Chapter 52: There Goes The Deal

Chapter 52: There Goes The Deal

Amidst the uncomfortable silence, a female voice suddenly rang inside Sam's head.

"What the fuck are you doing, Sam? I didn't agree to any of this shit!"

Bewildered, Sam's eyed darted around to see who was talking to him. As his eyes scanned the area, searching, and wondering whether he's hallucinating or not, the voice rang out again.

"Over here, idiot. It's me, Kaya."

Sam turned his head toward Kaya who was still inside the protective dome, she was looking his way with her arms crossed and made it very clearly she's not happy with what Sam had just done.

"Good. To communicate back to me just say the words in your head, think of it like telepathy. Now, tell me. Just what the fuck are you trying to do huh?"

Following Kaya's instructions, Sam mentally replied, "Don't be mad now, i'm trying my best to keep us alive and get out of his domain skill."

"So to do that you're offering to help this fucking monster? Sam, are you out of your damn mind?!" Though Sam received Kaya's words mentally, he could somehow feel the boiling anger from her.

"What?—no, listen. I said that to gain his trust and look for an opening, we can't fight him recklessly. Look, Kaya, I know how much you want to tear that guy apart, but in times like this we need to lessen the risk as much as possible. Come on, this is basic shit. You're smart, surely you understand right?" Sam explained.

After that, Kaya didn't reply. She just standing there and stared at Sam silently, her amber eyes piercing through the protective dome.

Seeing her being like this, Sam can't help but grew uncomfortable.

"Can you speak or something instead of staring at me?" He mentally urged her. "Come on Kaya, trust me on this. If this plan goes well, our chance to escape will go up considerably. We will—"

Before Sam could finish his sentence, El's voice interrupted him. "Don't even bother trying, Human. Your plan is not going to work."

Sam and Kaya's eyes immediately widened in surprised, how the hell did he know they were talking telepathically?

El continued, "Using telepathic communication in front of me... You really are stupid. Perish, fool."

Not wanting to speak any further, the gem's on El's staff began to glow and magic circles started to appear and increase one by one in quick succession behind him.

He then muttered,

"Magic Missiles."

Soon after, all of the magic circles behind him shot out magic missiles toward Sam.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

Sam's danger sense flared up to the highest point as he saw the incoming attack. His brain immediately went into overdrive mode to find a way to dodge or at least hide behind something from the incoming magic missiles. Though Sam might be able to dodge using his instincts, he couldn't fully depend on it as he didn't have the confidence he could dodge them all. He had a feeling that at best he would be heavily injured if he tried that in an open space like this.

With no more time to think as the magic missiles came closer and closer each second, Sam decided to just run toward the protective dome. As he ran he tried to dodge the incoming attack toward him by zigzagging, and luckily it worked. But even though he succeeded, due to the magic missiles speed was really fast, everytime he dodge one it was always just by a hair's breath. Fortunately the distance between Sam and his destination was not far, before the next batch of attacks could reach him Sam took cover using the protective dome at the last second.

Now here comes the unfortunate part. Even though now he had cover against the magic missiles, he knew it won't be long until El stopped attacking his cover and decided to came straight at him. Now, he desperately need a plan.

"Well, seems like my plan just went up in a shithole. Have any plan guys? I don't know how long until he ignored this cover." Sam asked Gabby, Kaya, and Jason inside the protective dome.

"Jason, can you really not let Sam inside?! He will die at this rate!!" Gabby asked Jason, her voice anxious and urgent.

"For fuck sake! I can't! I can't, okay?! I've tried everything I could and none of the works! Let alone letting him inside, even we can't get out of this stupid skill!" Jason replied as he kick the dome, his voice frustrated.

Jason continued, "The only way we can help him now is to cancel the skill, then we can fight alongside hi—"

Suddenly, Sam cut in. "No need to do that, you guys just stay where you are. It's way too risky for you to fight now, I will handle this somehow it's oka—"

"Damn it, Sam! Can you just treasure your life for once?!" Jason said angrily. "Everyone here including you know full well that monster is not something you can handle alone!! Stop trying to—"

"Get a fucking grip Jason." Sam said. "Just because he's dangerous, you're telling me to endanger everyone's safety to fight a battle we aren't sure we can survive let alone win? Look at yourself, the three of you haven't recovered enough just yet. You know i'm right, I'm not fucking blind. If anything, you'll all be a burden and die more quickly if you tried to help me like that. I know my limits, i'm just trying to buy some time for you guys to recover even if it's just for a mere one more second. I'm not facing him to win, but to survive. If I managed to depleted some of his mana there might be a chance this domain will be gone, and if we know what kind of skills he has up his sleeves, it will be a valuable risk I'm willing to take."

"What's the use of all that if you die here?! You can't—"

"I won't die. Well, I hope I won't. Trust me, i cherish my life more than anything."

Kaya then cut in on their conversation. "Hey Sam, what's the probability of you surviving against that monster?"

"Maybe about 40-50% chance, If he doesn't pulled out a bullshit out of his ass like a sure-kill skill that is." Sam replied.

Then Sam continued, "Kaya, can you help me fighting him?"

"What do you mean? You know I can't get out of here right?" Kaya replied, puzzled.

"No, you don't need to step out of there. I just need you to become my second eyes. El is definitely higher level than me, and with my current level i'm not confident my reaction can notified me quicker than his attacks. You will help me by using your eyes to warn me of any incoming attacks since you'll notice it way faster than me because you're obviously higher level than me. Besides, you also have that, uh... Telepathic skill of some sort to use."

"Alright, I will become your eyes." Kaya replied, her voice firm and serious.

"Thank you,"

When he was about to go away, Kaya's voice rang inside his head. "Don't you dare die, Sam."

Sam chuckled weakly and replied, "Well, i'll try my best that's for sure.
