11. Temple Tables

11. Temple Tables

Being as I now had a doppelganger, I slept in my new room. I had basically taught myself fifty years worth of quantum, nuclear, and particle physics, as known by a space fairing culture, over the past two days. I used the outfit window to change into a satin pajama, and fell asleep within minutes.

Living as an adult woman for fifty years has made me a lot more comfortable like this, but I still only want sleep.

"I know you're lying to dad." I say to the being on the couch.

"There are a lot of things I have to lie about." She shifts to the appearance she had when the green smoke disappeared. "Honestly, he should have discovered how to jump dimensions on his own, about eight years ago. He gave up his research when he met you, and your mom." She lifted the hard copy of the Boson Proof off of the table. "In all honesty, this is entirely Jesse's research. At least it was supposed to be." She let it plop back onto the table.

"So really, how much danger is he in?" I ask.

"I can't tell you. But she will change a lot of things here. The real reason I got in trouble was because I kept giving her money when she fixed problems my dimension had been having." She narrowed her eyes at me. "She spent this whole last weekend learning. And not simple subjects either. And all of that information is usable here. My rules are the same, other than the flow of time."

I take a few minutes to think about what she is saying, then ask another question.

"So, are you guys trying to improve every place she goes?"

"No, honestly we don't care what she does, or where she goes. Her mere presence is enough to inspire change and growth. That aside, this week is going to be busy for me. I am going to go to his work, so money can still come into the house. And his habit of a morning smoke will stop, but I'll still rest on the balcony."

"Anything you need me to do?"

"Be yourself, encourage her to write down her knowledge, and please put her as one of the authors."

I agree, then head home for the night. Brian still isn't back.

I spent the week writing down the theories I learned from Patty's dimension. I didn't have sources for the majority of what I was doing, but the first academic paper was ready for submission Thursday evening, I would be able to use it as the source for the next one, and make the series of papers stronger once they pass peer review.

Wednesday evening, Carol came by again, this time she was allowed to do her checks. When she started asking me about possible night-time activities, I told her we were done. I would not discuss that with her. When she defended herself by saying she was checking for signs of abuse, I just stood there with the front door open, motioning for her to leave, without saying anything further.

As sunset came around, I changed my outfit to the MSU tracksuit, added two sapphire studs to each ear, and moved myself to the temple, being as it was through the outfit window, it fit more comfortably. I added a maroon tank top over the sports bra.

Everything I was wearing, including the things not seen by the public, were MSU maroon and grey, with the bears logo on all of it, except, my shoes, and panties, which were designed to not show lines.

"Welcome back, Oracle." The youngest aide here said. The other two, in the room greeted me, and then went back to their business.

"You went to Patty." I heard Highest One's voice. I simply nodded. "The row of grey cubes next to the door. Place the corner of one of them on one of your temples, while thinking about what you learned there."

I followed his instructions, and all three aides approached.

The cube was a bright white color when I looked at it again. The oldest aide held her hands in a cup in front of her, and I was told to hand the cube to her.

"Where would you like this stored?" I was asked; not thinking too much about it, I replied nonchalantly

"Share it with anyone who wants it." I pause "it's all of my current knowledge, and thoughts on nuclear, particle, and quantum physics. Paula at MSU should be able to find some uses for it."

"May we have a glimpse?" The youngest asks.

"I assumed the four of you would screen it, at least. I don't know if it interests you."

The oldest one touches her temple with the cube for a few seconds, then passes it along

"Anything given freely by an Oracle, to the public, is treated as a scripture. The structure of this information makes it clear where you think your understanding may be in error. That said, we will ensure Doctor Paula Stevens receives this, a copy will be made for the public archive."

"Thanks."

The second girl in the room decides to speak up.

"Oracle, this feels like a lifetimes worth of research here. How long did it take you to get this?"

"Fifty years." I tell her honestly. "It took about two of your days, but time passed very quickly where I was. I am not permitted back there for a year."

"Would you like to show yourself at the late dinner?" The youngest one asked as she handed the cube to the one I gave it to, and the oldest one left the room with it.

"Is it formal?"

"No, late dinner is informal, and proper decorum is not enforced."

"Then, sure. I'll go. Make sure you guys eat too." I decided to leave through the door I knew to be the exit, and was promptly escorted to the dining room.

"The earrings are a nice touch, Oracle." The guard leader said to me.

"Thanks. Sapphire has always been my favorite color, even though my birthday is in February."

He seems to smile, but it quickly disappears as we enter the dining hall.
