16. Visit of Horus

16. Visit of Horus

Carol decided not to ask questions this time. I am glad I stocked the vanity with makeup, as she looked through every drawer in my room.

She did make a few off color comments about my undergarments, she stopped when she realized I was just glaring at her for them. I may have already lived as a woman for 50 years, but I didn't appreciate her tone, or what she was implying about a 15 year old girl; well fifteen on paper.

Before she left, Tabby came over, and I was asked to spend two weeks at Tabby's house, to see how it worked out. She then acted surprised when Tabby asked what the point was, pointed out the back door and said that was her house.

We did decide to do it though, figuring it couldn't hurt to talk about it when we finally had to see a judge. I do want a different caseworker. Carol gives me the creeps. I can't imagine what a real teen girl would feel when dealing with her.

I went back to the dorm room, and came out to both Alicia and Beverly in the room.

"Everything Alright?" Alicia asks.

"Yeah, just some legal stuff back home because of this appearance." Both of them seemed to understand immediately, but neither asked how I was able to be contacted.

Katie jumped up from the couch, and grabbed me in a hug. I started patting her back.

"You gonna be okay?" I asked. "When I got told, I figured it should be up to you."

"I'm not an Atheist, but I never studied anything with the church. I thought only devout people could become Oracles." She says, still holding me in a death grip.

"The only requirement of an Oracle," Beverly starts; "is for the Highest One to talk to you directly. That's it. Yeah, you move up the church's echelon to one of the highest positions, immediately, but when the words of Highest One is the law of the church, and you are hearing them directly, there isn't much room to argue."

"I'm guessing that's why nobody at the Norfolk Temple argued with me when I told the Archivists I was putting them under the authority of the temple guard."

"A High Oracle's words in the main temple are Law, even a minor infraction of etiquette to an Oracle is usually ignored, but the same infraction is met with harsh penalties if done to a High Oracle. And has been known to result in death if done to an Avatar."

Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.

"What exactly would make one an Avatar?" I ask.

"Healing or killing another by your presence alone." Alicia says. "They are so rare that only three people in the world are allowed to know how to verify an Avatar, so they can't be faked."

"The only reason you didn't go through an Oracle verification was because of you admitted to conversing with the Highest One during an Interview of stone." Beverly finished.

Katie pushes me back, and stands in front of me, she crosses her arms and shakes her head to move a few stray hairs away from her face.

"I want to do it." She proclaims.

"Are You sure? You can't change your mind after he talks to you." I remind her. Her nod was all I needed. I tapped my watch twice.

"Yes?" I hear Highest One's voice, and I can tell Katie recognized it.

"Katie said she would become an Oracle for you." I say. At confirming his voice, Alicia and Beverly seemed shocked.

I watched as Katie's eyes shifted from Brown to purple; the golden eye of Ra makeup making the transformation all the more beautiful. When his voice next comes out of my watch, I am less surprised.

"Initiates, you have witnessed this. However I have asked her to not make this public until after she completes her studies. Do not make a report on this until High Oracle Korvall or Oracle Voss give permission. I do not give either of you permission to speak of this." When his voice stops, I realize he isn't there anymore.

"So a hidden one until after graduation. Good luck Katie." I smile.

I don't know what this would do for her, but at least, right now, I'm happy for her.

I spent the rest of the day goofing off with the three girls, and decided to leave at nine to go back to Norfolk.

Upon appearing in my quarters, I noticed the circle beneath me having been changed. Now a silver and gold compass rose with eight points was in the tile.

When asked about it, the Oracle Knights said it was easier to clean, within my budget for the month, and stood as a reminder of where I would appear when I came here. Then confirmed it was indeed silver, with gold trim, and a thin aluminum ring around the edge.

I then showed them each how I did the eye makeup, so they could apply it if I had a makeup issue in public, or they wanted to wear the designs themselves. Upon describing what each meant, and what it meant to wear them both, the youngest one wrote everything down, and said she was taking it to the temple head.

I went to the late dinner again today, still wearing outdoor clothes, and sporting the eye of Horus. I was slightly disappointed at seeing hominy, mashed potatoes, meatloaf, and brown gravy as the meal, but changed my mind as I bit into it.

"This cook is great." I said aloud, not meaning to. Apparently it was the same person who made my Ruben, but they had said they were scared to meet me.

I took a long soak in the bath. A lot happened today, and the warm water felt good.

As I got out of the tub, I felt a tightness in my stomach, and alerted the Knights present I would need different clothes to sleep in, as well as some hygiene supplies.

The bed was welcoming as I laid down, and a second duvet was added before my light was turned off.

I was woken up in the middle of the night to fix my hygiene issue, and back to bed. Waking up no worse for wear for a Sunday in Virginia.
