Walking into the administration building we are sent to some sort of classroom, most kids our generation have already taken seat. Flavio and I pick a couple of seats in the back.
“My friend, it looks like we are being excluded already”.
I look around and notice most of our classmates keeping their distance or avoiding seating close to us. The tiny redheaded girl glances at me, her face a mix of disgust and a mocking smile.
“Are the two of us the only legacies this year?”, I ask Flavio not expecting a clear answer but out of frustration by the treatment we are receiving by our fellow students.
“Probably not, but some prefer to remain unknown to avoid this kind of prejudice, and there are those like me who just don’t care”, he shrugs his shoulders, “anyway, there are at most five legacies every year, so this might be one of the times with just two entries”.
Looks like teacher Jordan made it impossible for me to remain hidden, he is the only reason everyone knows I’m a legacy.
Deep in my thoughts it takes me a moment to notice to realize the room went silent when an older woman walked into the room followed by an Espeon, stepping into the podium in front of us.

“My name is Lila Sanders, I am the curriculum coordinator of the academy and a psychic type specialist”, the whole class have a hard time paying attention to her as the gem on Espeon forehead shines and small boxes begin floating around the room, dropping one in front of each student at the same time.
“The box in front of you contains a custom build pokedex, it’s a model unique to our academy and works as your student identification, it is also recognized by the Pokemon League, it is very important for you to keep it with you at all times”.
I glance at the box in front of me, Flavio is already opening his, the academy pokedex looks just like a smartphone, it is somewhat similar to the current Kalos pokedex.
“When turning it on, you will find a menu with different options”, a projector shows images of the pokedex on the projection screen on the wall behind her, “For now, you can only access the class registration menu”.
Opening my own I grab the pokedex, tapping the screen to follow along our instructor, there are several choices and I wait for her to explain.
“As first year students, you have four mandatory courses which you can see here”, she points towards the screen showing the name of the courses: Pokemon Training 101, Pokemon Battling 101, Pokemon Care 101 and Physical Conditioning 101.
I proceed to add them in the pokedex class registration, it isn’t like we could make a mistake, all other options are locked until we have registered our mandatory courses.
“These four are the only courses available to you on the first semester of classes, but next semester you will have both mandatory and elective courses”, she looks around the room while all the students finish their registration.
“For now, you are able to see the class schedule, with the name of the instructor and the location of the classroom, there is also a map of the academy in your pokedex, any questions?”, the tone of her voice make it seem as if she doesn’t really expect anyone to ask something, yet some oblivious blonde girl raises her hand.
“Can we scan pokemon with our pokedex?”, seeing as the scan option is locked, I doubt it.
“All other options on your pokedex are unavailable, they will be unlocked by your teachers as they deem them necessary for their classes”, she steps down the podium with Espeon following her, “that’s it for today, classes begin tomorrow”, and she leaves the room before anyone else has a chance to ask some other question.
What are we supposed to do now?
