Coming back here has become a relaxation time for me. The two other dimensions, i currently have access to, have me in political positions with duties and responsibilities. Less so in Highest One's Dimension than in Brat's. But both are kind of stuffy. At least if something goes wrong in Highest One's dimension, he can contact me. I don't know if Brat will. But Patty assures me, that as long as trade occurs, he doesn't care, and won't bother anything.
This weekend was my second dimension that was space-fairing. The Argon-beryllium core for the ship's power core is insanely fuel efficient, consuming the beryllium to create electricity.
I used the custom jewelry window to make the individual parts for a core about the size of a hoover vacuum cleaner, well its closer to the size of a Kirby. It took most of Monday, and the parts were all over the living room of Tabitha's house.
Tuesday, I assembled most of the parts, and had it ready for the beryllium, but the argon would need a different seal material. Tabitha came in while I was playing with the jewelry window to make seals, and threw a book on the table in front of me.
"We have copies of all the paperwork we need, you're taking the test Thursday. And remember, your Birthday is February second."
"I got it. I'll read it before I go to bed." I stare at the cover of the study book for the driver's permit test.
"So why in my living room?" She gestures to the case that's almost done.
"Because: I don't need a workshop right now; its clean enough; to make you ask questions." She rolled her eyes, " and the most important reason of all: I didn't want to put shoes on, clean the workshop, then do this while my feet got cold."
She threw her beanie at me while I grinned through my final reason.
"So you told me this was an experiment. What are you trying to achieve?"
"Well, I already know how to make this, I just have to make it in this dimension." I create a polished ball of pure beryllium with the Elements window, and set it in the center. "That's the fuel. And oddly enough, the coolant will start the reaction. I was messing with jewelry creation to make the seals for the argon to stay in."
"Sierra, you are making it too hard on yourself."
"What do you mean?"
"I want to take some liquid argon to the computer store in Springfield. Say, about that much." She points to the generator, and I get what she is saying.
I do what she says, and the clear central casing is now full of argon, and the seals are holding perfectly.
"Quit overthinking things. So when should the reaction start?" She looks at it with excitement.
"Its already going. See the ammeter?" I point at the little analog needle bouncing slightly as AC power is now being generated, but it has nowhere to go. "Its producing energy by consuming the beryllium. But since its not using much of it, the reaction automatically stops with only enough to power whats attached. A self-throttling generator."
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
After another five minutes of trying to explain it, she kissed my forehead to get me to stop.
"I don't understand what you said. But I do understand you're having fun. I'm glad to see you like this." She pats my shoulder, and walks toward her bedroom. Should I find Brian and give him some nightmares? Nah, I have the hearing next Monday to do that.
A knock at the door takes me out of my brooding. Tabitha looks at me in confusion, and I shrug. I don't know who it is either.
Tabitha opens the door.
"It's so nice to see you." I hear the fake cheery voice, of Carol. "I'm here to conduct your surprise inspection." She says, almost singing.
I tap my watch until I see a puff of green come out of it. 'Dad' comes in the back door, without knocking.
"Hey, sweetheart. I just signed for this letter for you." He says, a bit louder than anyone would normally talk. "I don't understand all this." He points to the generator.
"Its alright, Dad. Tabby doesn't either." I pat his shoulder as I open the letter. I get a wink from him, and a whisper in my ear to act my appearance once I read the letter, not my age.
I get through the first few lines, and the adrenaline hits. I start screaming, and jumping. I hug Patty, run and give Tabby a hug while screaming, and hopping, then run back to the Living room and jump on 'Dad' his arms catch me, and that's it. The adrenaline gone. I just cry. I still haven't said what the letter was about, just cried.
"Whats the letter say?" Tabby asks. I just hold it out.
She reads it, and begins crying too.
It was Twenty minutes before I actually calmed down, and let go of dad.
"Alright, sweetie. Whats got you so excited?" Dad asked.
"The proof i submitted, and the experiment I prescribed has passed the first stage of peer review. They were able to recreate my results, and although, not definitive proof, its a massive step forward. We are one step closer to proving quantum entangled travel is possible."
"Alright, so its one step. Explain it to where stupid ole' me can get it."
"Alright! Game on!" I yell out. Doing this more to put on a show.
"What are they doing?" Carol asks Tabitha, while I think for a bit.
"Its how we have taught her. We really don't understand some of the things she comes up with. So we made learning into a game. She teaches us, then we teach her. This week, we're teaching her road rules to get her permit to drive."
"And that thing on the table?" Carol asks.
"Her latest experiment. She says its a generator, and its working; i haven't seen it do anything yet." She grins when I give her a dirty look.
"Got it. In Norse Mythology, Heimdol guards the Bifrost. A device that can move the Asgardians to any of the other realms they rule." 'Dad' nods. "Okay, keep that in mind. In modern physics, we have something called Higgs Bosen. And many theorize the understanding of this could give us quantum travel; a real, functioning Norse Bifrost."
"And that paper You submitted to this journal thing, they tried an experiment you came up with, and got the same result you did?"
"Yes. Its a huge step in proving a large chunk of my theories."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Carol, this is how we usually see her. If you piss her off again, I will get a court order for a different caseworker for us," I say as the two are having their talk.
"I didn't understand anything of what she said." Carol says.
"Dad understood enough to know why she is happy. And that generator thing on my coffee table, she started that yesterday. Trying to build the experiments to prove her theories. If Dad dies tonight in his sleep, where is she going to go? Who would protect her? Who would protect her ideas? A fifteen year old who is working on some of the hardest physics questions our world currently has to offer. Worse, what would happen if a company got a hold of her, and took her intellectual property as their own. How would she sustain herself if she never sees revenue from the ideas coming from her head." I turn to look at Carol "so, lets do your checks while she is still ignoring your presence."
