… it was beautiful as it was vast… it was amazing… '

Ocean's mother then leaned in and kissed her forehead and continued,

'And then… I had you… and when I saw you as a baby, laying silently in my arms… I couldn't help but think of the ocean I once saw…'

Ocean remembered her mother's warm embrace she gave her after she said that, she then smiled when she heard what her mother said next.

'One day… I'm sure you'll see it too—'

Ocean suddenly snapped out of her thoughts when she felt a tingling sensation on her neck. She hurriedly ducked down, dodging the creature's attack, and swung her sword to the back, instantly ripping it in two.

For a quick second, Ocean wondered why she suddenly remembered that conversation, but immediately stopped thinking about it because of her current situation.

Ocean steadied herself, holding her sword up with both of her hands. She then dashed towards the nearest enemy and brought her sword down, slicing the creature from its head to its groin. Without wasting even a second, she moved towards a group of five creatures… five… Fiends… running towards her, and swung her sword horizontally, separating their waists from their torsos.

"Fiends…"

Ocean muttered to herself with a blank look on her face, but immediately snapped out of it and jumped back, dodging a Fiend's attack. She then held the hilt of her sword tightly and thrusted it, piercing through the Fiend's chest.

And in one swift motion, Ocean pulled out the blade from the Fiend's chest and readied herself again, only to be shocked when she noticed the Fiends not charging towards her anymore

Ocean looked at her surroundings and saw the Fiends keeping their distance from her. She then lowered her head and her eyes grew wide. Ocean finally realized why she suddenly remembered her conversation with her mother all those years ago. It was because she was in the middle of it… the ocean… though this one wasn't as beautiful as her mother told her…

Ocean was now standing in the middle of an ocean of blood, blood from all the Fiends she had killed, and blood from all the innocents that died.

Thick, blue liquid, the blood of Fiends, flooded her surroundings, dyeing her ragged clothes blue. Ocean's head then finally cooled down and finally realized what she had done, making her let go of her sword. She lowered her head and looked at her shaking hands and stuttered as she said,

"W-What…"

"She snapped out of the trance, huh…"

Terron muttered to himself as he made eye contact with a Fiend, one that was three times larger than the others. It had four horns on top of its head, and its eyes, that would have normally been blue, were radiating intense, red light. The Fiend then took out its sword, one that had a blade as long as its arm, and was dark as the one Terron owned.

Now, here in a world that was drained of all color, surrounded by nothing but broken buildings, on this hot, barren land, Terron and the Fiend faced each other.

Terron, still wearing his suit, suddenly dashed towards the Fiend, with his hands, coated in his ashen flames. The Fiend simply held out its palm, however, and easily caught Terron's punch. It felt its skin burn from Terron's flames, but only grunted and swung his arm, throwing Terron into the air.

Thrown by the Fiend, Terron hurriedly spread out his wings to stop himself, and hovered in the air. He watched the Fiend glare at him, as he roused up his Holy Power and conjured a sword made of flames. And with a small grin on his face, he flapped his wings hard and dived towards the Fiend with his fiery sword, burning intensely.

In a grassy plain where thousands of Fiends were rampaging, Lucifer and his battalion of Angels swung their swords at every Fiend that came their way. They had been fighting for hours now and had already run out of Holy Power, forcing Lucifer to dispel his Domain so he could save his energy reserves.

They were growing exhausted. Everytime they swung their swords, they could feel themselves getting weaker and weaker, and no matter how many Fiends they cut down, their numbers didn't seem to decrease.

Lucifer shifted his gaze towards a nearby mountain, where he could see a gigantic pit on the side, made by the meteor the Fiends crashed in with.

"Damn it..!"

Lucifer cursed as he cut down three Fiends with his sword in a single swing. His looked towards Michael who did the same, and called out to him,

"Michael..!"

Michael's head instantly turned to Lucifer, awaiting his command. Lucifer then flapped his wings and flew into the sky, and with sword bursting into flames, he told Michael,

"Retreat with the others..! I'll buy you some time..!"

Michael's eyes grew wide, shocked by Lucifer's command. He had worked under Lucifer for hundreds of years and this was the first time he had ever heard him giving the command to retreat. For Lucifer to say that…

The situation seemed far more dire than he thought…

Michael nodded his head in response to Lucifer's order, and swung his sword, beheading a Fiend that charged towards him. He then flew into the sky and yelled,

"Everyone..! Retre—"

Michael couldn't finish what he was going to say, however, because his voice was drowned out by a deafening sound of an explosion. Michael then felt intense heat, sizzling his skin, making him turn around to where he felt it was coming from.

And for the second time today, Michael was shocked once more.

A massive pillar of light from the sky dropped towards the earth and disintegrated every single Fiend that was hit by it, leaving nothing but dust. Michael turned his head to Lucifer, wondering if he was responsible of this, only for Lucifer to shake his head and say,

"This power belongs to Terron's brother…"

Lucifer paused, and watched in awe as hundreds of Fiends got killed by the light in a matter of seconds, before continuing,

"Huron."
