Chapter 16: TRAP (Part 1)

“Any ten from you all, follow me. Rest of you, surround the entire building.”

Looking at the shed, the captain thought of a strategy to subdue the invader as soon as possible.

It was a small shed with no other exit except the entrance door, so he thought of the optimal way to form his team.

Following his orders, the guild members and guards split up. Ten members stood behind their captain and the rest according to his order surrounded the building.

After that, the captain and then ten guild members, with careful steps slowly reached the gate.

“5 of you on right and 4 of you on the left. One of you stays behind me.”

Giving his directions to the members, he then unsheathes his sword. The captain then stood in front of the gate and took a deep breath.

“You all 10 will follow me at the count of three. Be vigilant and look for each other. We don’t know if there are more people or just one, so never drop your guard.”

“Rest of you all, be prepared in case the intruder tries to escape. Am I clear?”

Following the ten members, he then spoke to the ones who surrounded the shed.

“Yes!”

Confirming that the guild members are all ready, he then kicked open the door and rushed inside the shed quickly.

Following him, the ten guild members also entered hurriedly while holding their weapons.

“Drop your weapons and surr... Wait what?”

As he rushed in, he tried to warn the intruder in order to catch him off guard but looking around, he didn’t find anyone.

“Where’s the intruder?”

The captain looked around but only found some wooden crates and the teleportation stone lying on the ground.

“Everyone, investigate this room.”

“Yes!!”

According to his order, the members slowly checked through everything but somehow left the crate in which Totopa was hiding. Must be plot armor?

While the others were busy investigating the room, the captain found something.

“...Wait.”

Getting near the teleportation stone, he found that there were some stains on it and the near the ground.

Getting near and examining them, the stains turned out to be blood.

“Did the intruder escape through the portal?”

As he only saw one guard come running from this shed, he thought that the intruder might have dragged the other guard through the portal, but something didn’t fit well here.

“That guard... he was seriously injured. And looking at the wound, the wound was quite deep and the blood loss too was significant.”

The blood was too significant when he saw the guard. And he was bleeding at that time too.

“But then, why is there no significant trace of blood loss here?”

Everywhere around, there were no such big traces of blood around. There were only a minuscule amount of stains of blood, signifying the scale of the fight that ensued here.

“Rather than a fight, this feels more like an assassination.”

Other than the stain, there was not a trace of a bight fight happening here. No sword marks, or damages on the ground, and the teleportation were there.

“Then how did he suffer such a big stab wound?”

Just when he thought about what to do next, a sound from outside came and distracted him.

“Do it, Totopa!!”

“?!”

Just then, from a wooden crate in the corner, a small animal jumped and appeared by breaking the crate. It was a small animal similar to a rabbit but something felt different.

Totopa who revealed himself then opened his mouth wide and pointed it at the ground as a small ball of energy formed in it.

“RUN!!!”

The captain who realized what is about to happen shouted and tried to run but-

Boom!

It was too late. Totopa launched his attack, making everyone fly away from the blast.

The ten members along with their captain blasted away and hit the walls of the room very hard.

“Gahh!!”

All of them struck the wall very hard and then fell to the ground.

The entire room was now engulfed in embers with Totopa in the middle of it, looking down at all of them.

Out of all of them, only the captain and some members tried to stand and were able to stand on their legs, barely.

“W-What was... t-that? *cough*”

Because of the blast, the captain suffered major internal injuries as coughed up some blood.

But before he could even have time to look forward, someone suddenly broke through the gate that they closed and barged into the room.

“Go outside Totopa. That skelly needs your support.”

“Topaa!!”

The man who barged into the room suddenly ordered the little creature that caused this massive blast. Outside, a skeleton can be seen fighting the guards and members he told to surround the shed

Following his order, the little creature ran outside like he had nothing to do anything here anymore, leaving the man, the captain, and 10 members alone.

The man then looked at the fallen guild members of the Boulders before finally looking at their captain.

“Tsk-Tsk-Tsk CAPTAIN, CAPTAIN!! We were ambushed. Someone stabbed me and killed my partner too.”

“....!!”

The captain, who first couldn’t get a grasp at what the hell the man was doing then realized.

“Have your eyes opened by now?”

Mrit, who stood in front of the captain acted in the way he acted just some minutes ago with a grin on his face. The captain, looking at the acting of Mrit realized who the person in front of him is.

“... Y-You!! B-But how?”

Shocked, he looked at Mrit and asked him. He tried to ask him as to how he is standing in front of him when he suffered that grave injury, but Mrit already knew what the man was thinking.

“You might be thinking about how I am here with that big wound on my abdomen before, right?”

Walking near the captain, Mrit, with a grin, crouched and looked into the eyes of the captain. Then, from one of the storage rings, he took out a dagger and slowly dangled it in front of the captain.

“Do you know what killed your guards?”

“....”

The captain didn’t answer as he already got the gist of what really transpired here. His eyes, now full of hostility, looked back at Mrit, but Mrit just smirked.

“Hahaha... Don’t be on guard that much. I know you already got the gist of what really happened here. Even so, aren’t you curious? That big of a wound got healed in that instant, don’t you find it shocking?”

Mrit’s words were correct. From the moment he got to know the identity of Mrit, the captain was more than curious.

It shocked him as he looked at the person in front of him who had a mortal wound on his abdomen walking and standing properly in front of him like the wound was never been there in the first place.

He wanted to ask how that wound disappeared but without him even asking, Mrit spoke for him or more like showed it to him.

Slash!

With the dagger, he cut his hand. The cut was deep as blood slowly gushed out and dripped profusely from Mrit’s palm.

“Now, let the magic unfold. Sun’s embrace!”

“!!”

Out of nowhere, a bright aura enveloped Mrit’s hand. The cut glowed brightly and in an instant, it disappeared, leaving only the trace of the blood behind.

“H-How?”

While Mrit looked at the captain with a mischievous gaze, it left the captain speechless. He couldn’t utter a word after looking at the miracle that had happened in front of him.

“Surprised? Now, now, don’t try to exagg-”

“H-How c-can you use divine light?”

“?”

The captain interrupted Mrit as he tried to flatter himself.

“What are you talking about?”

While Mrit expected some sort of shock from the captain, it was new for him to hear about this divine light.

“T-That thing you did. That was the divine light of goddess, right?”

“Divine light?”

The word divine light intrigued him. On earth, he just heard that the Sword of Salvation has the ability to emit light that can affect the devils.

After looking at the miracle of the devils backing and running away from the light, people started to call it divine light or holy light.

‘I have experienced the power of the sword of salvation at my last moments, with those shards flashing the light straight onto my face, but that was not comparable to the Sun’s Embrace.’

Sun’s Embrace can be classified as a simple buff spell, but the light of the Sword of Salvation was greater than the Sun’s Embrace.

Wanting to know more about the divine light, this man is talking about, Mrit, who got intrigued, tried to ask the man more about the divine light.

“Can you expl-”

“Die!!”

Behind him, one the member who got blasted away stood up and tried to attack Mrit with a sword.

“Tch.”

Mrit timely dodged the attack as he rolled sideways, dodging the subsequent attacks too.

Looking up, he found that the other people who were lying down had now surrounded their captain with their swords pointing at Mrit.

“Talk about annoyance. I was about to get some more information through that man, but all of you just have to interrupt me.”

Standing up, Mrit looked at the men, pointing their blades at him. Annoyance was clear in his eyes as he stared at them with disgust.

“Captain, stay behind us. We will handle him.”

“Right. Captain, prepare some magic in the meantime. We will distract him.”

The men protected their captain and stood like a wall. Their plan was simple. Since their captain is a mage, they want him to cast some spells with them covering him. But they had the biggest misfortune of their life today by having Mrit as their opponent.

“Hahaha!!! Do you all think doing that will let you have an upper hand on me? Then let me tell you that this foolish thinking will become your bane.”

Mrit then made a gesture with his fingers and then, behind the captain, a figure rose from his shadows.

“Crackle!”

“!!”

Slash!
