CHATPER 40: REUNION(PART 1)

Being laid down in the room said by the receptionist, Mrit continued his acting of being unconscious while sneakily stealing glancing around the room wherever he got the chance.

The room was not something special. It was a small room with just a bed on which he is laying down and a rack along with a double door cupboard. On the wall on his right side, there was a window from which outside town can be seen clearly. The rays of sun shone on his face while slow breeze chilled his face.

“So, what’s with this guy?”

While Mrit was enjoying the warmth of the sun, the receptionist from earlier came inside the room, accompanied by two people who were near the reception earlier following her. Coming near the bed and examining Mrit, she then turned her head towards the guards and asked them about the situation and Mrit.

“We don’t know. This guy suddenly appeared out of the bushes outside and asked for help. We investigated this guy and found no weapons or anything so we brought him at the church for the priest to heal him.”

“But at the church, the priest was in the middle of prayer and told us to just put him outside the church and wait for him to finish the prayer.”

“We were ready to do so and were going to, but then, the guild master suddenly appeared in front of us and told us to bring him here and tell you to give him a potion.”

The two guards explained the situation to the receptionist after which, the two guards exited the room in a hurry without looking back, leaving Mrit in the hands of the receptionist.

“Milan, bring the potion from the cupboard.”

The man standing on the right side of the receptionist walked towards the cupboards and took out a potion from it and brought it to the receptionist. After getting hold of the potion, she then ordered the other guy to lift Mrit a little so that she can make him drink the potion.

“Max, hold him for me while I make him drink the potion.”

“Okay.”

The man on the left side then grabbed Mrit carefully and lifted him a little after which she pinched Mrit’s cheeks to make him open his mouth and made him drink the potion while also positioning his throat in a way that the potion can go easily.

“Slowly lay him down. Let him rest and wait for the guild master to come. He will then decide what to do with him.”

After saying that, she, along with the two men exited the room, leaving Mrit behind alone.

Opening his eyes, he looked around to check whether the girl and the men have left or not, but didn’t woke up and stayed like he was before.

“Plan successful, I guess.”

Whispering, Mrit spoke to thin air after which another grunt reply came from his shadows.

“Don’t rejoice. The guild master isn’t some small fry. Let your guard down and he will catch you.”

Gan, from the shadow spoke, seemingly frustrated. He couldn’t digest the fact that Mrit has successfully entered the town without any problem and on top of it, he got the help of the guild master of this town without much hassle.

While Gan was being noisy, Mrit remembered the way priest acted.

“Did the way priest acted is normal here in this world?”

Mrit asked the three of them as he felt disgusted by the act of the priest.

“We haven’t meet a priest before and captain is-”

“I do not associate myself with the church. But I heard something similar from the new recruits in boulder.”

“So this is pretty normal.”

While he said plainly, his was trembling with rage. Remembering the apathetic look he saw on the priest’s face made him angrier.

“So this is the so called religion of that bitch?! Even a dying person’s life is nothing before her prayer? Pathetic.”

While he was chatting with the three of them, from outside, someone opened the door. Alerted, Mrit quickly closed his eyes and returned to again acting like a fainted person.

“So, have you given him the potion?”

The man from the church, the guild master, who helped Mrit, came inside the room along with the receptionist. After that, the guild master came near Mrit and examined him again while he spoke with the receptionist.

“Prepare some meal for him. From the looks of his, he is the victim of the explosion that happened days ago.”

Seeing the burns and the wounds, he concluded that this man who is lying in the bed is a survivor of the big explosion that happened in the forest.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

“I will be here. When he wakes up I will call you, so be ready with the necessities.”

“Yes sir.”

The receptionist nodded to the orders of the guild master and then exited the door. The guild master, now alone with Mrit, turned towards him and looked down at him.

“So, any plans of waking up or not, mister actor?”

Suddenly, the air around the guild master changed as he glared at Mrit. He directed a small killing intent towards Mrit, wanting to know how he will react to it but opposite to his expectations, Mrit remained unfazed and continued to act unconscious. He was surprised to see that Mrit hasn’t stopped his acting, so he tried something else to make Mrit believe in him.

“Hoo!!, not waking up even with that much killing intent? Maybe this can make you trust me more then.”

“Silence!”

He then turned around and closed his eyes and raised his hand in the air. Suddenly, magic discharged from the guild master’s hands and spread all around the room, remaining there, forming some sort of barrier all around the room.

“Now you will tal-”

He was about to finish the sentence but when he turned around, he is welcomed with a dagger right at his throat and the man who was lying in the bed is now looking at him with a sharp, suspicious gaze.

With a cold voice, Mrit looked at the guild master, while also bringing the dagger near his throat.

“Why did you help me?”

“Hahaha!!”

“What’s so funny?”

“Your question. Why would I need a reason to help someone?”

“I am in no mood of jokes.”

“Same here”

“….”

Though a dagger was just an inch away from slicing his throat, the guild master remains unfazed. With a cheerful smile on his face, he looked at Mrit with an unfazed confidence on his face.

“Tch!”

Seeing that that opponent isn’t afraid of him at all, Mrit withdrew the dagger and created distance between them while keeping his guard up.

“So, tell me. Why did you help me?”

“Didn’t I tell you? I don’t need a reason to help someone.”

Mrit, distrustful of the guild master, tried to know the reason for guild master to help him, but the man didn’t changed his answer at all which irked Mrit.

“You think I will buy that?”

With an annoyed look, Mrit sat on the bed and starred daggers at the guild master.

“In this world where power is everything, you here are saying you need no reason to help me? Didn’t you saw the priest in the church?”

Remembering that moment, Mrit grinded his teeths in anger.

“You think I can trust the people who believe in that goddess? That priest didn’t bat an eye for me, an injured and wounded, then how can I trust someone who follows in his footsteps?”

Seeing the flaming rage in Mrit’s eye’s, the guild master didn’t spoke. He also cannot refute Mrit as he has himself saw what happened in the church.

“I know. It is difficult to trust when you have been treated like that. But it is also true that all are not same.”

“And what makes you think you are any different?” Mrit asked, pushing his dagger near at his throat.

“Because I too had been in the place you once were. I too was denied judgement when I pleaded to someone. I tried bringing justice for someone, but the one judging…he never even looked back and said anything. And now seeing you in that same state, I felt the urge to help you.”

“…”

Silence befall the room. The guild master just stood there and watched Mrit, not knowing what is happening inside his mind.

After a while, Mrit put the dagger inside the storage ring, seemingly ready to talk.

“As you have guessed, I am one of the survivors of the explosion that happened in the forest.”

“As I guessed, but why act your way like that?”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, you could have just said to guards you want help.”

While the guild master said that, he looked at Mrit and was taken aback by his expression and asked Mrit.

“Why are you looking at me like that?” Mrit was looking at him with his eyebrows raised and a rather disappointed look on his face.

“Are you a fool?”

“S-Sorry?” For a moment, the guild master couldn’t process what Mrit said and stuttered.

“I know that you are strong, and you have strong people here, but what would you do when some monsters were to attack you?”

“Don’t worry, if such a thing were to happen, the knights from the holy kingdom and the empire will come through teleportation.”

"The knights, huh..."

'I guess this town also has a teleportation system. That's why he is co confident.'

Nothing left within his arsenal to throw as an argument to the guild master, Mrit stayed silent. He knew very well the powers of the so called knights and their power.

After that, knowing that there is no point in arguing, Mrit gave up and relaxed for a bit and started to speak up.

"Few months before the explosion, in our village, which was living peacefully, was invaded by the guild Boulders."

"Boulders you say...., please continue."

Hearing the name Boulders, the guild master raised his brows a little before telling Mrit to continue his story.

"They came out of nowhere, demanded to us that we leave our village. But when the whole village refused, they-"

Mrit paused for a moment and looked down on the ground.

From the guild master's point of view, it looked like Mrit is holding back his tears as he saw Mrit trembling, but he didn't knew that the pity he is feeling now for Mrit is wasted as Mrit, is actually looking down at his shadow, more specifically at Gan inside his shadow with a ferocious smile on his face.

[Damn you Mrit!! You fucker, we didn't do anything like that!!]

'You didn't but for the plot, you have.'

[FUCKING LIAR!]

No matter how much Gan shouted, his voice couldn't reach the guild master's ear.

After having fun seeing Gan angry, Mrit lifted his head and faked crying in front of the guild master.

"They abducted the woman and the children of our village and threatened us."

Though he didn't say anything, the guild master looked agitated and concerned.

"I was one of the men who tried to rebel against them, but I was nothing against them, so they beat me up and prisoned me."

Seeing him cooking up random bullshit on the spot baffled Gan as he was left speechless by how low Mrit is pulling the boulder's reputation.

The guild master too looked angry after hearing everything, showing that even he got trapped in this fake story of Mrit.
