The Beginning

"So you're saying that you'll pay off my parent's debts, pay off the mortgage of our house, and give my siblings a full scholarship to college." 15-year-old Jason said as he stared at the elegantly dressed man seated in front of him. The man was sitting in a modern office rolling chair. His wooden desk framed by the magnificent view of the city behind him.

"Yes. All that you have to do is sign this paper and we will ensure that all of the above happens." The man smiled as he handed Jason a contract adorned with a black and gold trim along the edges.

"Sir, I may be young and immature, but I'm not stupid enough to fall for something like this," Jason stated with a hint of indignation and anger.

"Yes, yes we knew this was going to happen. Here is proof, we are serious. we have wired the total amount of money needed to pay off the debts and mortgages your household had accumulated." The man replied impatiently and he gestured for Jason to check his phone. Jason looked at his phone and saw the notification.

[10 million USD has been deposited into your account]

Jason's eyes bulged as he glanced at the smirking man and looked back at his phone to confirm the miracle he saw. He controlled the rush of happiness and joy flooding into him. He looked at the man with suspicion eyes "Okay, what do you want from me?"

The man adopted a cunning smile. "You. To be exact, your body, mind, and skill. You, Jason Archer will work for us for 20 years. During that time, we will provide you with your room and board. But in return, you will follow our commands absolutely and never tell a single soul about this. We have many ways to ensure the safety of our secrets, believe me when I say this is the least we can do. We will provide you with benefits beyond your imagination, but you will have to go through trials that will redefine the word hell"

He paused and looked Jason in the eye with a serious expression. "Young man, this is a decision that will change you forever. Think carefully."

Jason replied as quickly as he could. "Sir with all due respect, those benefits you listed are good enough for 50, maybe even 60 years of my life. If you can truly do what you promised, then I will do anything. I accept."

The cunning smile returned to the man's face. as he handed him a black pen. "Alright then, I wish you good luck."

After looking over the contract and signing it, a sudden flash of light appeared on Jason's head. Although he did notice it, he dismissed it as just a reflection of the light. He looked the man firmly in the eyes and asked. "Now what?"

The man’s tone became firm. "You will now be sent to the training camp. Go home and pack your bags and say goodbye. You won't be seeing your family for a few years after all."

"Alright, ill be on my way then" Jason made a polite nod to the man and started to leave the 20 storied building.

Crossing the street he looked back and gazed at the building where he may have just sold his soul, and just tried to understand how he was able to get 10 million dollars in return for a few years of his life. He could not understand how he was able to get away with that steal and was still scared that he had just signed an organ sellers contract or a slave contract.

“Well,” he thought “if this money is real, then I'm fine with selling myself for them.”

He turned back and started to think of how he would break the news to his family. As he imagined his family scolding him on signing something that would take away his prime years, his shoulders naturally stiffened.

The man admired Jason’s proud stance as he walked away from the building, his shoulders set as if a huge burden had been lifted from them. He looked outside at the dark and hazy night. Luminous neon signs and bustling crowds completed the image of the bustling city he admired.

"Well... it begins." He declared to the empty room.
