Chapter 73 - Finishing the Job

Chapter 73 - Finishing the Job

The next day, I woke up to two knocks coming from the door. At this point, I figured it must be Oliver or Hana waking me up for breakfast. Yesterday, I did almost all the work there was, so I went to bed relatively late. Truth be told, I'm still sleepy.

"You can come in"

I said as soon as I got out of bed. After a few seconds, the door opened, and a maid entered, keeping an indifferent expression on her face.

"Breakfast is ready, Ren-sama"

Hana said with an inexpressive face.

"I see"

I said as I got up with a yawn. As soon as I got out of bed, I looked down and realized that I was shirtless. To tell you the truth, I hardly brought any clothes with me since I came to this place kind of last minute.

"I will help you get dressed, Ren-sama"

Said Hana as she walked towards me. For some reason, being stared at by a woman was a little embarrassing, but I should get used to it since this is probably normal among nobles.

"Okay, thanks for your help"

I said with an embarrassed smile.

"You don't have to thank me for that, Ren-sama. I'm your employee, so I'm just doing my job"

Hana said with a professional look. After getting dressed, Hana and I walked out into the hallway intending to go to the second floor. But since I had already decided to finish all my work today, I headed towards my office door.

"Hana, bring breakfast to my office, please"

I said as I looked at Hana.

"As you wish, Ren-sama"

Said Hana, heading towards the second floor. After that, I opened my office door and walked to my chair. Compared to yesterday, the number of papers on my desk had decreased a lot. I wanted to solve these problems as quickly as possible to put my ideas into action. First, I would need to prepare a place for plantations. Thanks to the king, I am exempt from paying taxes for a year, but that was only valid this year.

I needed to prepare as quickly as possible for the following year. After sitting down, I started to leaf through the papers. After a few seconds, two knocks came at the door. As I had asked Hana to bring my coffee to my office earlier, I gave her permission to enter while I continued to leaf through the papers.

"Here is breakfast, Ren-sama"

Said Hana, placing a plate containing scrambled eggs with bacon on my desk. While eating the breakfast that Hana had brought, I was continuously signing some important papers that I was picking up. While I was doing this, some questions started running through my head.

(I don't know how far I can ask them to help me. Can I ask them to do something not related to cleaning and cooking for me?)

I thought as I looked at the paper in my hand. After a few seconds, I turned to Hana, determined to ask about it.

"Sorry if this question is a little strange, but... can you guys also help me with something else besides cleaning and preparing meals?"

I asked while looking at Hana, hearing my words, Hana put her hand on her chin, seeming to think about something for a few seconds.

"Let's see... since I am your private maid, I must always stay by your side. But I think you can ask my brother to help you with errands for the inhabitants of the territory and also help with your work involving less secretive documents. Besides, our family has been serving for generations, and we have enough knowledge to assist you in some matters"

Hana said. After hearing her words, I nodded and handed a paper to Hana.

"Ask Oliver to handle this for me. The paper contains the details of what he needs to do"

I said as I handed the paper to Hana. After taking the paper from my hand, Hana nodded.

"Understood, Ren-sama"

Saying those words, Hana turned and walked towards the door. After Hana left, I got up from the chair and looked outside through the gap where the window would be. Almost all around me were trees and the swaying leaves in the wind. As I leaned on the window space, the only thing going through my mind at the moment was what a nice morning it was. While I was at it, I noticed Oliver walking towards the village while holding a piece of paper in his hands.

(I thought he would take a while, but he went as soon as I asked. Although it is more practical to have people helping me, I should ask them not to try too hard)

As I thought about this, I wondered if Oliver and Hana had had breakfast yet. Although I woke up early, it seemed they both woke up even earlier than I did. As that thought crossed my mind, I heard two knocks coming from the door.

"Come in"

As soon as I said that, the door was opened, revealing Hana with her casually inexpressive face.

"Have you and your brother had breakfast yet?"

I asked while looking at Hana. Hearing my question, Hana looked a little confused. From the look on her face, it was possible to see that she was not expecting to receive such a question.

"Yes, my brother and I eat breakfast as soon as we wake up"

Hana said as she looked at me.

"I see... that's good"

I said, not addressing anyone specific. After that, I turned my gaze back to the window and looked outside. I was thinking about my next steps. My future plans consisted of having an area to grow some crops and, in the future, build a ranch to keep chickens, cows, and sheep. Even though this was a goal for the future, it was still something that I wanted very much to accomplish. It would completely change the economy of this place.
