After the brief introduction of the brothers, I gave them space, and they both entered the house. As soon as they entered, they started looking around. To be honest, I hadn't done any cleaning on this second floor yet. The only room that can be considered cleaned on the second floor was where my office will be.
"Since I arrived yesterday, I haven't had much time to clean. I suppose I can only say that my office on the second floor is really clean"
I said with a certain amount of embarrassment. I myself was not understanding why I was feeling this way, to tell you the truth.
"You don't have to worry about that, Ren-sama. My sister and I will take care of your daily chores starting today"
Hearing Oliver's response, a soft smile appeared on my face.
"I see. Since that is the case, I will go to my office. I need to go over some papers that I received when the territory was granted to me by Her Majesty"
I said, receiving a nod from both of them. After that, I started walking up the stairs until I reached a door that is relatively close to the stairs. As soon as I opened the door, my office was in sight.
(I think I will do most of my work here from today on)
I thought with a soft smile on my face. With that thought in mind, I started walking to my desk. As soon as I sat down, I began looking around the room. For some reason, I had a strange sense of commitment in me. It actually makes sense. Many people's lives will be decided in this tiny room. Opening one of the drawers on the table, I took out a small set of papers and started leafing through them.
Some needed confirmation, while others were about the state of the land. Additionally, the papers also detailed the exact number of people, the annual income, and the status of food distribution. Looking at the papers, I realized that there were no crops of any kind on these lands in general. People mainly survived on fishing and hunting in the forest.
(I think the first thing I will do is find a place to grow wheat and other foodstuffs)
I thought as I continued to leaf through the papers I had in hand. I really don't know how much time had passed, but at some point, I heard two small knocks on the door.
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
"You can come in"
I said, thinking it was one of the two brothers. As soon as I said this, a girl about my age walked through the door, holding a tray in her hands. As she approached the table, she removed a cup from the tray and placed it on my table. I felt quite grateful for the gesture since I was in the mood for something to drink.
"Thank you"
I said with a smile, taking a sip from the cup. Hearing my thanks, Hana nodded and started walking towards the door. In a few seconds, I was alone in the room again.
***
(Ah, good, he seems like a nice person)
Hana thought as she handed the cup of tea to her new master. Coming from a family that raised butlers years ago, Hana knew enough about the nobles. Although there are good ones too, and it is undeniable that there are bad ones, Hana knew that there are more bad nobles than good ones.
That was a given in her mind. When she heard that the time had come to serve a new noble who had recently ascended, Hana didn't know exactly what to think. But as luck would have it, she went to a kind and warm-looking master.
With that thought in mind, Hana made her way to the stairs and soon began to descend. From what Hana could see in the short time she had been in the house, there were several places that should be cleaned. As soon as she reached the second floor, Hana spotted her brother with some papers in his hand. As soon as she noticed that her sister had already returned, Oliver walked towards her.
"So, what do you think?"
Oliver asked as he looked at Hana. Hearing her brother's words, Hana began to think about what she knew about her new master so far. Kind and warm—those were the thoughts swirling in Hana's mind.
"He seems to be quite kind. Being honest, I don't think I mind serving him"
Said Hana with a smile on her face. Hearing Hana's words, Oliver put a smile on his face, as their thoughts were quite aligned.
"I also think the same. He gave me a good first impression. Besides, I heard he was a commoner before"
Oliver said. Hearing Oliver's words, Hana thought it made a lot of sense, seeing her new master's previous behavior.
"By the way, what is that you are holding?"
Hana asked as she looked at the papers that were in her brother's hand.
"Oh, that? Those are some documents that I need to give to Ren-sama"
Oliver said.
"Do you want me to take them? You need to do other things, don't you?"
Asked Hana, remembering that there were several tasks to be accomplished. Hearing Hana's words, Oliver mentally thanked her for being so helpful.
"Actually, I am, yes. Thanks for the help"
Said Oliver, handing the documents to Hana.
"Don't worry about it"
Said Hana with a smile. After that, Hana again went up the stairs towards the door where her master's office was. As soon as she knocked twice on the door, a voice could be heard coming from inside.
"Come in"
Upon getting permission, Hana opened the door and entered while carrying the documents in her hand. As soon as she closed the door behind her, Hana started walking towards her master.
"Here are some documents, master"
Said Hana as she placed the documents on the table.
"Thank you"
Said her new master with a soft smile on his face. Looking at that expression, Hana thought that it wouldn't be so bad to serve such a person.
