Chapter 4: The Hunt

[Dad]  “Wake up beautiful~”

[Me]  “Mnn… noooo”

[Dad]  “Come on Ivy, if you stay in bed too long your mother will get mad.”

[Me]  “…evil”

[Mom]  “Did I just hear something?”

[Me]  “N-no mother!!!”

How did she get up here so quickly?!  Does she have some skill to teleport?  …Or mabey I was too focused on Dad…

  +5 intelligence

No, seriously I am gaining stats too quickly…  *Sigh*  I should just focus on getting up…  I roll out of bed and get dressed.  I put on clothing that would be great for training in and take a small sword out from underneath my bed.  Why was there a sword underneath my bed?  Well… I had to hide it from my over protective mother after getting it from Dad’s old things.

I run to the kitchen and sit at the table.  Mom smiles at us and serves Dad and I our food.  We all eat and it was oddly silent, making the atmosphere awkward.

[Dad]  *Ahem*  “…so your mother and I have been talking and we have decided that once you turn ten you should go to Starlight Academy.”

[Me]  “…”

What?

[Mom]  “It would be best for your future after all…”

You are aware that I only just turned five right?  Also, THIS WILL NOT WORK WITH MY LUCK!!!

[Dad]  “So you have five years to prepare for the entrance exam.”

[Mom]  “Just don’t push yourself, okay?”

[Me]  “Ah… yes.  Um, Mom is it okay if I go out and practice?”

[Mom]  “Sure, here take this protective charm with you.”

[Me]  “Alright…”

[Mom]  “Oh, and take this good luck bracelet with you.”

I could actually benefit from this!  I seem to be strangely lucky right now!!!  Hmm… maybe my bad luck is taking a break?  Oh well… I start walking to the door when suddenly Mom calls out to me.

[Mom]  “Is that a sword I see on you?”

..Never mind, my luck (Or rather lack of) is back.

[Me]  “Yes”

[Mom]  “And where did you get that?”

I look around nervously when I suddenly form a plan.  Sorry Dad…

[Me]  “From Dad.”

Dad looks at me with a deer-in-headlights look and seems to be covered in cold sweat… wow, he seems really scared.  Sorry once again.

[Mom]  “…Really now…”

Mom’s head slowly turns Dad’s direction and I take the chance to run out the back door into the forest.  Dad will be fine right?  Right?!

I stop running at a clearing and sit down on a rock.  I need to take a look at my stats before I begin my hunt.

Besides the fact that my luck still seems broken even with my bracelet it seems fine.  Wait… now it shows my level.  Did the system forget to include it before?  What are the chances of… oh right, my luck practically guaranties these things.  Well, let’s go hunting!

First thing I come across is a boar.  It is low leveled, but that is exactly what I need right now.  I sneak up to it and right as I was closing in an extremely cliché moment happened.  I stepped on a stick, which made a *Crack* noise rumble through this location.  …Crud.

The boar looks towards my location and snorts.  It then starts to move its back leg get like a bull would.  My eyes open wide and I begin running to the side and the boar runs after me.

[Me]  “Noooo!  Can’t you just leave me alone!!!”

That is exactly when I trip and fall over a small pebble.  Why am I so unlucky?!  No, better yet… where did that pebble come from anyway?!  The boar, already running full speed my way, could not slow down and as such full down… on top of me.

  - 20 health

Get off!!!  You weigh so such you made me loss 40% of my health!  I start pushing the boar off me with my sword.  After it was off it was covered in many wounds if which was inflicted as I was pushing it off me with my sword.  After that I finish it off and a new window fills my vision.

  Level up (x50)

[Me]  “…”

There is no way a low level boar is supposed to give me that much levels.  Zues… what did you do?!

New skill gained!  Skill: Sword Mastery (passive)

Due to practicing with a sword you have gained this skill.  Please use this instead of just barbarically stabbing the poor thing to death next time…

Sword Mastery has been set to max!

… I feel like I was being spied on by these boxes…

Now that I think about it, why didn’t my protective charm work?  Could it be a defect?  …Ah, its best not to question things right now.  It would probably just make me more confused.

I shake of the confusion and begin to walk around in order to find more prey.  As I am walking I find a cave.  Maybe there are some monsters in here?  I walk in and… see nothing.  The cave extends to the left.  I walk as silently as I could and find something that should only be found in fantasies… oh wait….  Anyway, what I was seeing was a black wolf that was curled up and sleeping.  It was so adorable that I had an urge to pet it.  The only thing holding me back was the words floating above its head.

  Shadow Wolf  (Level 538)

…Yeah.  But other than that it was so adorable.  I want to take it home with me sooooo badly.  I just sat there and watched it for a while.  It took deep, soft breaths and its chest rose and fell in a pattern.  So cute!  As I was watching I noticed that the sun was starting to go down.  My cramped legs told me that I have been watching this walk for a long while, so I decided to get back home.

As I began to stand I slipped on another pebble.  That same pebble then flew upwards and hit a stone spike that happened to be positioned right above the wolf.  That same spike then decided to fall on the adorable fluffiness underneath it.

[Me]  “Nooooo!”

The cute little wolf was then hit through the chest and blood sprayed the cave.  Its eyes went wide for a second before letting out a whine and falling limp.  I felt my cheeks get wet, and when I out my fingers to them I found that I was crying.  Such a cute little creature met such a horrible ending.

  Level up  (x1269)

Shut up box!  This cute little thing was just murdered.  Nothing could matter anymore…

…did I just level up 1269 times?  How does something give me 1269 levels while only being level 538?  *Sigh*  I am sorry Shadow, however I will treasure the levels that you gave me with all my heart.  I really am sorry…

When I arrive home I go through the back door and Mom greets me.

[Mom]  “Hey sweetie, how was practice?”

[Me]  “It was fine.  Oh Mom, so know what a Shadow Wolf is?”

[Mom]  “Actually I do.  If you ever see one get far, far away.  Those things are extremely aggressive and is one of the few demonic beasts out there that actually kill humanoids for sport.”

[Me]  “A-alright”

I eat diner with the family and go to my room.  Shadow wasn’t aggressive was she?  Then again, I only saw her sleeping… hmm.  *Sigh*

[Me]  “Open status!”

…I feel like a cheat.  Also, what is up with the ominous 6’s?  That is a little creepy.  Hmm?  The system updated again?  Luck seems the same, minus the fact that instead of 1 it shows a 0.  Charm though… I think it just gave up on charm.  My dark element seems to have increased, probably because of the Shadow Wolf I killed.  My earth element went up an entire 50%, most likely because I guess it counted the large spike that gained me 1269 levels, even though it was not my fault.

*Yawn*  Whatever… I’m tired, let’s just hope tomorrow is not as crazy.
