Chapter 18: The Normality Council

Chapter 18: The Normality Council

----------Ivy’s POV-----------

…what is going on right now?  I finally get home from a certain event consisting of a pebble and a misplaced cure, and what I see is some random guy kneeling before me.  His eyes were wide open, like a dead fish’s eyes, and his lower jaw seemed a little too drawn to gravity.  The most surprising part of this is not that he is kneeling, no; it is the fact that there is a red pin-point thing over his head.  It almost looks like the thing used back on Earth to mark places on a map.

W-what on earth is that thing hovering over his head?  It’s just floating there… I wonder if I can touch it.  Ah!  But what if the pin-thingy is important to him and he doesn’t want me to touch it?  But it resembles a big red button… I really want to press it.

No…no, I must have self-constraint.  I must not touch it… must not… can’t… but… maybe if I asked for permission?  Would that even be considered acceptable?  What if others can’t see it?  Perhaps the earlier event created a large shock to my system, causing me to see things that aren’t really there…

It’s still hovering.  It’s practically begging me to touch it…

But, what if it’s against some ‘girl moral code’?  I did hear that women think differently from men… so what if I reveal that I am not exactly a ‘girl’ in soul.  Well, considering no one has noticed yet, it should be fine.  Probably.

Oh… my finger went through.  It turns out that the pin-point thingy was not actually there.

Warning:  This individual has been blacklisted by the Church of Misfortune.

This individual does not have access to 20% of his power.  If you kill this individual, your power will increase 5% (plus some other crazy bonus that Zeus put on you.  Seriously, did you ever consider you are a little overpowered?)

…It turns out the pin-point thingy was to warn me he was blacklisted.  Hmm… is says he was blacklisted by the Church of Misfortune… for some reason that seems familiar…

…Wait, aren’t I the supposed Goddess of Misfortune?  That would make the people who (for some reason) follow me members of the Church of Misfortune.  Furthermore, taking away the person’s power and giving people an incentive to kill is a little over the top, yeah?

[Malum]  “Ivy-sama, it seems a leech has arrived…”

[Me]  “…He actually seems to be a devil.”

[Malum]  “…”

[Me]  “So, what’s your name?”

[Strange Devil]  “Ah!  Yes!  Umm… the name is Gekido, nice to meet you. ”

[Me]  “I couldn’t quite catch your name…”

[Malum]  “Answer, you flea!”

Malum, why oh why must you call others such names?  Don’t you think it is a little rude?  No one likes being called that, you know?  You should be friendlier or else you will be hated, you know?

[Strange Devil]  “…Gekido”

[Me]  “Nice to meet you, Gekido!  So, if you don’t mind me asking, why are you blacklisted?”

[Gekido]  “Err… well; I made the Church of Misfortune a little angry…”

[Me]  “How so?”

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.

[Gekido]  “I may have broken 27 of their laws…”

[Me]  “Ehh?!   How did you manage to do that?!”

That’s not a little, you know?  27 is actually a large number if it concerns how many laws you broke.  Furthermore, when did the church have more than 27 laws?  It was just developed a few years ago…

[Gekido]  “Imadeamistakeandinsultedyou,IAMSOSORRY!!!!”  (I made a mistake and insulted you, I AM SO SORRY!!!)

[Me]  “…what?”

[Malum]  *crack* *crack* “I believe” *crack* “he said that he insulted” *crack* “you, Ivy-sama.” *crack*

Malum, why are you cracking your knuckles while speaking?  It’s distracting, you know?  In addition to that, it is supposed to be really bad for you…

Why would insulting me break 27 laws anyway?  Is it because I am considered a goddess?  Even then, couldn’t they just put, ‘Do not insult a goddess’?  That would be so much more simple…

*BOOM!!!*

[Me]  “MALUM!  Why are you beating up Gekido?!”

[Malum]  “HE DARED TO INSULT IVY-SAMA!!!”

[Me]  “Stop it!  No!  Don’t stab his neck!  Nor his gut!  Hey, get that dagger out of his chest!”

[Malum]  “Ivy-sama, you are truly too kind, even to this worm who dared to insult you…”

[Me]  “Just… please stop killing him.  Anyway, Gekido, why are you here?”

[Gekido]  *Cough* “I am here because...” *Spurt* “…your mother found me and asked me to work for you.”  *Cough* *Spurt* *Cough* *Cough*

[Me]  “Are you okay…?”

[Gekido]  “Yeah… just have to wait” *Cough* “for my guts and organs regenerate.”

[Me]  “Malum, just how much damage did you do?!”

[Malum]  “Not enough… only a few organs and intestines.”

That seems like a little too much to me...

[Me]  “So, Mom called you over?”

[Gekido]  “Yes, Ivy-sama”  *Cough*

[Mom]  “What’s going on here?  Oh!  Gekido!  It’s a pleasure to finally see you here!  Unfortunately, you missed the beginning of the gathering.”

[Me]  “Gathering?”

[Mom]  “Luckily, my parents and parent-in-laws already began the gathering without you.  You will have to catch up.”

[Me]  “Excuses me, but who is gathering?”

[Mom]  “Ivy, this is Gekido.  He will be your strategist.”

[Me]  “Strategist?   For what?  In addition to that, what gathering is taking place?”

[Mom]  “He is the strategist for your army of course!”

[Me]  “Army?!  Also, WHAT IS THE GATHERING?!”

[Mom]  “The Goddess of Misfortune needs an army so that she can take over the world.”

[Me]  “But… isn’t it fine to be normal?  I just want to be normal…”

Mom looked at me with sympathizing eyes and looked over at Malum and Gekido.  She nodded once towards their direction and looked back at me.

[Mom]  “That is an excellent idea.  Do whatever you think is best, alright sweetheart?”

[Me]  “Ehh?  Ah, yes… thanks?”

I didn’t expect that to work out as well as it did.  After all, with my luck, I half-expected them to continue with the whole army plan.  Well… I guess it is important to be lucky at times too.

[Mom]  “Oh, and Ivy?”

[Me]  “Yes?”

[Mom]  “Have you thought of what you want for your birthday?  It is in a few days and you have yet to tell me what you want.”

[Me]  “Umm… Can I think about it for a little longer?”

[Mom]  “Don’t rush yourself too much. “

[Me]  “Thanks!  I will be off practicing!”

I can’t wait!  Once I turn 10, though I’m only 8 right now, I will be able to attend the school brother is attending.  In a few days, I will be able to say that it is only a year away.  Let’s just stronger!  Summon Beings of Misfortune!

---------- Carla’s POV----------

I hear sounds of fighting and head outside.  Once I arrive I see Gekido, holder of Wrath, currently spewing out blood from about five major wounds and his mouth.  I was about to get at Malum for attacking a devil, a noble one at that, until I noticed a certain marker above Gekido’s head.  A red marker.  This marks him as someone who was blacklisted by the religion that owns this land, which would be the Misfortune Religion.

What in Hades name did Gekido do to get blacklisted by the Church of Misfortune?  Apparently, it was bad enough to get properly punished by Malum… hmm…

Though, with Gekido’s personality, I did not foresee this event.  He is normally cautious and careful, so for him to get blacklisted would mean he messed up.  I should personally punish him later in order to make sure he is not a hindrance to my daughter.

The gathering of Beings of Misfortunes and other demons had already commenced, and Gekido was supposed to help out with it.  If it weren’t for the help of my parents and my husband’s parents, we would have been in a tight spot.  Thankfully it is proceeding smoothly and we have created an army of about 10,000.  About 4,500 of that army are Beings of Misfortunes that had wandered into the forest while my daughter was training or from the previous pebble event.

When I mentioned that Gekido was to be Ivy’s strategist for her army, she got mad.  I was so confused at first as to why she was mad, but, as she continued talking, it became apparent.  We cannot let the other gods and goddesses know what we are up to.  If they knew we were planning to kick all other religions off the face of Aredia, then they would surely intervene.  To prevent this, we need to make the appearance of being normal.  We will just be a ‘normal’ village and Ivy will be just a ‘normal’ village goddess.

I shared a nod with Malum and Gekido to make sure they knew what I was thinking, and continued conversing with Ivy.  After Ivy went to train I immediately started talking to the boys.

[Me]  “We need to become the perfection of ‘normal’.  This is of the utmost importance.”

[Malum]  “Indeed it is.  I can’t believe that none of us ever considered this fact!  All Hail Goddess Ivy-sama!”

[Gekido]  “No wonder you people had to call over a strategist.  We need to immediately put together a ‘Normality Council!”

[Me]  “You are correct.   I will call together the important figures in the army and village to form this council.  It should meet every Monday.”

[Gekido]  “Thank you, Carla.  I will start drawing plans to present to the Council.”

[Malum]  “Carla, I need to speak to you.  I know a variety of good future council members from my previous council.  Would you like to hear about them?”

[Me]  “Yes I would.  Let us talk in more detail in the drawing room.”

---------- 3rd Persons POV ----------

The very next morning the ‘Normality Council’ was put into effect.  Ivy, having no knowledge of this, continued on normally that day.  It wasn’t until later that day that she remembered that she forgot to get the answer to what the gathering was.  Alas, people always wish for a medicine for regret, yet none actually receive it.  Meanwhile, the capital was becoming quite famous for its association with the Church of Misfortune, but that is for Ivy to find out a later date.
