What’s wrong with Instructor Knight? Did I offend her in some way? I’m glad about the additional point but she set everyone else against me, as if being a legacy wasn’t enough.
She quickly left the classroom, leaving us all there, we have a small break until Pokemon Battling 101. As people begin leaving the room, Flavio, Melody and me stand up and go on our way as well, at least until certain small girl stood on my way.
“So you are receiving preferential treatment already, huh?”, she says, some as other classmates look at us and listen, waiting for some fight or something.
“I did answer correctly, didn’t I?”
“Clearly, great answer, I’m sure there was no one to prepare you with the answers before class”.
I’m starting to get a little bit pissed off, so I try to keep my cool, no need to get into a conflict on the first day.
“This midget, what do you know? Let’s see you throwing accusations to the teachers, do you have any proof?”, Melody walks forward and stands right in front of Irene, looking down on her as the height disparity is clear for all to see, Irene doesn’t back off, for such a tiny person she sure has guts.

“Yeah, I might be a midget, at least I don’t go around life taking the easy way thanks to my family’s connections”, well I’m surprised, instead of going for an insult she is trying to attack our pride, “or do you think I don’t recognize you? the Champion’s little sister”.
Melody seems about to explode so I signal with my eyes for Flavio to hold her back while I step in, “what is your problem with me? I love my family and I’m proud of their legacy, I’m not ashamed of letting my parents help me to become a better trainer, but let me make something clear, I don’t cheat, I might be here because of their connections but when I prove myself as the best trainer in this class, it’s going to be all about my own effort and talent”, I stare directly into her eyes, “let’s compete on the field and not here with mere words”.
Irene bites her lip in anger as she stares at me defiantly, I step forward and keep walking until I’m outside the classroom, Flavio and Melody following behind me.
“That little c-“, I hear Melody mutter.
“Language”, says Flavio, “it’s doesn’t look good for a beautiful lady such as you to use such foul words”, is this dude flirting with her? Melody looks at him with a somewhat amusing expression on her face, clearly not knowing what to say, then she walks faster leaving us behind.
I look at Flavio next to me, who just shrugs his shoulders. We both follow after her, until we find a place to sit down close to the battling class arena.
“Have you calmed down yet?”, I ask Melody, “don’t let her get to you, I don’t know about her circumstances, but we are here to be pokemon trainers and sooner or later everything will be resolved with our pokemon on the arena”.
“Doesn’t she piss you off?”, she asks back with some frustration on her voice, “All my life I’ve been known as Gregory’s little sister, the champion’s little sister”, she goes silent for a second while her gaze moves down to the floor, “When I got here I thought, finally, I’m going to be just Melody, but no, all people see when they look at me is my brother, I feel like I can’t escape from his shadow”.
Awkwardly I stare at Flavio, not knowing what to say to her, somehow, he signals for me to leave Melody to him, “Let me get you some water”, I say, leaving the two of them alone.
I don’t know what magic words Flavio said to her, but when I’m back she has a genuine smile on her face.
