Chapter 11: EXIT (Part 1)

“Eh?”

[You have successfully tamed a legendary beast.]

Just when he touched Totopa’s paw, a window suddenly appeared in front of his eyes, revealing the true nature of Totopa.

“A legendary creature?!!”

Looking at the tiny blob of fluff looking at him, Mrit became even more shocked than when he saw Totopa blasting the upper body off the guy.

“How the hell can a tiny blob like you hold that much power, huh? You little rascal!!”

“Toppaaa.”

Holding Totopa, Mrit ruffled his hair and cuddled him. Giggling, Totopa then climbed to the top of Mrit’s head while snuggling himself between Mrit’s hair.

‘That also proves of him being alone here. He really is like me.’

Labeled as monsters, their kin and society have shunned both of them, leaving them on their own.

But now, these two finally found each other and became the support for one another.

“System, can I see the status of Totopa?”

[Yes owner. If the beast desires, you can.]

“Totopa, you heard it. Can I have a look at your status?”

“Topa? Topa, Topa.”

Nodding his head, Totopa then rested his chin upon Mrit’s head, seemingly not minding Mrit seeing his status. Getting his approval, Mrit then called out to the system.

“System, show me his status.”

Then another window different from his appeared before him.

[Name: Totopa

Level: 899

Rank: Legendary

Type: Sacred Beast

Owner: Mrit

Favorability: Mrit – 100%]

[*Because of the huge difference in level, you cannot view the stats of the beast.]

Although he could see his basic information, because of the difference in their level he wasn’t able to get proper values of Totopa’s stats.

“Well, I don’t think I have any need to look at his stat. Him being with me is all I want.”

With that, he then closed the system and looked at the sky slowly getting darker. And so, after a hectic day of fighting and looting to laying down their truths in front of each other, they both returned to their camp.

Upon arriving, the luggage and everything there was lying untouched, signifying the fear others animals have of Totopa.

“Him being a legendary being is no joke!! I am too lucky, I guess?”

I can never underestimate the influence this little fluff ball is having in this forest.

‘Thank god, I never attacked him. Otherwise, I would be obliterated and would have become death by now.’

After having a light dinner and lying down, Mrit placed Totopa upon his chest as he gazed at the twinkling stars.

“Goodnight Totopa.”

“Topa *yawn*…”

And so, both of them closed their eyes as the night slowly embraced them.

***

The next morning, Mrit got up early and packed up the luggage lying around.

“I should probably erase the signs of me being here. Knowing that the goons I killed yesterday were people of that Goddess, she will probably know about their demise sooner or later.”

No matter how powerful he was in the past, he is now nothing but a twig in front of the Goddess and the heroes. So unnecessary aggression will only foil his plans and will lead to him again gaining the powers of death.

“I can’t reveal myself as of right now too. Not with this petty power in hand. I have to raise these powers within me and become more powerful than this current me.”

The power he has now and what he had in the past is incomparable. The power to have command over death is surely appeasing, but Mrit who has known the reality of using that power understands more than anyone that death is nothing but a curse.

“I don’t want that curse to fall upon me again, ever.”

So, he then ate some light meal along with Totopa and thoroughly cleaned up and proceeds to erase his every trace from there.

The place where they camped returned to how it was before they arrived there.

“Are you ready Totopa? We will leave this forest now.”

Even though he confronted Totopa yesterday, he still wants to be sure of Totopa’s feelings.

“Topa Topa!!”

Totopa on the other hand cheerfully nodded, opposite to Mrit’s worries. Confirming his partner’s wish, Mrit with Totopa on his shoulder finally decided to leave the place.

For one last time, he looked at the place and remembered the days they spent here.

“If… If after all of this, I still could not go back to earth, I would like to live here in this beautiful place forever.”

And so, Mrit left, walking toward his next destination.

***

During their journey, because of Totopa, the party of two didn’t encounter any hurdles in the way. Mrit easily swept through the forest with no difficulty, displaying the raise of stats after their fight.

Slowly, he narrowed the distance between him and his stop before stopping as the sun finally set.

“Let’s set up the camp for now.”

After setting up the camp, Mrit and Totopa sat near the bonfire, eating their meal.

“Totopa, because of you we have come this far with no difficulty within a day.”

Totopa on Mrit’s lap snuggled with Mrit’s hand and eat his meal.

“With this pace, I expect us to reach the gate by tomorrow night.”

Although the distance was quite large, with no obstacles ahead, Mrit easily crossed most of the forest.

“Leveling up too raised my stats. Is this what it feels like to level up?”

In the past, because he awakened when he died, he never leveled up. The power he got after death was something that nobody could ever surpass, so he never leveled up.

But now in a mortal body, he first-hand experienced what it feels like to level up.

“I could never imagine something like this. No matter what I tried when I was alive, I couldn’t level up and after death, because of that ridiculous power, I couldn’t, more like never needed to level up.”

“But now, I can level up. I can feel this surging power every time till I reach the limit.”

The feeling of breaking a vast wall every time you level up filled Mrit with excitement. The joy he couldn’t experience for once in his past life is now available to him and he plans to slowly enjoy it.

[Owner, I agree with you. One who doesn’t experience difficulties and hardship cannot overcome his limits. Now as you are given this privilege, I hope that the owner successfully attains new power and levels up accordingly without relying on some power.]

The system of the sun came like always, boasting the moral values of hardship in the guise of praising the sun’s power to Mrit.

“Well, you are correct on that matter, but not that getting the power of death was anything simple either. I literally died. So I think I had gone through certain hardships to attain that power.”

Dying can be classified as hardship and painful too and Mrit has experienced it once, but now he doesn’t want to, not because it scared him but because he now is alive.

“Well, we have some time, so let’s check on the spoils we got, but first-”

From the storage ring, Mrit took out the egg he got from the underground vault carefully.

“System, can you tell me about this egg?”

Not knowing anything except the fact that this egg belongs to a bird, Mrit tried to ask the system.

[Unfortunately no. As the system belongs to the owner only and has activated recently, the data about the creatures and species of this world is yet to be recorded.]

[As the owner slowly discovers information about the creature and species, we would record the information for the owner’s use. As with the sacred beast, the creature you tame in the future lets you look at their status window voluntarily, the system will show you the data immediately.]

“Is that so….”

Looking at the egg, he found that the Sun’s embrace was still there. The effect of Sun’s Embrace faded a little as the intensity of the aura around the egg decreased too.

“The effect of Sun’s embrace remained even though a lot of time has passed? My stamina hasn’t depleted too. Hey system, explain what’s going on.”

[It is as you say. Because of being inside the storage ring that is a product of space manipulation, the Sun’s Embrace somehow remained for a long time. I can say that you have found a loophole within the storage ring.]

“Does that mean I am the one who discovered this first?”

[Possibly not. Because of a large amount of awakened summoned to this world, it might be possible that those awakened might have found the loophole already.]

“You are correct. Just as I have discovered this, there would be many who might have discovered the same. Even so, this might come in handy in the future. Now, let’s recharge the Sun’s Embrace.”

Mrit hoped he could be the only one to know about this, but knowing that his world also underwent various changes and experimented with everything, he couldn’t possibly rule out the curiosity of humans who might have tried this and caught on this loophole.

Forgetting about that, he then rejuvenated the aura around the egg before putting it back into the ring. Next, he checked the other ring.

“There are too many gold coins. I don’t know the real value of these until I reach a city or something.”

It took four rings to completely store the coins and other things and minding the fact that the goons he killed were not some rando thieves, we can say that the gold coins hold significant value in this world.

Taking out one of the gold coins, Mrit then inspected the inscriptions on it.

“This mark…. It resembles the stigma of the sun in my hand. And behind it, it was a picture of that Goddess. She might influence this entire world if they used these coins around the world.”

Having a picture of oneself on a note or coin on earth signified the importance of that person, even if he is dead. Then what about here? After checking more coins, Mrit didn’t find any coin different.

“She really is a Goddess for this world and looking at these coins, she can also be someone who might directly or indirectly be controlling the politics of this world too. Damn, it will be difficult to make her come out like this.”

The Goddess being at the top of this world means that for her, there would be countless who would give up their life. That way, it would become troublesome for Mrit to kill her.

“Well, that can be handled later. I have time, too much time…”

Then, he looked at the weapons he found in the vault but found nothing interesting except-

“Now this is something I missed.”

[Mini Throwing Daggers (Common)

Mini Daggers with average build quality and sharpness. Can be called back using magic.

Destructible.]

“How I missed these after dying.”

Before dying on earth, he was a scout, the lowest among the society of that time. But because of his skills in raid and scouting, he was called by various teams. At that time, he used the throwing dagger as his main weapon.

“It was fun throwing these with poison on them. They can come in handy in the future with the power of death. The poison skills will mix perfectly with these.”

After glancing over at other weapons, Mrit put the rings back and lay down before sleeping quietly and so another day passed after Mrit came into this world.

The next morning, Mrit resumed his journey early. Slowly they decreased their distance before finally reaching the destination somewhat in the evening.

“Hahh… We are a tad bit early here. What would have happened if there was no Totopa? My whole day would be wasted fighting the animals or beasts here. But before that, would have even lived, hahaha!!”

Thinking back, if he never would have met Totopa and gotten the power of death, he might be dead by now, fighting the beasts in the forest.

“Even though fighting monsters would be beneficial for leveling up the stats, what do I have to fear if a legendary beast were to be with me?”

After reaching the point, Mrit hid behind a bush. Some meters away from where he was hiding, there was a wooden gate standing tall, closed.

“This must be the place from which they teleport to other places. Totopa, I have work for you.”

“Topa?”

“You see, go inside that place and find how many people are there? Come back after investigating thoroughly.”

“Topa!!”

With a salute, Totopa jumped over a tree whose branches were inside the settlement. After a while, Totopa came back digging through the ground after successfully infiltrating the enemy base.

“Woah… That scared me!!”

Mrit got a little scared as Totopa suddenly appeared out of the ground in front of him.

“So, how was it? How many are there?”

And so Totopa slowly told what he saw there.

“Hmm… So there are 10 people with 8 roaming outside and 2 inside the building?”

“Topa Topa.”

“Well, I guess it is time to use these little daggers.”

With Totopa on his shoulders, Mrit blended into the darkness as his eyes flashed in the shadow, full of death.

***

“Leader, we have got no message from them. What should we do?”

In a small room, a middle-aged man asked the person sitting facing him, polishing his sword. With an indifferent look, the person then replied to the man.

“Hmm… Knowing that guy, it can sometimes happen. But for him to skip two days sending no message, there might be something wrong going there with them.”

Putting his blade down, he looked at the person in front of him.

“Try to send a message again. If he doesn’t respond, then send a message to the capital. With that monster roaming in that forest, I don’t want to waste resources looking for them. The Knights legion or the adventurers would face that calamity. Our guild doesn’t have much power left after that monster ravaged our members.”

After giving his order, he was about to get up when someone slammed the door open.

“L-Leader, we h-have an intruder!!”

“What!!”

Before he could say any more, a dagger came straight out of nowhere, piercing his throat.

“Khwakh…*Thud*”

With that, his lifeless body fell as a sudden silence fell upon the place. The leader then broke the silence with his roar.

“Stop attacking like this and come out, you coward. Who are you and who sent you here? ”

Upon his ferocious call, the shadow of the leader wriggled as it took the form of a man behind him.

“Now Now, I haven’t used this technique for a long time. Let me bask in the excitement of being with darkness for some time.”

“!!”

Mrit from the shadow appeared, and in an instant placed the dagger near the man’s throat.

“W-Who are you? Are you from the dark brotherhood?”

Sensing Mrit suddenly appearing behind him, the leader realized he was now facing something dangerous, so he tried to talk out of this.

“Now, don’t act like smart, and you-”

Whoosh!

The dagger, like a bullet, passed by the middle-aged man who was trying to leave the room and struck the ground, making the person stand at attention instantly.

“Do not try to escape now.”

“A-Ahha-ahh!!”

With that, both the men kept quiet, as Mrit was the only one who spoke.

“Now, some silence. I guess we have mutual understanding here between us. So now, should we have some serious talk, shall we?”
