After I finished the classes it was midday and I wanted to test out a little project that had been worked on for a couple nights. One of the most important things of all for any civilization was a safe and clean supply of water, something the villages in the area had due to the glacial fed rivers that flowed down from the Henjuk Mountains. However like all cultures of their low tech level they had to walk to the rivers and manually collect water and carry it back to their homes and such. They had methods of irrigation for the crop fields by rerouting the water in small channels but of course you couldn't drink out of those. My plan was to create a waterwheel and plumbing system for the village of Doovlin as an experiment. If successful it could be applied elsewhere as well. I remembered vaguely how deep groudwater was plumbed near the water table for large cities, but such an undertaking was impossible at the moment. An older system like simple stone pipes or aqueducts would be more reasonable, though I planning to use this waterwheel to turn the mechanism for a simple pump if I could. Now they already had one waterwheel at the logging facility but this application would be brand new to them.
With a quick walk into the forest I arrived to the location on the mountain that I had setup a goddess workshop of sorts. Due to not having tools that really fit me at my massive size I relied on magic to manipulate whatever I was working on. It was a major cheat I know, but there wasn't any other choice. The fall had made most of the leaves from the trees scatter all over the entire area which was a great annoyance. The makeshift broom I had made to sweep them away was a simple pine tree that had been uprooted and turned upside down. Quickly I grabbed the pine and after a bit of sweeping the completed waterwheel was cleared of debris.
It was about thirty feet in diameter made of two pine trees that I had forced to grow by magic into a circular shape with other straight logs as the spokes. Each of the buckets was just half of a pine tree scooped out and put across the outside ring. All of the attachments were made using drilled holes and wooden pegs. Obviously such a wheel was crude and inelegant but it would serve its purpose. Now because at some of the villagers knew how to make a waterwheel already I was only going to need to teach them the rest of the water transportation system construction. That would be at a later date however and this wheel was made without their intervention because I wanted it to be a big surprise. There were also several pipes made of stone that I had crafted using magic from the nearby stone cliffs. They had been all gathered up in a pile and tied together with large thick ropes made of hundreds of tiny vines.
"Well time to get this thing started."
Slowly I crouched down and gathered the large collection of pipes into my arms like one would carry firewood. They were actually pretty heavy as one would imagine hundreds of tons of stone to be. Thankfully it was possible for me to carry them despite their weight. Not all of them at once however. With a grunt I stood back up with the first of two loads of pipes and walked back to the village and the Gero River which was the one to the south of the village. It took over fifteen minutes and I had to be extra careful where I was stepping lest my footing cause me to fall.
Once the village came into view there was even more reason to be careful because these pipes were a hundred feet long and their weight would cause horrific damage to the village if they were dropped, much less the effects on a human if it landed on them. Because of this I was taking a walk around the outskirts of the village. Several people stopped me to ask me what I was doing. My reply was that it was a project and a surprise which made them leave me alone for the moment.
It was just a few dozen more steps to the Gero River where the whole thing was being setup. Waiting for me there were Miya, Jackson, and Jenson. All of whom were present out of nessacity of their positions in the village. The first as my high priestess was necessarily present, the second had the position of village mayor of sorts, and the last being the head of industry if you could call it for the villagers as he owned the biggest operation.
"Goddess what in the world are those?" Jenson asked in bewilderment as he pointed up at the pipes.
"Just some pipes" I replied with a grunt. "Now stay where you are I'm putting them down ok?"
With a careful look around I lowered myself down and let the pipes roll out of my arms onto the ground near the treeline. There was a rumbling as the massively heavy tubes thumped onto the dirt. The three tiny humans immediately walked over and began examining them. I stood up and took a deep breath, then brushed the stone dust off my arms.
Miya had run to one end of the pipes and was looking through them. "Wow! You can see all the way to the other end!" She exclaimed in excitement. "Helloooooo!" Her shout echoed through the long cylinder causing her to jump in joy. "Your voice travels through the whole thing!"
"Be careful now!" I instructed. "These are only held together with rope so don't stand too close ok?"
The old man Jackson was standing back with his arms crossed while the others looked around. He was clearly thinking about what they were going to be used for. "These things are quite massive goddess. What do they have to do with the river though? Will they be used to direct the river somehow?"
"Yeah I figured something like that" Jenson said. "We use smaller logs for transporting small amounts of water around at the lumbermill."
Their quickness to pickup on their purpose brought a small smile to my face. "That's right. You'll see in a moment." I bent down and reached out to remove the ropes. "Stand back now."
The three jogged out of my way, figuring that if they put themselves behind my massive crouched frame they were in a safe area. After they had moved I snapped the ropes with a twist from my fingers and the pipes all tumbled down so they were laying next to each other. The sound was probably very loud for them as Miya covered her ears.
"Now watch this." I said plainly.
Carefully I picked up the front pipe with both hands and then stood back up. It took only a couple steps to get to the river where I crouched down again. Once ready I took a glance under my arm to see what the three were doing. All of them were watching me intently and none of them were prepared for what was about to happen next. Once the end of the pipe was dipped into the water it began flowing up and out of other end as dictated by physics. Quickly I put the pipe down on the riverbank and stood up, almost jumping over to grab a second pipe and bringing it over to the end of the first that was on land.

"What's the second one for goddess Jenna?" Miya asked curious.
I just smiled and lowered the second pipe down and placed it on the ground at a sharp angle compared to the first, then I pulled a large stone out of my pocked and used my magic to mold it like dough into the shape of a pipe joint. Of course the humans would have to do this the hard way but for the sake of a prototype and demonstration I was cheating. With a shift movement I plugged the ends of both pipes into the joint cutting off the flow of water, at least for the moment. Several seconds later the water began spilling out of the second pipe a full two hundred feet away from the river. Thus the first instance of plumbing this world had even seen was born. Well most likely anyway.
There were gasps from the three onlookers as they each understood the implications of these pipes and their possible implementation. The two men were left speechless and could only stand there making choking noises with their mouths agape. Miya was the first to say anything.
"Goddess this is amazing!" Miya exclaimed as she ran past my feet towards the end of the second pipe. "Look how far the water is going!"
Seeing her reaction filled my heart with joy and I stood up with a knowing smirk on my face. As the other two stumbled towards the new marvel I crossed my arms and took one booming strep back to give them all the space they needed to observe.
"This is called a pipeline" I said going into my explaining mode. "Its life changing technology as I'm sure you're aware. Obviously you humans won't be able to make pipes this big by yourselves without a lot of hard work, but I'll be helping get the system for Doovlin setup myself so that won't be an issue."
Jackson was standing at the opening with the water flow and then walked back and around to look at the river. "Wh-Where are you planning to take the water Great Goddess?"
"Oh there's going to be a pipeline going straight from the river to the middle of the village. After that getting it to individual houses can be planned out. Getting a single central area where anyone can come collect fresh water is the first priority though."
"Into peoples houses?" Jenson asked in shock. "D-Do you have any idea how this will-"
I cut him off mid sentence. "Of course I do idiot. Why do you think I'm setting this whole thing up? This is going to completely revolutionize how the people of Doovlin live their lives. That's the point. This is called progress."
Jenson caught some condescending tone in my voice and went quiet. He was the one that annoyed me the most after all and I sort of went hard on him without realizing, though apologizing right now wouldn't befit my role as a goddess.
Jackson was standing there and rubbing his chin deep in thought. He was muttering things here and there under his breath so I left him to his thoughts.
"Goddess Jenna!" Miya said excitedly. She had run up in front of my feet unafraid. "How will the water make it all the way to the village though? Its so far away and its not downhill."
With a smile and a chuckle I pull my book out of its pocket dimension. "I'm glad you asked Miya!"
The book begins floating in the air attached to its ribbon tether and opens up. I take another step back and grab it out of the air, holding it facing downwards for all of them see. Being the size of a billboard made it easy for them to see all the details. Images began appearing on the pages to illustrate as I explained.
A diagram appeared of the river and the piping leading all the way to the village as I spoke. Water could be seen entering at the river and spilling out into a large collection pond at the village center.
"As you can see the water flows from the river the quarter mile to the middle of the village where it collects. How that will be setup doesn't matter for the moment."
The image went back to the river where a large waterwheel was setup with a building next to it that attached to the side and had the first pipe coming out of it.
"What's that goddess?" Miya asked pointing.
"This is called a pumphouse" I said. "Here it'll change so you can see inside."
As I spoke the picture changed so that the inside of the building was visible. There were two huge hammers inside with large flat bottoms inside two tanks. The waterwheel turned and caused the hammers to rise and fall, pulling water up into one tank and allowed it to spill into the second tank. The second hammer then pressed the water down and into the pipe.
"You see here how the wheel turns these arms here, making these two hammers rise and fall. The motion causes suction that pulls water up out of the river." I continue, pointing with my finger. "These two tanks allow the water to flow from this side to this side. The second hammer then presses the water down and builds up pressure. This pressure forces the water to flow much faster and further than it would normally. Across distance or even uphill!"
To demonstrate I stepped towards the end of the pipe that was currently spilling out and crouched down. The book returned to floating as I filled my hands with water and stood up again. I cupped them and pressed them together causing the water to squirt out.
"See? Like with my hands but going downward with the pipe as the only escape route." I then pointed to the village across the trees. "The pump will force the water all the way to the village. Pretty neat huh?"
There was a minute or so as they all absorbed and thought about it all. It was quite revolutionary of course and none of them had ever imagined such a thing before.
Jenson was the first to speak again. "It all seems quite miraculous yet you explain it and demonstrate it as if it could all be built by human hands." He pointed to the book and its illustration.
"Mhm mhm" I say nodding knowingly. "All of this can be built by humans of course! Not easily I suppose." I said looking to the side it thought. "As simple as this system is building it on a large scale is quite the industrial project. We haven't even gotten into water treatment or filtration yet. But I figured just boiling the water would work for now."
"Water treatment?" Miya asked.
I let out a sigh. "Well its cleaning the water to make it safer to drink and getting all the junk out of it. You guys boil it for now and on this scale it involves a bit more than just that."
"It all sounds very complicated and difficult" Jackson said crossing his arms. "I have faith that you will guide us on this journey Goddess Jenna, and as you said merely having the water flow to the village is more than enough to start." He tapped his hands on his arms. "I'm sure if you provided us with plans on how to make adjustments to this system we could figure it out on our own. You seem to want us humans to advance on our own merits."
"Yes Mr Jackson" I replied. "I kinda have to do the initial setup myself as winter is approaching quickly. Oh and don't worry about the water freezing, flowing water doesn't freeze. I'm sure you already knew that though."
"Of course goddess." Jackson replied. "Thank you for your faith in us."
With the explanation out of the way I clapped my hands together in excitement. It was perhaps a bit loud as the three below covered their ears from the sound. I was just so pumped up to get this pipeline built, not only because it was fun to work on projects but also because of all the happiness it would bring to the villagers.
"Oops sorry" I apologized weakly. I then perked up again and put my hands on my hips. "Well I'll have to go collect the rest of the materials for this thing. Ya'll are free to watch if you want but just make sure to stay out of my way while I'm working alright? We don't want any on the job accidents."
There was a chorus of acknowledgments from the three. It was probably very visible how much the excitement and joy was flowing from my heart as I was pretty bad at hiding my emotions. With all the explaining and planning out of the way I was now left with the work itself. The whole thing would probably take less than a day, maybe two, as projects like this always hit snags and setbacks that had to be corrected with extra work. There was nothing but good vibes for me though as I began to apply myself to the work. The first step was to go and collect the rest of the supplies from the mountain which I immediately set out to do.
