Chapter 48

In an utterly cluttered room filled with rubble and suspicious dark red stains, Mia and Yuai find themselves investigating their troublesome situation.

The girls walked around the room, searching for clues and possibly an exit.

“Hey Yuai, what do you think this place was used for? Maybe a battleground or something?” Mia asked as she inspected a cluster of broken objects.

“Hm, like, I totally have no idea. I kinda didn’t pay that much attention to the academy. So like I’m totes not knowledgeable about Seiren’s history, yep.”

“Hm, I see. Moreover, what was it like attending the academy? I didn’t ever go to school or anything, so I was hoping that I could get some input on it.”

“You didn’t go to school? That’s like so strange. You totally sound smart about stuff, yep.”

Yuai continued looking around, “Well, I went to the academy like so long ago, so I don’t remember a lot of it, but like I know some stuff. To even get in you have to take this hella hard entrance exam and it’s like really crazy. You have to demonstrate your skills and stuff. But for like the school parts, you just learn the huntsman’s way of life. Also, you gotta learn arcana and battle stuff, yep.”

Mia turned to face Yuai. “Hm, well, I hope this situation resolves peacefully. I think it’d be pretty cool to go to school and get some straightforward information.” Mia turned away and whispered, “The Captain doesn’t explain things very well.”

For several more minutes, the girls continued to look around. Alas, most of the room was just filled with rubble and lacked any notable information.

“Wait, Mia, come check this out, it’s totally important, yep,” Yuai said as she began to pull on a dark cloth hanging from the wall.

Mia jogged over. “Hm?”

Yuai began to pull on it.

Riiiiiiiip!

The cloth sheet began to tear away from the wall.

“Ugh, it’s like so stuck on there. Can you help me out, yep?”

Mia grabbed one end while Yuai held tightly to the other.

The two girls tugged and tugged, eventually ripping the cloth off the wall.

“Whoa.” Mia took a step back, eyes widened with the new discovery.

They both stared at the wall, or specifically at the insignia painted on it.

The black on white pattern looked like an odd shaped ‘3’ with a backward ‘C’ placed to its right.

“Yuai, do you know what that insignia is for?” Mia looked over at her. “Yuai?”

Yuai’s face was filled with horror, her once bubbly smile was turned upside down, and a squad of sweat droplets came down her forehead.

“Oh no, like, this insignia is totally bad news. This insignia is the mark of division six. The division in charge of everything science. And like, to be totally honest, they’re all a bunch of crazies, yep.”

“Do-Don’t say that. It’s not like any of them would be here… Right?”

“Like I can totes agree on that but, I for real have a bad feeling.” Yuai’s expression remained the same, still horrified, still retaining an insurmountable amount of worry.

Suddenly, a large shadow loomed over them, and an accompanying deep breath followed.

If you encounter this narrative on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

MMMmmmmmm.

Both of the girls turned their heads, both instantly struck with shock.

The large entity raised its massive hand in the hair and swiftly thrusted it down.

BOOOOMMMMCRRRRRSSSHH!

A cloud of dust surrounded the area as soon as the giant entity made contact.

MMMmmmmmm.

From across the room, a wounded Yuai appeared. “Like, how can someone like you have that speed? It’s totally creepy that someone as big as you can use bindestrich, yep.”

The creature turned around, towering over the cloud of dust.

“Whoa, you’re like so strange looking, yep.”

Yuai stared at the giant’s disfigured form. She found it difficult to look away from its large, pill-like body and oval head.

“Like, your eyes are so far apart and one is bigger than the other. Wait, and your teeth are showing… totally crazy, yep.”

Yuai shakily got to her feet. “Whoa, I’m like so wobbly right now, yep.” She touched her forehead, then looked down at her fingers. “Is this blood? That’s like so wild that you got me haha, don’t you agree Mia? Mia?”

Yuai looked around. “Mia, where are you? Yep.” That look of worry she had minutes earlier returned. This time, though, it was significantly worse.

“MIA! WHERE ARE YOU, YEP!” Yuai’s movements became frantic, and her voice became shaky.

Cough, cough.

“Over here. Damn, I barely dodged that big bastard.”

Yuai looked over to the left to meet eyes with a bleeding Mia on one knee.

“I’m like so grateful you’re alright, yep.”

A tear fell down Yuai’s cheek, but she quickly wiped it away.

“As if some lame giant would get the better of me.” Mia returned Yuai’s smile and got to her feet. She wiped the thin stream of blood from her forehead and turned towards the hulking creature. “So you’re the enemy then. You’re one weird looking huntsman, that’s for sure. You even have a specialty tailored uniform.” She chuckled, “There ain’t no way a human can grow to your size. You’re practically a house. Tell me, what are you?”

The giant-deformed huntsman remained silent. It only stared blankly at the two of them.

“Not one for chit-chat then, huh?” Mia looked at the giant’s armband.

It’s the same symbol that was on the wall… So is this guy a member of division six? I guess Yuai was right that they were weirdos. Weirdo or not, this guy is creeping me out. He doesn’t even look human… Almost like a test subject.

Tip tap, tip tap.

The sound of dainty footsteps came from a nearby elevated platform.

Mia scowled, “Damn it, what now?”

“Oh my, now what do we have here? Two pretty ladies have walked into our little testing room. How interesting.” The voice was definitely from a man, but yet it also carried a feminine touch.

The mysterious figure came to the edge of a platform positioned right behind the monstrous huntsman.

“Two pretty ladies, indeed.” The man came forward. Standing at least five and a half feet tall, this aggressively fashionable fellow bowed. His chin-length dark blue hair swayed as he did.

Mia tensed up, and a slightly creeped out expression went across her face.

Who is this weirdo? He’s dressed strangely for a huntsman. With his weird orange turtleneck under his uniform and a green sash. Also his hair… It’s… Odd. He kinda looks ridiculous with those two braids coming out from beneath it. If we end up fighting, I’m not sure how long I can last without lasting.

Mia straightened her stance. “Who are you? And what’s with this weird, giant dude? If you answer our questions, I promise not to beat up that pretty face of yours.”

Yuai nodded and began to draw her blutklinge.

“Beat up my pretty face, huh? That’s quite funny coming from two uggos.”

“Uggos?!” Mia balled her fist, instantly enraged and offended for her and Yuai.

“Ah, what to do, what to do.” The man tapped his fingers against each other. “Fine. I’ll answer your questions. It doesn’t matter anyway, since my first answer will negate your threat.”

The man had an immeasurable amount of smugness. “My name is Saraya Toso. I’m the Lieutenant of division six. So with that, both of you uggos have already no chance of defeating me. And onto your second question. That ‘weird giant dude’ is Uno. He’s a modified huntsman, or in layman’s terms, he’s a test subject. Uno is a beast killing war machine.”

“A modified huntsman, huh? I see.” Mia seemed unfazed by the clearly unethical information. “I have one last question for you. Do you want me to ruin your pretty face? Or ruin your scrawny body?”

“Tch, if you can deal with my pets, then you can try.”

“Pets?”

Saraya reached into his pocket and retrieved a remote. He then clicked a button.

A panel opened on the side of the wall, revealing a sort of module filled with buttons and screens. He began typing in a series of inputs into the module.

“Oh, I do hope you farewell, but I wouldn’t place too much faith in two uggos.” He smirked and returned to the module, pressing one last button.

CCCCCHHHHH!

Hatched from all across the room burst open, causing numerous deformed humanoids to appear all around the two girls.

“Yuai! Let’s stick close to each other!”

“I was like totally thinking the same thing, yep.”

Damn, are these all modified huntsmen? If all of them have equal strength for the Uno monster, then we may be in trouble. Not to mention that freak up there is a lieutenant… I swear, if he calls me an uggo again, I’m gonna go completely wild.

“You girls are currently facing the entire group that was picked to become modified huntsmen. You should be honored to go against such a foe. I wish you luck in your futile struggle.” Saraya turned his attention to each of the modified huntsmen. “Kill or capture, either way, they’ll become test subjects. Begin!”
