40- Moonlit Confession pt. 8

"No." Ichi shook his head.

"You don't know anything - Ichi - this is insane-" Syon's fingers trembled as she fidgeted with her book. The wire leading to Renya's body twitched.

Ichi's brow furrowed as he stuck his face into Syon's.

"Rikya and her ancient evil fox are here. Myon's here. Even you're here. When do we get out of here? When do you get out of here, out from under the Seer Council's thumb? Does anyone like living like this? Are you proud of being shipped around the world being their little assassin girl, or is it that you want an excuse to watch your twin sister get ripped apart?"

Syon's face froze as she dropped her pen and notebook. The wire leading to Renya's body swerved on the rooftop, but Syon was too distracted by Ichi's challenge to see it.

"I am not a good person - and this village is not a desirable situation for anyone - but that is not the issue. There are too many unknown factors. The Burncastle's sealed spirit freed. Rikya herself. Myon not informing me. Your - body - that stick. Renya's betrayal. And the 'Worst'. Only I know his real identity. Fighting him will kill us all - and–"

Syon breathed in deep summoning all her strength. The wire from Syon's silver cross flailed wildly. Her face changed. Her slate grey eyes gained a shine, her brows furrowing.

"I will protect Myon no matter what. I love her. I have nothing else."

Ichi's brows went crooked as he stared at her imitation of a hero.

"Idiyon, the best thing for Myon would be for you to never talk to her again."

Syon looked down and averted her eyes.

"I know that - better than anyone."

Ichi tried to grab Syon, but she danced back twitching her iron fan and covering him in frost. Ichi tore through the ice.

"You're better off dead." Ichi growled at her.

"Even I..." Syon whispered.

"If you'd just give me back my shikigami, and let Renya go from your puppet string so we can get back to trying to kill each other, at least she's honest! You'd disgust me a little bit less. A little."

"Even I have feelings, Ichi."

"That's obvious, Idiyon. This isn't about you," Ichi flung his arm out gesturing to the forest where Rikya waited, the mountaintop where Myon sat. "This is about all of us. We're trying our best. You're ruining everything."

Syon's eyes teared up as she yelled back.

"This is about you! You will lead all my pieces to meaningless deaths! You're exactly like your father! He took everything from me. I have nothing. You are all puppets to me. I know that is not right - but my Myon and I survived more than you could ever understand, Ichi." Syon looked at Ichi's eyes challenging him.

"I am strong. Everyone will live happily - if they would listen to me."

Syon's wire went taut. The wire snaped flying free with the wind behind her. The shine of the loose wire in the moonlight caught Syon and Ichi's eyes.

Before either of them could move, Renya put her lips over Syon's. She pressed into Syon's face, her blue eyes wide open staring into Syon's slate eyes. Syon's eyes shimmered and her eyebrows relaxed as tears pooled down her face. Syon twitched her iron fan. A pillar of ice formed and shot out of the sky slamming Renya's body off the rooftop.

Syon's knees collasped under her as she rubbed her mouth, then spat. Silver fluid hit the rooftop. She breathed heavily and sweat poured from her as her shaking hand reached for her fallen notebook.
