Chapter 14 - Vincula Aurum

Chapter 14 - Vincula Aurum

Silence descended on the Grand Chamber as the Archangels, under the supervision of two of the strongest Angels in Heaven, Terron and Metatron, moved busily around the roundtable, carefully observing and noting down every noticable difference between Ocean and a normal mortal's body.

Meanwhile, Terron and Metatron, who already knew about the changes in Ocean's body, stood at the far end of the Grand Chamber as they observed the Archangels. Terron then asked,

"Why exactly are you here, Metatron?"

Metatron, remaining indifferent, keenly observed the Archangels examining Ocean's body. He then replied,

"I wanted to see it with my own eyes… The future leaders of Heaven, working together…"

His gaze then turned towards the unconscious Ocean and continued,

"I also wanted to get a closer look at one of God's greatest creations…."

"Hmm."

Terron grunted softly as he observed the Archangels working as well. But as time continued to pass and they both stood there in complete silence, Terron couldn't help it anymore and suddenly said,

"Metatron, earlier I—"

"Heard the voice of God… I know…"

Metatron interrupted and finished what Terron was going to say. His head then turned to Terron and looked him in the eyes as he said,

"The Almighty has sent me here to deliver one final message to you, Terron. Today's events will lead to many changes in the future. Not just for the Mortals of Earth, but for the entirety of every being in this Universe…"

Metatron faced away from Terron and turned to watch Ocean. He then continued,

"And that mortal… her survival will decide our fate, our future… It won't be an exaggeration to say that Heaven's fate lies entirely with her…"

Metatron then glimpsed at his side, where he saw Terron intently staring at him. He then said in a soft voice,

"Because of that, Terron… God has asked me to tell you this… Protect her, teach her, and help her grow…"

Metatron once again faced Ocean direction and looked at her with conflicted eyes. And in firm and resolute voice, he said,

"Become her Guardian Angel, Terron."

On the peak of the tallest mountain on Earth, Terron sat silently. He thought back to what Metatron said to him earlier, about Ocean, about their fate, and about him being her Guardian Angel…

He had lived for more than 20 million years now, and in that time, he had experienced and seen many things. And during those times, he experienced feeling a myriad of emotions, such as love, joy, and excitement…

The only problem was that in the end, no matter what he did, his stories, the lives he had lived with the people he once cared about always ended with pain and sorrow…

Because of that, he had mostly cut off his emotions towards mortals, towards the fragile beings God had created, and roamed the Earth instead, observing them as they lived their lives…

It was lonely, he had to admit. But he was used to it. He could live for a million years without interacting with anyone if he had to. But sometimes, just sometimes, he gets sick of always being alone…

So occasionally, Terron goes to Heaven, God's Sanctuary. He goes there to form relationships, to befriend his fellow Angels, so he could ease his loneliness….

But it was impossible. The Angels were born out of the purest souls of the humans that died, and because of that, their mortal emotions were still present.

Some of them revered him for being God's first Angel, while others feared him because of the power he held.

Reverence and fear.

Those were the only things that his fellow Angels felt for him. That's why it was impossible to form any meaningful relationships with them…

He did have his brother, though. Huron, a perfect copy of Terron. God had created him 13 million years after the creation of Earth. He was created to be better than Terron in every possible way, in terms of power and intelligence, so he could guide the Angels in Heaven while Terron roamed the Earth.

And while it did take some time, the brothers eventually became close and were able to act intimately towards each other. Terron was able to ease his loneliness with Huron's help.

But it still hadn't changed anything. Terron still remained mostly indifferent towards the lives of others, to the point where he wasn't qualified to lead the Order of Angels anymore….

That's why he thought it was hard for him to fulfill what Metatron had said. To become Ocean's master and protector, to become her Guardian Angel…

It seemed impossible…

So as Terron sat there, continuing to mull over his past, he suddenly heard the sound of flapping wings above him, followed by the sound of feet, landing on the soft, snowy ground.

He turned his head to where the noise was coming from, only to see Huron walking towards him. His face looked even paler than before and exhaustion was evident on his face, making Terron sigh as he stood up and greeted him,

"Brother."

Huron did a small wave as he arrived next to Terron and immediately sat down, letting out a deep sigh as he did so. Seeing this, Terron decided to sit down with him.

And just like that, the two brothers silently sat together as they both thought about the problems plaguing their minds. The thought of confining with each other about their thoughts never even crossed their minds as they sat there silently. For they knew that no matter what problem each of them faced, they believed they would be able to solve it, no matter what…

And just like that, time passed…

Seconds turned to minutes, minutes turned to hours, and the sun that was once high up in the sky had finally begun to set. And as the brother's sat there, watching the sun set in the distant horizon, Huron suddenly said,

"Thank you."

He then stood up, dusted off the snow that piled on top of him, and unfurled his wings. And without saying anything else, he flapped his wings hard, instantly launching himself towards the sky. He then continued to fly upwards, towards Heaven's invisible doorway.

Terron, watching his brother fly towards Heaven, suddenly had a thought, making him let out a chuckle and mutter to himself,

"Well, if he's trying his best… maybe I should too."

Inside the Grand Chamber, the Archangels surrounded the roundtable Ocean was lying on, still continuing with their examination.

Except one.

Lucifer was sitting on one of the chairs just behind them, thinking about their plans for the future. He thought about how to combat the threat of Demons, previously known as Fiends. He wondered if the Angels of Heaven would be able to fight them in their current state.

He turned to his fellow Archangels, Michael, Azrael, Kael, Beelzebub, Abaddon, Mammon, Belphegor, Asmodeus, and Anos, who were all working together to finish the task they were given. Lucifer looked at them and wondered if they had the necessary strength to fight off the Demons, when—

"You guys can stop now."

—a voice interrupted his thoughts. Lucifer then saw Terron slowly walking towards the table, making all the Archangels instantly back away, still frightened from the earlier incident. Terron then looked at the faces of every Archangel in the Grand Chamber and said,

"Metatron has a new task for you."

He lowered his head and looked at Ocean with with an indifferent gaze before continuing,

"Gather 4,000 kilograms of gold, 50 of the purest sapphires you can find, and bring them here."

After saying so, Michael suddenly raised his hand, making Terron nod his head, prompting Michael to speak.

"If you don't mind, Lord Terron… May we know the reason why you need those materials?"

Terron, hearing this, stared at Michael for a while before responding,

"To craft restraints."

He then pointed at Ocean and continued,

"For her. It has been decided that she will be freed to the mortal world, under the condition that her strength will be restrained."

Lucifer suddenly stood up, and with narrowed eyes, he looked towards Terron and asked,

"But why? Why free her when she can stay here in Heaven and fight for us? To have a being as powerful as her restrained and sent away—"

Terron's Holy Power suddenly surged, quickly spreading towards every corner of the Grand Chamber, completely overwhelming all the Archangels, forcing them all to fall on their knees. And with tinge of rage in his voice, Terron said,

"Lucifer."

Terron's entire body then flare up with ashen colored flames as he glared at Lucifer, before continuing,

"I will not have you question God's order."

Sweat poured from Lucifer's forehead as he shook in fear while he kneeled. And after hearing what Terron said, he realized Metatron's task for them was an order from God, making him smash his head to the floor, and with gritted teeth, he struggled as he said,

"I… apologize..! Lord Terron..!"

Immediately after, Terron's raging Holy Power instantly calmed down and disappeared, along with the immense pressure that fell down on the Archangels. The Archangels then sighed in relief, thinking that it was finally over, when they suddenly heard Terron's cold voice,

"Now leave. Do as you were told and then return to the Grand Chamber."

Terrified, the Archangels quickly stormed out of the Grand Chamber and went out to complete their tasks, leaving Terron all alone. Terron then looked down the peacefully sleeping Ocean, and with a complicated look on his face, he said,

"Rest well, child. For this will be the only time in your life where you'll be able to sleep in peace."
