Chapter 15: About your parents

Chapter 15: About your parents

Flavio and Melody kept me company for a couple of minutes while waiting for teacher Jordan to come back. We talked about our battles, apparently every group had the same species of pokemon given at random.

“Mister Rios, miss Walker, I’m going to have to ask you both to leave, this will take a while so no need to wait for young Santos here”.

With both of my companions gone, the only ones in the waiting area of the building were teacher Jordan and me.

“Follow me”.

He began walking and I just followed along.

“I’m sure you must be wondering what’s this about, you might even be thinking I’m putting you in a bad position with your classmates”, he turns around for a second to look at me, “and you are right about that”.

“There are things about your family you need to know about, and your parents had decided your father should be the one to tell you about it all before you got into the academy, at least that was the original plan your father told me”.

Wait what? But my mom didn’t even want me to come here, how was this planned? Maybe she decided against it after my father went missing.

While I was lost in my thoughts, we arrived in front of a door, teacher Jordan opened and gestured with his hand for me to go in.

“Take a seat”, the room is his office, with everything you would expect for a teacher’s office, besides the pictures, medals and trophies displayed around.

“Xenia, anti-spy room”, as I took a seat he walked to his own while bringing out a pokeball, Xatu appeared int the office her body glowing with a cyan colored aura from using her psychic powers.

“I’m sorry about that, but a lot of what I’m going to tell you is confidential and should not leave this room”.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

“When your mother got pregnant some years ago your parents told me about their plans for you, she quit her activities as a league trainer and went back to her family’s village. They decided it was best for you to have a normal childhood without being influenced by their fame, because by know you sure must have heard something about how well know they are”.

I remember what Flavio and Melody said about my parents, it is something I wanted to ask teacher Jordan, “Yes, some of my companions made the connection and told me”.

“As expected, the Santos name is very well known even years after they disappeared from the public eye”, he paused, seemingly reminiscing about the past, “well, your parents sure were some of the most controversial trainers of our generation, they worked along the league to get rid of criminal and terrorist organizations, and they were very vocal about it, turning themselves into some sort of heroes for the people, but they also made a lot of enemies”.

“When you were born, they decided to keep quiet about your existence, they were worried some of their enemies might target you and later on your sister, that’s the reason your mother stopped her activities and your father disappeared from the public, continuing his activities in a more secretive manner”.

“They also thought you might be influenced by the way people treated them, all the politics involved in being a powerful and well-known trainer can be too much for a young child to be brought into. So, they took you to a remote village and your mother raised you as any other kid in the world”, at that comment I raised my eyebrow, yes, my mother was just a normal housewife to me, but there are a lot of things about her methods that were anything but regular.

Seeing my reaction, he barely contained his laughter, “Well, yes, you are as normal as Maria’s child should be, she is quite the unique lady after all”.

“But getting back into the story, some years later while I was hanging out with your father, he told me about their plans for you, in his mind there was no way their son wouldn’t want to become a pokemon trainer, so they began preparing early for you to receive the best education possible, and that is here, the Pokemon Battle Academy, your father was supposed to become a teacher here once you were old enough, he wanted to be there and watch over every step of your journey, that’s why your father was supposed to be the one who would tell you about the family history”.

“But my mother didn’t even want for me to come here and become a trainer”, I say before he can continue, “I had to fight her for it and accomplish everything she asked of me to come here”.

The smirk on his face, rude, “Don’t ever tell her what I’m about to say, okay?”

“Okay”.

“Your mother is a very devious woman, her going against your wishes to become a trainer is most likely a calculated move on her part, I’m sure she thought you would be more motivated with an obstacle on your way, imagine if Maria had told you to come here and become a trainer, what would your reaction had been like?”

If she had told me about the legacy program before I asked to become a trainer I would most likely have rejected the opportunity, I would have liked to prove myself worthy and earn my place as a trainer on my own, I would have applied for some of the other academies just to show her I don’t need to depend on my parents. But by forbidding me to become a pokemon trainer, forcing me to convince her through challenges she set up for me and saying she would agree only if I came to the academy, I felt I had earned my place by convincing her, “Shit”.

Teacher Jordan laughter filled the room as he saw me come to the realization that I was manipulated into coming here.

“You have the same face as your father when he realized for the first time he was caught in the palm of her hand, I’m sure he will tell you all about it someday, me?, I won’t risk getting on your mother’s bad side”.
